Interview With Carmen Falcone

By Cynthia Sax on May 31, 2017

I sat down (virtually) with Carmen Falcone for a short interview. Carmen Falcone’s most recent release is Brazilian Capture, a Romantic Suspense!

Cynthia Sax: What causes problems between Emanuel and Erika?

Carmen Falcone: I’m a sucker for lots of conflict, so, yes, I make sure there’s plenty of it in my books! In Brazilian Capture, Emanuel Duarte is a successful financial investor who moonlights as an activist. In fact, helping others in need is a passion of his. He wants to redeem himself from wrongdoings from his past. His target is Silas Lancaster, who’s a real estate giant who’s involved in embezzlement and possibly the disappearance of an employee who knew too much. After dozens of disadvantaged families lose their homes due to Lancaster’s greed, Emanuel decides he’s had enough. He kidnaps Lancaster’s daughter, Erika, to use her as leverage. So, as you can imagine, this event sets all kinds of twists and turns. How can Erika trust her captor? And how can he give her back to her father when he’s falling for her? Yet, if he doesn’t fulfill his part of the bargain, all his efforts will have been in vain—and the promises he made to others, unfulfilled.

Cynthia Sax: Ohhh… that’s some juicy conflict. Is Brazilian Capture part of a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Carmen Falcone: Yes! The first book in the Brazilians was Brazilian Revenge, and the next one is Brazilian Surrender. I’m totally in love with the sexy, daring Duarte brothers.

Cynthia Sax: What advice would you give new writers?

Carmen Falcone: Hang in there. Write. Writing probably should come first—instead of complaining or doubting yourself, use your energy and write. I firmly believe each book teaches us a lesson, and it exists for a reason. Even if your first book won’t be the one you’ll self-publish or the one to wow agents and publishers, still write it. And then another, and another.

Cynthia Sax: That’s great advice! What do you love about writing romantic suspense?

Carmen Falcone:
I love romantic suspense because it puts the main characters in odd and dangerous situations. Just think about it—tension/despair/panic can being the worst in people. So I really enjoy making the characters get to know each other while in danger of some sort; because everything becomes much more intense.

Cynthia Sax: Tension DOES bring out a different side of people. Thank you for joining us today, Carmen Falcone!

Interview With Dani Wade

By Cynthia Sax on December 8, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Dani Wade for a short interview. Dani Wade’s latest release is Beneath the Surface, Small Town Secrets Book 1, a Sexy Romantic Suspense.

Cynthia Sax: What is one thing you absolutely love about Beneath the Surface?

Dani Wade: Beneath the Surface originated from my own life experience, and is one of the things that excites me most about this story!
At the core of the suspense in Beneath the Surface is Emma’s search for her twin sister, to whom she is psychically linked. The twins have always been able to feel each other’s emotions, but only in extreme circumstances. Now imprisoned by a man she thought she could trust with her body, Amy is reaching out to Emma in the only way she knows how…through her dreams.
Growing up as an identical twin gave me a lot of insight into Amy and Emma’s relationship. Everyone thinks that being a twin is completely cool…it is, but the dynamics of a twin relationship are much more complicated than that. It’s having that person who has been with you from before birth, knows more about you than you probably want them to know, can hit every irritation button you possess, and yet is someone you can’t imagine your life without.
Putting that on the page was a wonderful experience for me.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Beneath the Surface set?

Dani Wade: This entire series is set in the fictional town of Cadence, TN. Though I live in the suburbs now, I grew up on a farm in rural Tennessee. This type of small town—where there are enough people to create classes within the society, but few enough people that everybody knows everyone else’s business—has always fascinated me. These towns have secrets that the people don’t want spread, and they run risks to keep them quiet, creating a fine tension that becomes the fuse to a potential bomb. Fun to play with as a writer, and be swept up in as a reader.

Cynthia Sax: What causes problems between Emma and Colin?

Dani Wade: A lot of characters have conflict because they are so different from each other. I found it intriguing that Emma and Colin’s conflict is instead rooted in the same goal: the responsibility they each feel to take care of their families. But in doing so, they put the other person’s family at risk. The search for Emma’s sister might uncover a lot of Colin’s secrets—unwanted secrets he has spent his adulthood protecting his grandmother and sisters from.

Cynthia Sax: Is Beneath the Surface part of a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Dani Wade:
This story is part of a loosely connected series all set in the same town of Cadence in rural Tennessee. The Small Town Secrets series already has this book and a novella, Snow Bound. Book 2 is already in the works for release next year, along with a planned Book 3. Each book features a different couple and mystery, but revisiting all the characters in this town is a must. I simply can’t let go of them!

Interview With Ella Sheridan

By Cynthia Sax on September 28, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Ella Sheridan for a short interview. Today is the cover reveal day for Ella Sheridan’s Teach Me, a Romantic Suspense.

Cynthia Sax: What makes your heroes sexy?

Ella Sheridan: Having been involved in the martial arts for close to a decade, the sexiest thing about my heroes (for me) is that they are fighters. There’s nothing quite like a man that can fight for his woman and still know how to touch her with tenderness, love, and of course, hunger.

Cynthia Sax: What is one thing you find super exciting about Teach Me?

Ella Sheridan: Teach Me is the first full novel I wrote. Though it has gone through many incarnations since, it excites me to know I accomplished what I set out to accomplish—to make this story the best it could be.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Teach Me?

Ella Sheridan: The hero. 🙂 Really, the story didn’t come to me; the hero did. Conlan dictated the story from day one, and I’ve never been more grateful to a character for taking over the reins!

Cynthia Sax: How does Teach Me start?

Ella Sheridan:
The intersection of Conlan’s and Jess’s lives occurs in only one place: the little coffee shop around the corner from the company where Jess works. They’ve seen each other there for months, but neither has had the nerve to move beyond attraction across a crowded room to actually meeting. They needed something to help them along (so I helped 😉 ).

Cynthia Sax: What is one aspect that makes Conlan and Jess right for each other?

Ella Sheridan:
In the physical realm, Conlan and Jess are opposites (and you know what they say about opposites…). Conlan is the strong one, and Jess, after what she’s been through, is less so. But in the emotional realm, it is Jess who has the courage to go after what she wants, despite the pain she’s been through. It’s Conlan who has to find the strength to follow his heart.

Cynthia Sax: Does a character in Teach Me have a secret?

Ella Sheridan:
What is it? If I told you that, it wouldn’t be a secret anymore, now would it? 😉

Cynthia Sax: Is Teach Me a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Ella Sheridan:
Teach Me is a series. Conlan’s best friend, Jack, meets his match in book two, Trust Me, out at the end of December. And book three will feature another soldier from Jack’s past, Gabe, and his twin brother. That book, Take Me, will be released in February of next year.
