Interview With Angelina J. Windsor

By Cynthia Sax on August 26, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with Angelina J. Windsor for a short interview. Angelina J. Windsor’s latest release is Seventh Son, a Paranormal with werewolves!

Cynthia Sax: What makes Lord Bram Snowdon so freakin’ sexy?

Angelina J. Windsor: Oh Boy! He’s a huge, alpha male who can turn into a werewolf at will! Sexy, hot and passionate is our Lord Snowdon. The first of the Dragonstone Clan, he’s the ultimate tortured soul. Cursed by his wife, he roams the woods feeling too much a monster to deserve to be the liege of his clan. Until that is, one day, he runs into his equal, a mate (Isobelle, my favorite heroine!) who makes it her life’s mission to lead him back to his true calling. Lord Snowdon is cultured and wild, a deadly combination, eh! I can’t but think of him and I get wound up and feeling fine…

Cynthia Sax: What do you find especially exciting about Seventh Son?

Angelina J. Windsor: Oh my, all of it does, you have to have a passion for your stories to stay with them for weeks, if not months, on end. But I would imagine the fact that it is set during the time of the Arthurian Legends, a thousand plus years ago, in the fabled Isle of Albion, drew me the most. Such a time and setting allows for so much passion and excitement. Not to mention the evocative language possible. The story of Bram and Isobelle, two memorable characters I loved working with, is a dark gothic tale with time spent on the windswept moors, like so many of the books I enjoyed growing up. Side note: I loved to read then and I love to read just as much now! Think of Heathcliff and Cathy. Except living in this time and place looking back has many advantages like being able to write about it more explicitly which adds a whole other layer of tension and intensity. If you know what I mean, nudge-nudge wink-wink!!!

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from Seventh Son?

Angelina J. Windsor: That’s an easy one! It’s a scene from my heroine, Isobelle’s journey. I had to let myself fall into what this experience would feel like, the coming back from true unconsciousness. And of course my editor adding a happy face to this line made my day and told me it was all I had hoped it would be. Thanks Rebecca! Here’s the line:
“I came to consciousness slowly, the land of dreams and the land of the living twisted together giving me no purchase to find the opening to my own life, much like a swimmer stuck under the frozen ice with no borehole.”
*This is the kind of ancient language structure I enjoyed creating.

Cynthia Sax: How does Seventh Son start?

Angelina J. Windsor:
Ah, my heroine, Isobelle, is at her wits end having been cast out of hearth and home. She’s desperate to leave the world that has turned its back on her and looks to end it all on a high bridge. As she is about to jump into the cold, rushing waters below where death awaits she is accosted by Bram looking to save her. Her rescue fires her passions for this man who has risked much and she falls into his arms without delay. They rut right there on the bridge, for she has discovered she is gloriously happy to be alive and in the arms of this warm, enticing stranger. She feels little shame for accepting his embraces. But will that be enough for her to become a part of his life as she so desperately wants? Or will the beast inside him drive her away?

Cynthia Sax: What creates problems between Isobelle and Bram?

Angelina J. Windsor:
Again, oh boy! The fact that our heroine is attracted to the female in the story and allows her to be overly familiar if you get what I mean causes all sort of grief! It was my first f/f scene and my editor agreed it was scorching hot. I think I’d better have a cold shower.

Okay, I’m back. Yes, conflict drives stories. And Isobelle’s betrayal has dire consequences. She has much to atone for in proving her love for Bram and she suffers greatly.

Thank you, Angelina J. Windsor, for joining us today!

Interview With Allie Ritch

By Cynthia Sax on January 16, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with Allie Ritch for a short interview. Allie Ritch’s latest release is Vampire Territory 1: Drinking Partners, a Paranormal featuring sexy vampires.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Lucas so deliciously lickable?

Allie Ritch: Lucas Thane is a master vampire who wears power like a second skin. He’s ruthless and cunning, but not without honor, and he has picked up some serious skills in the bedroom over the decades. Lucas is also devilishly handsome with raven hair and midnight-blue eyes. The woman in Alex appreciates when he’s tender or protective, while the vampire in her is attracted to his strength and cunning.

