You – “I’m sad.”
Your Friend – “You shouldn’t feel sad. You have (this) and (this) and (this).”
Our loved ones mean well when they respond like this. They want to ‘fix’ our feelings. They love us and they want us only to experience happiness.
But we are feeling the way we are for a reason. The feelings we’re having aren’t wrong…for US.
Sure, we can try to change them. When I feel stressed, for example, I go out into the garden and look at the greenery. That reduces my stress.
Sometimes, however, I just allow myself to FEEL. I have sad moments. I have angry moments. I have worried moments.
Loved ones might not understand why I have these moments but consciously or subconsciously I know why and these are legit and right emotions for ME.
We are complex beings. We have complex feelings.
These feelings are never wrong.
