My Awesome Mom And Mom-In-Law
Tomorrow is Mother’s Day in North America.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I are fortunate to have both our Moms still with us. (knock on wood)
I sent my Mom yellow roses (her favorites) and chocolate from a florist local to her. She knows the owner, went to school with him, and he always delivers the flowers himself. They have a good chat, which makes my Mom as happy as the roses and chocolate.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby will be bringing his Mom chocolate and cash. The cash will be rapidly redistributed to people and causes Awesome Mom-in-law feels need it more than she does. She has a generous soul…just like her son. (smiles)
I’m lucky to have two such wonderful women in my life and I hope you have wonderful women (including everyone who identifies as a woman) in your life also, whether they are biologically your Mom or Moms of the Heart, mentors you can learn from and love. (big hugs)

Hot Cross Buns And My Awesome Mom
When I was growing up, we didn’t have much. Some days, we didn’t eat (yes, here in Canada). We didn’t have outdoor plumbing (we used an outhouse). We made our own fun.
Some family members are still living like this today.
But every year, on Good Friday, my Awesome Mom would make hot cross buns for everyone and I mean everyone. (grins) She made them for the entire village. Other folks would drop by. It didn’t matter what people believed, their religion or their views on the universe. It was a celebration for everyone, a way my Awesome Mom, having not much at all, would give back to the world.
We, of course, didn’t have the fancy ingredients. There was no candied fruit. These hot cross buns had raisins and were topped with the simplest of icings (mostly icing sugar and straight-from-the-cow milk).
But stars, those buns were good. We would stuff our little faces.
And we would realize how very lucky we were.
We might have been poor but folks came from all over to eat my Mom’s hot cross buns, raving about how good they were. That was something to be proud of, something to be grateful for.
I’m thinking of her today, thinking how lucky I am to know such a generous, giving woman. I will definitely be calling her later, once the hot cross bun baking is done.

Under Strain
A damaged cyborg warrior is hunted by a peace-loving human female.

When a handsome, gray-skinned, brilliant-blue-eyed male arrives, surrounded by weapon-carrying warriors, she has to save him. Warriors harm and they kill. That is what they do.
She won’t allow them to hurt Strain.

Reading Green Today
Many of my ancestors came to Canada from Ireland during the Potato Famine. Canada’s resources were swamped but they kept accepting immigrants because that was the humane thing to do. I’m grateful for that, grateful to the residents who opened their arms and their hearts to my ancestors.
My Grandma and Grandpa on my Mom’s side would do fun (and so not traditional) things on St. Patrick’s Day every year, ensuring we all knew about our roots and how lucky we were.
My Grandpa, a huge music lover, would play The Unicorn by The Irish Rovers. He would play the juice harp (that’s what he called it because he claimed it required a lot of spit – grins) along with the record. We would dance and sing.
My Grandma would make her famed potato buns, which we devoured in mass quantities and got our hands lightly slapped if we tried to sneak them.
We would all wear green. That, my Grandparents would tell us, would bring us luck in the upcoming year.
Today, I’m wearing green AND I will be reading romance novels with green covers.
If you’re looking to do the same, Being Green, a free short story is a great choice for a cyborg romance. Green isn’t actually green. He gave himself that name because he loves all vegetation, especially his beloved plant Windy.

The Case Of Awesome Mom And The Missing Books
I’m fortunate to have an absolutely wonderful and so very entertaining Mom. Here is part of the conversation I had with her yesterday.

Cynthia Sax: (on phone) Did you get the shipment of books on Wednesday?
Awesome Mom: No! I didn’t get any books. I thought you forgot about me.
Cynthia Sax: I’d never forget about you. (I send her a snail mail letter every week and call her at least once a week.) I’ll track it down with Amazon. It must have gone to the wrong address.
(2 hours later)
Awesome Mom: (calls back) I checked and no one has received my books.
Cynthia Sax: You checked with the mail room?
Awesome Mom: I checked with everyone. Sometimes my mail goes to (x apartment building) and (y house) and (relays a long and very specific list of addresses). I called them and they haven’t seen it.
Cynthia Sax: (blinks) You called someone at (x apartment building)?
Awesome Mom: You can’t just call one person. (scoffs like I’m an amateur) I called the lady with my same apartment number and I called their mail room and I also talked with their maintenance staff. None of them have seen my books.

(grins) That’s my Mom.
She has NO internet access, doesn’t own a computer but she has a phone (a landline) and decades of experience watching CSI.
I suspect in a week she’ll have located the delivery person.
If her books are anywhere in her city, she’ll find them.
While she does that, Amazon is sending her replacement copies.

Testing Truth
A fun-loving cyborg gets serious about love.