Cynthia Sax: What excites you about Drinking Partners?

Allie Ritch: I had so much fun writing this book. For starters, I’ve been a fan of vampire romance for as long as I can remember, so I was super excited to write a novel in this genre. I made sure each of the characters is his/her own individual, there’s a ton of action (sword fights, gun play, explosions), and the love scenes are scorching hot. I feel like the urban setting gives this book an edge, while creating an alternative history gave me room to play. There was no part of this book I didn’t enjoy writing, and I hope readers love it as much as I do.

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from Drinking Partners?

Allie Ritch: “I love you enough to kill for you, to lay waste to armies, and yes, to die for you. Well, after I take out your enemies, of course.” This line is just so Lucas. He’s fierce, loving, and lethal, and he has a dark sense of humor.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Drinking Partners set?

Allie Ritch:
This story is set in the eastern United States, but with an alternate history. Vampires have been in the New World for centuries, and many have been terrorizing the humans all that time. Travel is strictly controlled so that the humans can’t all flee the area, and there are only a few vampire-free states in the country. Within this setting, areas like the Atlanta Underground and other recognizable locations take on a whole new significance. Because Lucas and Alex are each in charge of large territories, I was able to take them to multiple cities, including Raleigh, Asheville, Charlotte, and Columbia, to name only a few. I think having a range instead of a single, static location makes the book more exciting.

Thank you, Allie Ritch, for joining us today!

Being the master vampire for the Mid-Atlantic Territory is a tough job. Between the Human Rebellion trying to kill him with poisonous suicide donors and snobby born vampires bucking his authority, Lucas Thane has his hands full. What he needs is a regular drinking partner to feed from and a bigger power block. He finds both in the form of Alexandra Gage, the master of the territory south of his.

Alex could use a little help herself, but she has no intention of letting Lucas take over. Turned into a vampire against her will, she has had enough control taken from her. She’ll never let Lucas usurp her right to rule, but will she let him steal her heart? Passion ignites between them, and it’s amazing what vampire bodies can do

Interview With Kayden Claremont

By Cynthia Sax on November 28, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Kayden Claremont for a short interview. Kayden Claremont’s latest release is Hell’s Bounty, an Urban Paranormal Erotica.

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from Hell’s Bounty?

Kayden Claremont: Marcus pointed to the file he held in his hand as he cleared his throat. “Nothing like a stiff to make Saturday night special.”
Raven watched the dark humor shining in his angelic eyes, and her clit stiffened. “That’s what I always say.”

Why do I love this so much, well it shows how playful Marcus is with his sexual innuendos. He is such a sexual being and it shows in not only his actions but in his words as well.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Hell’s Bounty?

Kayden Claremont: This is a funny story. I was sitting in a coffee short working on a romantic suspense story when two men stat down beside me. They were talking about how their wives such the life out of them and they were trying to outdo one another so the stories became interesting. Before I know what had happened I had a scene where the character literally sucked the life out of a sleazy politician.

Years later I was in a critique meeting and we were talking about the weirdest scene we’ve ever written. I told my friend about this scene and they both said, “That’s a succubus.” I went home and looked it up and sure enough they were right. I liked the character so much I built the book around her.

Cynthia Sax: How does Hell’s Bounty start?

Kayden Claremont: Raven is a bounty hunter collecting souls for hell. She is dressed in hooker shoes, the tight dress revealing her voluptuous body, the masses of red curls, and her ruby-red lips. She’s walks into the club and sitting at the bar drinking hemlock waiting for her prey.
A giant of a man ducked as he entered the bar, paused, took off his sunglasses, tucked them into his jacket pocket, and waited for his eyes to adjust to the dim lighting. He surveyed the bar, then decided his path. Keeping his head high and his eyes skimming the people, he avoided eye contact with everyone.
She watches him. An undeniable current of electricity pulsed through him. Stopping beside her, he dwarfed her slight stature with colossal height, muscular build that showed through the suit, and an air of confidence that made everyone in the bar notice him.
He says, “Waiting for someone special?”
She answers, “Everyone is special.”

