Cyborgs Vs Androids Vs Clones

By Cynthia Sax on September 21, 2015

See other great SciFi romance posts here – http://sfrcontests.blogspot.ca/p/sfr-brigade-presents.html

The Humanoid Alliance has developed cyborgs as their ultimate weapon. They’re specially designed soldiers.

Why cyborgs? Why not androids or clones?

Clones

Clones are 100% human. They’re genetic copies of existing people. If factions within the Humanoid Alliance don’t want humans to be put at risk in battle, they won’t want clones to be put at risk either.

Clones might not wish to be put at risk also. They have free will. They are likely to rebel when faced with a certain death situation.

Because a clone’s ability is limited to what humans can do, alien species that threaten humans will threaten clones also. They’ll kill the clones as quickly as the original. The Mantidae, for example, are so fast and strong, they will end a human’s life before his or her feet touch the ground.

Androids

Androids are 100% machine. They can be constructed to be as strong or as fast as humans require. They will follow orders without question. They wouldn’t ever rebel or decide not to fight.

There are beings within the Humanoid Alliance who would prefer that androids, not cyborgs, be sent to the battlefields.

The biggest issue with android warriors is that instinct is a part of fighting. We’ve all seen dancers or singers or sports figures who know all of the moves, have all of the training, yet they don’t have that mysterious ‘it’ factor, the instinct, the feeling down deep in their gut to do X at Y time.

I’ve spoken with many human soldiers and they attest to instinct playing a huge role in whether they survive a battle or not. They have a feeling that the enemy is in a certain spot. They look and that’s where the enemy is.

Cyborgs

Cyborgs are half human, half machine. They are stronger and faster than humans yet they have human instinct. The Humanoid Alliance believes they will follow orders without question (this belief is wrong).

Because cyborgs aren’t completely human, the humans can tell themselves that a cyborg’s life isn’t as precious as a human’s life. They can view them as disposable weapons.

They’re seen as the best option (for now) for the battlefield.

Half Man. Half Machine. All Hers.

Rage, the Humanoid Alliance’s most primitive cyborg, has two goals—kill all of the humans on his battle station and escape to the Homeland. The warrior has seen the darkness in others and in himself. He believes that’s all he’s been programmed to experience.
Until he meets Joan.

Joan, the battle station’s first female engineer, has one goal—survive long enough to help the big sexy cyborg plotting to kill her. Rage might not trust her but he wants her. She sees the passion in his eyes, the caring in his battle-worn hands, the gruff emotion in his voice.

When Joan survives the unthinkable, Rage’s priorities are tested. Is there enough room in this cyborg’s heart for both love and revenge?

SciFi Saturday News – Darth Vader As Martyr?, How To Speak To Aliens, And Baby Stars

By Cynthia Sax on September 19, 2015

I missed last week (due to being offline) so there are a zillion awesome stories I could cover this week. I’m giving you the ones I think will inspire you to write.

More Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teasing

JJ Abrams shares “Could the First Order exist as a group that actually admired the Empire? Could the work of the Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

Communicating With Aliens

SETI has released a free eBook that deals with the problems, pitfalls, and advancements that we’ve made in the quest to communicate with aliens. If you’re looking for the premise for your next SciFi romance, this eBook is gold!

http://www.fromquarkstoquasars.com/nasa-releases-free-ebook-about-communicating-with-aliens/

On that topic, scientists want to send modern messages to aliens in space

Dr Jill Stuart, space policy expert at the London School of Economics, shared that (this is a quote from the article, not her) ‘the messages featured on pictorial messages should be carefully thought out before deploying into space. She said that the attitudes of people have significantly changed over the past 40 years.’

The Martian And Space Technology

Folks in the space community are raving about The Martian. Much of the technology currently exists (either in testing or in reality), including the deep-space habitat Matt Damon’s character uses.

Speaking of space technology, Rebecca Burn-Callander has written a fascinating article on four future space technologies that will change the world in our lifetime.

“Imagine a world where severe storms, tornadoes, and flash flooding are no longer a threat to human life. Or a time when flying from London to Australia takes less than an hour.

Picture a future where our understanding of the dawn of time and the fabric of the universe are so sophisticated that time travel becomes more than just theory.

All of these emerging technologies are being worked on right now”

Space Nurseries

On the topic of the dawn of time, a telescope has captured some beautiful images of the Prawn Nebula and some young stars.

First Woman In Space

“Valentina Tereshkova travelled into space in 1963 in a craft programmed to ascend but not descend. This was compounded by the fact she had no toothbrush.” I love this woman.

Getting Drunk In Space

Valentina Tereshkova went to space without a toothbrush. Modern astronauts are testing special drinking glasses. Ballantine’s ‘Space Glass’ is the world’s first whisky glass designed to work in gravity-less conditions.

