Friday The 13th And Superstitions
Today is Friday the 13th, a day some people consider to be ‘bad luck.’
One of my loved ones was born on a 13th so I have a very different view of the day. The day she was born was a very lucky day for me.
I DO hold other superstitions.
I consider ladybugs to be good luck. Being from the farm, I know ladybugs eat some insects that are harmful to crops.
I ‘knock on wood’ after I say something is going well. This reminds me that things might change and I should be grateful for the current state.
I NEED to see the Dear Wonderful Hubby off, giving him a kiss and a wave, whenever he leaves the house. If I don’t do this, I feel…unsettled until he returns. I worry that it might be the last time I ever see him. Danielle has the same superstition in the movie Ever After. Her stepmother and stepsisters don’t follow it when her father leaves and well, we all know what happens to Cinderella’s father.
I don’t like to leave cook time on the microwave. I heard when I was a kid that if the microwave is stopped before the set time and that time is left on it, it could turn on and blow up. There’s no science to this. I know this is a myth. (sheepish grin) Yet I still have to delete the remaining time.

NaNoWriMo
November is NAtional NOvel WRiting MOnth (i.e. NaNoWriMo), a month in which many writers challenge themselves to write 50,000 words in 30 days.
(If your favorite writers disappear, they are likely participating in NaNoWriMo.)
It is often a lot of fun. Writers don’t have very many group events. This is one of them and many of us embrace NaNoWriMo.
I NEVER win NaNoWriMo. November is a huge revisions and edits month as editors prepare for the holiday season. That takes time away from writing fresh words.
November is also a very busy month in other areas. There is holiday shopping and charity work and the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I like to participate in US Thanksgiving (meeting with family and friends will be done over videochats this year).
If you’re participating in NaNoWriMo and you don’t win, that’s fine! The 50,000 word official goal is just a number someone made up. The true goals are to give the writing a little more focus and hopefully write a few more words and have fun.
This month, I plan to do very little fresh writing. I’m currently revising Containing Malice (releasing in February). After that has been completed, my goal is to revise three more short stories for the next C.S. Sax collection.
So I won’t be officially part of NaNoWriMo this year but I WILL be cheering for my writing buddies! Have a blast with it and celebrate the writing!

Halloween is the time of monsters and I absolutely LOVE monsters. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite tropes and who is the Beast? He’s a monster.
I absolutely believe monsters deserve love and companionship. Often they are misunderstood and merely appear scary.
The hero of Dark Thoughts, Kralj, truly IS scary. He was designed to kill and he does that very enthusiastically.
He doesn’t scare Dita, however.

Gratitude
This is Canadian Thanksgiving and it is a unique one this year. (grins) My section of the universe is in renewed lockdown. In order to keep our loved ones safe, we have been asked to celebrate face-to-face only with the people in our household.
I’m grateful that our leaders are concerned about our wellbeing. Telling people to stay home for Thanksgiving wasn’t an easy task to tackle. But they did it because they care about us.
I’m grateful I have loved ones (biological and found family) I am trying to protect. I care about the family and friends I would have normally visited. I care about the people in my neighborhood. I want to keep the big German Neighbor, his tiny Wife, the two Princesses safe. I care about Dorine, the single Mom who works at the corner grocery store. And I care about so many others.
I’m extremely grateful for technology and online shopping. I’ve set up Zoom meet-ups with friends and family so I can see their beautiful faces. I’ve sent my Awesome Mom and other loved ones little gifts through online stores. My cards and letters to them have already been delivered.
I’m grateful for my Dear Wonderful Hubby who has purchased THREE pies for this weekend-pumpkin, blueberry and apple. He is striving to make this Thanksgiving special and I truly appreciate that and him.
And I’m super grateful for you and the rest of my Romancelandia family. (big hugs) When I feel a little lonely, I jump on Twitter or Instagram and there’s always a friend there, willing to chat. That is such a gift.

Talking Testing Truth And Timing With Delilah Devlin
I’m visiting Delilah Devlin’s online home today, talking about Testing Truth and timing.

Truth, however, is a fun-loving cyborg warrior. He deals with darkness by making jokes and causing chaos. He has known loss and torture and horror but he chooses to focus on the good, the fun, the laughs.
This means any story featuring Truth won’t be overly dark in tone. He simply won’t allow that to happen. He’ll crack a joke and the tone will become light again.
I worried, two years ago, reading buddies wouldn’t embrace this lighter story.

Testing Truth
A fun-loving cyborg gets serious about love.

Truth lives each moment as though it were his last. The cyborg warrior rushes into danger, teases beings he shouldn’t provoke, accepts every call of adventure he encounters.
When a prissy little human princess floats into the Rebel structure Truth is occupying, seeking a mercenary to assist her and her unusual entourage, he volunteers to be her warrior. She claims their assignment is dangerous, warns him he might not survive the task.
That is exactly the type of fun he has been seeking.
Princess Nanette of the planet Royaume must rescue her estranged brother from an enemy prison ship. That is her duty, and she has been trained to always place the needs of her planet and her subjects before her own. Nancy doesn’t have the freedom to indulge her passions for a certain dark-haired, gray-skinned cyborg. Not permanently and not publicly.
But she is unable to resist the warrior. Truth, with his laughing eyes, smiling lips, and rough hands, tempts her as no one else ever has. He could be her one fleeting act of rebellion before she’s matched with the powerful ruler her planet requires.
If they survive their current mission.
Their love is doomed. Their lifespans are at risk. This cyborg and his princess will need the help of every ally they have if they wish to see another sunrise.

Meteor Shower Wonder
Last night, the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I yet again ventured outside to gaze at the stars. It was one of the peak days for the Perseid meteor shower in our corner of the universe, a great night to look at the falling debris left by the comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.
And it WAS a great night. One of the meteors we saw was so big and so bright; it scared me a bit. It looked like a scene out of one of those asteroids-hitting-the-Earth disaster movies I love so very much (My favorite of those is Deep Impact. I enjoyed the government trying to initially cover it up angle.) I half-expected to feel the force of it.
Thankfully, it burned up before hitting our planet. All it did was give the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I a magical moment and leave us with a great memory.