I started the story here because I loved the sexual tension that snapped between them. These characters just came together with such a force, I just wrote down the words.

Cynthia Sax: Is Hell’s Bounty part of a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Kayden Claremont:
Hell’s Bounty is the first book in my Heaven and Hell series. After I discovered Raven’s character it just made sense to pair her up with a guy who is her opposite. They are in the next book in the series, Hell Hath No Fury and they are reunited again final book in the series Hell Bent in Leather.

Thank you, Kayden Claremont, for joining us today!

Sexy Treats – Humorous And Erotic Paranormal Romance Shorts

By Cynthia Sax on October 29, 2014

Big girls deserve Halloween treats also. Here are some paranormal erotic romance shorts (less than 20,000 words or 80 pages) that are sexy, funny AND no-calorie.

If I were to recommend one of my paranormal shorts for this Halloween, it would be Fangs In Fur. It’s about 40 pages, features a vampire heroine and a hunky wolf shifter hero, star-crossed love, and it cracks me up every time I read it.

Blurb:

I’m Helena and I’m no delicate flower, my rough touch making former paranormal lovers cry. I’m looking for someone big and strong and preferably not a wolf, especially not that alpha wolf I have stalking me.

I’m not attracted to him — no matter how wide his shoulders or how high his pain tolerance. I’m not that foolish. Lasting relationships between wolves and vampires are forbidden, and this male has the gleam of forever in his wild eyes. He is determined to make me his mate and that, I know, will break the fragile peace between our species.

There’s a thin, blood-red line between enemies and lovers. I’m about to cross it.

Claiming Her Geeks

Eve Langlais

Blurb:

How does an alpha she-wolf who can snap a man in half, learn to love and accept a pair of males who can only beat her in a game of chess?

Deena’s searched a long time for a man she can claim, but nobody’s ever stirred her interest, until Simon and Frank. The moment she meets the nerdy friends, she wants to mark them as her own, but as alpha of her pack, she can’t settle for a pair of geeks as her mates even if in the bedroom they make her submit.

At first Deena terrifies them, but as Simon and Frank get to know her, they realize that beneath the tough exterior is a woman who wants a man—or two—to take control. When it comes to fistfights, they might not have the strength to prevail, but in a battle of the mind and heart, they’ve got the smarts it takes to emerge victorious, to her screaming pleasure.

Trust fate and two men, to show this she-wolf that with a little bit of bondage, teasing and pleasure, she can claim the geeks who draw her, because after all, even a bitch can’t fight fate and her need for love.

Mina Carter

Blurb:

Eloise is a woman on a mission. She needs to find a date for the annual hospital ball, and fast.

The trouble is she’s not only man-free but, after her bastard of an ex has a nasty little curse hurled her way, no human guy will touch her with a barge-pole—not after one of her dates ends up with green acne, another with a nose like Pinocchio…the list goes on.

Out of options, Eloise ends up at the offices of the Paranormal Protection Agency. She’s not sure what to expect, but she certainly doesn’t expect Jared Stone. No one expects Stone…

What are some of your favorite humorous and erotic paranormal romance short stories?

Interview With Ashley Ladd

By Cynthia Sax on October 24, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Ashley Ladd for a short interview. Today is the release day for Ashley Ladd’s Spooky Sojourn, a MF Paranormal Erotic.

Cynthia Sax: How does Spooky Sojourn start?

Ashley Ladd: Deanna Thompson has just been hired to manage The Gilroy Resort and Hotel in Homestead, Florida and to rid it of the ghosts—or whoever is trying to make the hotel appear to be haunted—haunting it. So she talks to the assistant manager and other employees, then hires a paranormal investigator to help her get to the bottom of the problems. She’s taken aback when the man on the other end of the line has the sexiest, most exciting masculine voice she’s ever heard.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Spooky Sojourn set?