Who Owns Space?

Dr Jill Stuart, space policy expert at the London School of Economics, had a fascinating lecture on who owns space. If a private corporation discovers and lands on an uninhabited planet, does this company own it? If they mine an asteroid, who owns the minerals?

What SciFi news did you find inspiring this week?

What Is Your Cyborg Name?

By Cynthia Sax on September 18, 2015

I’m at Smart Girls Love SciFi Romance, talking about cyborg names.

Of course, what would a discussion about cyborgs be without mentions of Laurann Dohner ‘s unrelenting Steel, Eve Langlais’ cleverly sexy Einstein, and Mina Carter ‘s drool-worthy Lyon?

Here’s a snippet…

Rage, the hero of my most recent SciFi romance Releasing Rage, is a hunky cyborg. Cyborgs are (normally) manufactured to be warriors. They’re viewed as weapons and are often given model numbers instead of names.

Rage’s model number, for example, is C899321. That is how his human masters refer to him.

That ISN’T how other cyborgs refer to him. The cyborgs have given themselves names. These names reflect something core about them. Rage is often angry, infuriated by the injustices against his kind. His buddy, Crash, tends to push the limits of his processors until they ‘crash.’ Intrepid is fearless. Green (I’ll be giving his story for free to newsletter subscribers in December) loves his plant, Windy.

Read the full article here and let me know what your cyborg name is!

Interview With Tina Donahue

By Cynthia Sax on September 17, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with my good friend Tina Donahue for a short interview. Tina Donahue’s latest release is Surrendering to the Beast, an erotic paranormal and romantic comedy.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Daemon so freakin’ sexy?

Tina Donahue: Daemon may be a bad boy satyr, but he’s all heart, especially when it comes to Heather. He loves that sweet fairy like nobody’s business. No matter how much he’s hurting carnally, her needs come first. What a guy. While she’s taming him, he releases her inner bad girl. They’re the perfect paranormal couple, especially when Mistress Jin, or MJ, enters the picture and heats things up even more.

Cynthia Sax: Why are you super excited about Surrendering to the Beast?

Tina Donahue: Surrendering to the Beast is book two of my Taming the Beast series. I absolutely love writing these characters. I have a very irreverent sense of humor and have always liked romcom with a dash of the erotic. The series takes place at From Crud to Stud, a makeover service for supernatural beings. The characters include a good fairy, a reformed demon, a voodoo priestess, a god, Satan (of course), vamps, weres, and a half witch/half mortal who owns the joint. I’ve had so much fun creating these stories – they’re sexy and playful, but oh-so romantic.

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from Surrendering to the Beast?

Tina Donahue: A little background before I provide the line. Daemon, a satyr, comes to the makeover service to get rid of his horns, tail, and hooves. He wants to look totally human and boogie with mortal babes, until he meets Heather. After the makeover – OMG, what a bad boy. Since he lived in a forest all his life, clothes don’t mean much to him. Heather, a good fairy, takes him to her apartment since he doesn’t have anywhere else to stay. She calls for a pizza delivery and warns a very nude Daemon to cover his family jewels when the guy shows up.

Clueless, Daemon asks, ““Is his a lot smaller than mine? Will I make him feel bad
if he sees mine?”

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Surrendering to the Beast?

Tina Donahue:
It just happened. I had finished one series and wanted to try another. For some reason, I started thinking about a makeover service for supernatural beings. In many stories, vamps, weres, witches, whatever, have awesome powers and no problems because of them. I started thinking – what if the powers were giving them problems living in the world with mortals? What if they wanted to intermingle more easily with mortals? For example: what if a vamp wanted to date a mortal babe without sucking her dry? Thus From Crud to Stud was born. Weres get moonlight therapy so they don’t shift during a full moon. Vamps get therapy that curbs their bloodsucking ways. The more I thought about it, the more I saw it as a romantic comedy.

Thank you, Tina Donahue, for joining us today!

When she’s good, she’s very good. But when he’s bad, she’s better.

Taming the Beast, Book 2

As a good fairy, Heather is empathetic and chaste to a fault. No bad language, no dirty thoughts, flirting and no sex. But when a satyr named Daemon steps up to her reception desk at From Crud to Stud, she finds herself on the fast track to exquisite corruption.

Daemon is the total bad-boy package with a kiss straight from the dark side. Though he’s here for a supernatural makeover, Heather can’t imagine why any red-blooded woman would want him to change.

A disciple of the god of wine, Daemon has had his share of good times. But sex has never been this good. Heather brings out a new side of him, a side that makes him want to protect as well as pillage.