Ashley Ladd: In a haunted hotel south of Miami, Florida.

I think haunted hotels are especially exciting. In this case there are two purported ghosts haunting the hotel, one who likes to cook and throw knives around the kitchen and the other haunts the bowling alley and not only bowls but chases the employees around with pins. This has driven away many guests and also hotel personnel. However, when a romance writing convention stays at the hotel, they request a ghost tour, surprising Deanna.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Deanna and Harry perfect for each other?

Ashley Ladd: They appear to be opposites so this is a story of opposites attract. Deanna doesn’t believe in ghosts and the supernatural. In fact she thinks anybody who does is silly, even strange and immature. Meanwhile, Harry DeVeaux, the paranormal investigator she hires to disprove the ghost theory, whole-heartedly believes in ghosts. They often irritate each other even as sparks fly fast and furious.

When someone tries to kill Deanna, Harry’s protective instincts kick into full gear. He lost the first love of his life to foul play. He’s going to do everything in his power to keep Deanna safe and here with him.

Cynthia Sax: What do you love about writing paranormals?

Ashley Ladd:
Paranormal is so much fun, especially ghosts. They get to fly, float, become invisible, jump into bodies, talk through people, and do just about anything they want.

Since this release occurs right before Halloween, it’s perfect timing. The mood is set for spookiness and all kinds of paranormal fun, even in hot muggy South Florida.

Thank you, Ashley Ladd, for joining us today!

Ashley Ladd’s Website: http://www.ashleyladd.blogspot.com

*****************************************************************************

Someone’s trying to kill Deanna, but is it the ghosts she doesn’t believe in, the rich socialite who might be a murderess, or someone else with a beef against The Gilroy Hotel and Resort that Deanna has just been hired to manage? The Gilroy’s owners want the ghosts, or whoever is causing the trouble at the hotel eliminated, and they are pressuring Deanna to do the job as quickly as possible. Harry DeVeaux, paranormal investigator comes highly recommended to do the job and against Deanna’s better judgment, she hires him.

Although Deanna thinks Harry’s crazy for believing in ghosts and Harry thinks Deanna has a closed mind to the possibilities of ghosts and they highly annoy each other, sparks fly. Deanna can’t help but fantasize about Harry and inspired by a romance convention visiting her hotel, writes her fantasies in a private blog that Harry finds, hacks, and reads. Ooh la la!

Interview With Suz deMello

By Cynthia Sax on September 24, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Suz deMello for a short interview. Today we’ll be talking about Temptation in Tartan, a vampire erotic romance.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Temptation in Tartan?

Suz deMello: I wrote Temptation in Tartan due to the success of a previous short story. I sold Highland Vampire to Spice Briefs, where it did well. So I wanted to capitalize on that success by writing another vampire tale set in the Scottish Highlands, but I had a problem: HV is a contemporary, and I just couldn’t see writing futuristic Scottish vampires. So I decided to write a prequel set in the 18th century.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Temptation in Tartan set?

Suz deMello: Temptation in Tartan is set in 1747 Scotland, a few years after the disastrous defeat of the Highlanders at Culloden Moor. The aftermath of that battle saw the destruction of the clan-based way of life that had prevailed in the Highlands for centuries. The wearing of tartan and ownership of weapons of war were prohibited, and punishments severe.

Further acts against Scots called “The Clearances”—which literally cleared the land of its inhabitants, their homes and flocks, often using fire as a weapon—killed many and drove still more to overseas havens, including the USA. The Highlands have never recovered their old population level or traditional way of life.

So at that time, Scotland was not merely exciting, but threatening. The story in Temptation in Tartan is based on those historical events, most especially the arranged marriage between Kieran, Laird Kilborn, and Lydia Swann Williston, who is related to Sassenach military in charge of the Highlands. Kier knows that marrying the wealthy widow will safeguard his clan as well as provide needed resources.

One of my favorite lines from the story is based on this situation, when Kieran tells Lydia, “I betrothed with ye for yer money, but after we met, I married ye for purely carnal reasons.

Cynthia Sax: Does a character in Temptation in Tartan have a secret? What is it?

Suz deMello: LOL, Kieran and the rest of Clan Kilburn have a very big secret indeed, one that they’re trying to keep from Lady Lydia. When eavesdropping, Lydia hears a snippet that describes this secret:

“But have ye told Lady Lydia? About him, about us?”

“Are ye mad?” Kier answered the castle’s steward. “She was affrighted enough on the way here.”

“Aye, I heard aboot it. Ye doonae think she’s suspicious of a man who ripped off the head of his enemy and drank his blood?”

Kieran laughed bitterly. “At least she doesnae suspect the truth. I doubt she’s ever heard the word vampire.”

Lydia strained her ears. She thought her husband said something like “vespers,” but didn’t understand what evening prayers had to do with a secret her husband was keeping from her. Was it a Gaelic word she didn’t yet understand?

Cynthia Sax: Is Temptation in Tartan a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Suz deMello:
Yes, this book is part of a series dubbed “Highland Vampires.” Right now it consists of three novels and two short stories. I project another novel and another shortie before I’m done, and the series will trace the vampire clan from its advent to its end, some eight centuries.

Find the list of works in this series here:

She had to marry a monster…

Rumors had followed the chieftains of Clan Kilborn for centuries. Said to be descended from the Viking Berserkers, they were ferocious in battle, known for tearing off the heads of their enemies and drinking their blood.

But English noblewoman Lydia Swann Williston would marry Kieran, Laird Kilborn, to bring peace to the Kilborn lands after the horror of Culloden and the brutal pacification. A widow, she also brought needed wealth to Clan Kilborn. For her part, eighteen-year-old Lydia wanted children. With her husband killed at Culloden, she would make a new life in the Highlands.

The old chieftain of Clan Kilborn also died in battle, and she hoped that the new young Laird would lack his ancestors’ ferocity.

She was wrong.

Interview With Margaret L. Carter

By Cynthia Sax on August 20, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Margaret L. Carter for a short interview. Margaret L. Carter’s latest release is Sealing the Dark Portal, an intriguing Paranormal Romance.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Cam so freakin’ sexy?

Margaret L. Carter: Cam is a cat shapeshifter. He has three forms: Human; a tawny, longhaired domestic cat; and a large feline the size and roughly the appearance of a mountain lion. To me, shapeshifters have a numinous allure, and there’s no animal more graceful and sensuous than a cat.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Sealing the Dark Portal?

Margaret L. Carter: The original spark came from the conclusion of Stephen King’s Dark Tower saga. Near the end of the final book (spoiler), a pair of lovers who’ve been through hellish ordeals together with the hero, Roland, find themselves together in New York. The man doesn’t remember his former life in Roland’s world, and it’s implied the woman will quickly forget, too. They will have a happy life together, free of the horrible memories of the past. Suppose, I wondered, something happened to disrupt that new life? So I created a heroine in that situation; the hero, however, has a complete memory of their past together in the world they came from. Of course, the trope of magically imposed false memories has been used by many fantasy authors, but it’s that scene from THE DARK TOWER that inspired me in this particular case. I gave the terrors that haunt my characters Lovecraftian elements because I’ve had a lifelong fondness for Lovecraft-style horror (although I don’t at all share his bleak philosophy of a mindless, uncaring universe).

Cynthia Sax: Does a character in Sealing the Dark Portal have a secret?

Margaret L. Carter: Definitely! The heroine, Rina, even has a secret from herself. She was sent from her home world to ours with her authentic memories wiped and overwritten by the constructed memory of living an ordinary life in Maryland. The hero, Cam, secretly watches over her from the shadows until he’s forced to reveal himself as her bodyguard and try to awaken her true self.

Cynthia Sax: What do you love about writing paranormal romance?