But Daemon needs a little creative backup to help set his fairy’s naughtiness free. And that means bringing in Mistress Jin. Under the genie’s tutelage and Daemon’s shameless lust, Heather is about to learn what it means to let loose.

Warning: Not your typical bedtime story. May lead to indecent behavior, a taste for voyeurism, discipline, bondage, m/f, m/f/f and f/f action, which will result in screaming orgasms. Proceed with caution.

Cover Reveal For Breathing Vapor

By Cynthia Sax on September 15, 2015

Woot!

My amazing cover artist, Amanda Kelsey, has sent me the cover for Breathing Vapor (releasing in November) and I love it!

Breathing Vapor

Vapor is the most advanced cyborg the Humanoid Alliance has ever developed. He’s a finely honed weapon, a warrior without parallel, half man and half machine. No lock can contain him. No being can stop him. Whatever he wants, he takes.

He wants Mira Breazeal, the Designer’s daughter.

She’s his one temptation, his sexy target. Vapor shouldn’t crave her caresses, steal her kisses, make her scream with ecstasy. The cyborgs want her dead and they would question his loyalty if he didn’t kill her. The humans would shoot him on sight if he dared to touch her.

Their love is forbidden. Their desire could be lethal. One human and one cyborg will risk everything for a moment of passion.

Cyborgs And Violence

By Cynthia Sax on September 11, 2015

Cyborgs were designed as weapons. Their number one reason for being is to kill the enemy (as decided by the Humanoid Alliance). The cyborgs’ machine side is programmed for dealing out death, their mechanics honed for battle. Their human side is bred to be hyper aggressive and not-at-all sensitive.

As Rage mentions in Releasing Rage, when cyborgs are fighting and breeding as they’re designed to do, they’re happy. It gives them satisfaction. (Rage is also good at fighting and that is a source of pride for him.)

Cyborgs have honor. They don’t kill simply to kill. They prefer to battle a being who is, in their eyes, ‘bad.’, either dishonorable or a threat to beings they care for. If the enemy is honorable, cyborgs try to limit their pain, ending their lifespans quickly. Rage’s view of the Homeland is a place where he decides whom he will battle.

Would A Cyborg Kill A Female?

One of the most common questions I’m asked is ‘Would Rage have killed Joan?’

Rage is many things but he’s not a sexist (unlike the Humanoid Alliance council members and the beings on his battle station). He has fought species that send their females into battle. He had to kill these females or he would have died. He saw how females could be as or even more competent and skilled in warfare as males. Rage respects their power and their strength.

If Joan had been a dishonorable human, mistreating Rage and his brethren, he would have ended her lifespan.

Exceptions

Cyborgs are half human and, as we all know, genetics isn’t perfect. There are cyborgs, like Crash, who don’t like to fight. They’re good at it. They’ve been manufactured that way. And while they are under Humanoid Alliance control, they have no choice. They have to kill the enemy or be decommissioned. But they don’t enjoy it.

This is challenging for them. Crash knows he’s different, not like the other cyborgs. He doesn’t quite fit in.

Everyone Is Assuming You Already Do This

By Cynthia Sax on September 9, 2015

In One Night With My Billionaire Master, half of Toronto’s business community believes that Arianna is having sex with billionaire financier and all around hottie, Logan Ross.

They aren’t having sex. Arianna is still a virgin. Logan protects her as best as he can and he pours naughty ideas into her ear but he doesn’t pressure her. He allows her to decide when they take this step.

Arianna starts to wonder why she’s resisting. Everyone (except for her father – and he’s certainly a key factor) assumes they’ve done the deed so why not do it?

When I first started writing, my business buddies assumed I sat around in my pajamas all day. I didn’t. I took a shower as soon as I woke up and dressed in business casual clothes (as all I had were these clothes and suits, being the total business babe that I was).

Then I started thinking… If everyone assumes I sit around in my pjs, maybe I should sit around in my pjs. I tried it and I liked it. Pjs are dang comfortable! And friends aren’t shocked when they find me wearing them at 2 in the afternoon. They expect me to be dressed like that.

Is there something that everyone incorrectly assumes that you do? Have you considered doing this one thing?

Note: If you purchased Mastered 2, you already have this story.

One night. No one must know.

This is the text I sent Logan Ross this morning. The billionaire financier is my father’s number one nemesis and has been pursuing me for months. He wants to own me, completely, promising exquisite pleasure balanced by equally intense pain, vowing to dominate me, to show me wicked things a virgin like myself shouldn’t be interested in.

But I am extremely interested, and I’ll risk everything—my job, my family, my future—to experience one night of total submission with this powerful Dom.

Will one night be enough for both of us?