Margaret L. Carter:
Although I started as an aspiring horror writer (at age 13), I soon realized that what really interested me was getting inside the mind of the “monster.” The first time I read DRACULA, I wondered how the Count felt about those events in which he was portrayed as the villain. (Fred Saberhagen answers that question in THE DRACULA TAPE, the story I always wanted to write.) One of my first attempts at fiction was a love story between a living man and a ghost. I wrote lots of vampire viewpoint fiction, with vampires as sympathetic characters. Relationships between the human and the nonhuman fascinated me. When paranormal romance became a recognized subgenre, I knew it was the niche I’d been waiting for.

Thank you, Margaret L. Carter, for joining us today!

You had me at catshifter and then again at Stephen King. (grins)

Almost nothing Rina remembers about her life is true. Rather than an ordinary librarian, she is a sorceress who fled from another world to ours when creatures from an alien dimension devastated her home and killed her family. Now they have pursued her to our world, summoned by a sorcerer who plans to open a portal and invite monstrous entities from the void between dimensions to overrun this planet. Rina’s former bodyguard, a cat shapeshifter who was once her lover and still yearns for her, helps her true memories to awaken. She must come to terms with the truth about her past so that together they can save their new home from the fate of their old one.

Interview With Heather Kirchhoff

By Cynthia Sax on August 9, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Heather Kirchhoff for a short interview. Heather Kirchhoff’s latest release is Daybreak, an paranormal.

Cynthia Sax: What excites you about Daybreak?

Heather Kirchhoff: Everything. I just love sitting down to write the story because even I don’t always know what’s going to happen. That thrills me.

Cynthia Sax: How does Daybreak start?

Heather Kirchhoff: Daybreak starts at Meagan learning more useful magic. I did this because of how Dusk ended (not going to reveal anything) but she needs to learn more then what Meagan knows already like potions. It also has her thinking of someone she truly cares about but has to pretend she doesn’t for the sake of her secret. It’s a lose-lose situation but Meagan has to learn how to deal with it. I did that because I felt like it was a good place to start and I wanted to jump into her learning more magic.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Daybreak set?

Heather Kirchhoff: I set my Magic series in Santa Monica, California because I’ve wanted to go there for awhile and I thought it’d be the perfect place to hide Meagan away at. I think it’s exciting because it’s a big city and Meagan has never lived in one before; she’s always lived in a village up until she was five then in isolation. I think it’s a different experience for her (much different).

Cynthia Sax: Does a character in Daybreak have a secret?

Heather Kirchhoff:
Yes. Meagan (the main character) is the Powerful One. She’s a very powerful witch, the most powerful of her kind, and has to hide away. She’s lived in isolation since she was five (other magic users want to capture her) until now at the age of seventeen, where she was forced to live in a big city. It’s out of her comfort zone but she has no choice.

Cynthia Sax: Is Daybreak a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Heather Kirchhoff:
Yes. I’m not sure if there will be four or five books but they’re planned out for now. Of course, I always get surprises. The next book will be published December of this year and the other two will be before May 2015.

Thank you, Heather Kirchhoff, for joining us today!

*****************************************************************************

It’s been several months since Meagan met Justin, with her secret still safely kept. Then Meagan meets Derek, a dark, mysterious boy. As she tries to sort through her emotions, her world is unexpectedly rocked when someone Meagan never suspects to see again comes back. Now she has more then just Justin and Derek to work out and she starts to realize that her life may end up changing for the worst. She now has to fight, battling between the reality and dreams, trying to figure out her next move.

Interview With Lisa Carlisle

By Cynthia Sax on July 28, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Lisa Carlisle for a short interview. Lisa Carlisle’s latest release is Dark Velvet, a sexy paranormal erotic romance.

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from Dark Velvet?

Lisa Carlisle: “I never planned on you finding out what I am.”

This is said by the sculptor Antoine. He’s attracted to the young poet Savannah and plans to seduce her while she’s at the chateau, but his plans become derailed when his feelings grow more complicated—and she discovers his dark secret.

Cynthia Sax: Where does Dark Velvet take place?

Lisa Carlisle: I envisioned a castle set on a remote New England island that was set up to be an art colony. Residents could apply to work on their art for a period of time, away from all the stress of everyday life. Who wouldn’t want to visit? Once I worked on one story, I knew I’d return to the island to create more.

The setting itself was inspired by my travels. I love to visit castles, explore the ancient hallways with cool stone walls adorned with paintings, tapestries, or other works of art. I once had an opportunity to visit a writing retreat myself and having three days to work on my art was amazing. We have so many interruptions in our daily life. Being able to focus on creating in an awe-inspiring setting is an experience I hope to have again. Maybe in one like the Chateau in Dark Velvet!

Cynthia Sax: What creates problems between Savannah and Antoine?

Lisa Carlisle: The attraction is forbidden. Savannah arrives as a resident of the art colony so she can spend time working on her poetry. She’s distracted by the sculptor who founded the colony, whose gaze burns right through her and leaves her trembling. Acting on the attraction would be wrong, wouldn’t it? After all, he is the owner of the colony and her sponsor since she is there on a scholarship.

Cynthia Sax: Does someone in Dark Velvet have a secret?

Lisa Carlisle:
Yes! Antoine disguises himself as a human as the founder of the colony, but he is not. You’ll have to read to find out more about his dark past. 😉

Thank you, Lisa Carlisle, for joining us today!

Interview With Kathy Kulig

By Cynthia Sax on July 23, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Kathy Kulig for a short interview. Kathy Kulig’s latest release is Nightlord Lover, a sexy vampire menage erotic romance.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Garrick and Ramon so freakin’ sexy?

Kathy Kulig: There are two heroes in NIGHTLORD LOVER because this is a ménage story. Garrick can be described as the warrior vampire, a mysterious and muscular predator. And Ramon is the sorcerer vampire with special powers. He’s sleek and wild like a rock star. Both are strong and fierce when it comes to protecting and pursuing Larissa. They’re intent on claiming her, but not against her will. The only problem is, there are others who would claim her at any time, given the opportunity, even destroy her. Of course, Garrick and Ramon are hot, as vampires usually are.

Cynthia Sax: What is one thing you absolutely love about Nightlord Lover?

Kathy Kulig: I love the setting for this book. New Hope, PA. It’s a historical, colonial village along the Delaware River. There are many old homes, shops and restaurants here. It’s also known as one of the most haunted places in the world. I also like the magical element in this story and the symbiotic relationship mortal and immortals have that makes the town thrive until the rebels gets greedy.

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from Nightlord Lover?

Kathy Kulig: A favorite line that comes to mind is in the opening paragraph. I plan to start this intro. paragraph for each book to set the tone. It’s the internal thoughts of one of the vampires from the New Hope Guild. I’ll let the readers see if they can guess who it is. The line is: “Eternal nights awaken the sensual hunger that drives me into the shadows, searching for the one to end the agony and fill the need.”

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Nightlord Lover?

Kathy Kulig:
I’ve been to the real New Hope, PA many times and learned about the history, stayed in a couple bed and breakfasts (both claim to be haunted), and took the ghost tour. There truly is a hitchhiking ghost like I have in the story. I always felt it would be a great setting for a vamp story. While hubby and I stayed at one of the B & B’s, we learned about a hidden tunnel under this huge Victorian house that was built in the 1700s. The tunnel was part of the Underground Railroad that was used to rescue slaves and help them to freedom. This tunnel was found while the owners of the B & B decided to do some construction. They stopped the construction to preserve the tunnel.

The tunnel ran from a trap door beneath a gazebo in the yard to the basement of the house. As the writer, I thought what if there were dozens of tunnels like this all around the village connecting stores, businesses and homes? Vampires could travel underground in these tunnels during the day. And what if there was a tunnel that crossed beneath the Delaware River? In my story there is a council of vampire slayers who live in peace across the river. But not for long. All this musing created the beginning of Nightlord Lover
