Ease Your Fears
When the Dear Wonderful Hubby plans to go to bed after I do, he turns on the light on his side of the bed. We joke about it being the anti-monster light. He knows I don’t like to sleep with the lights off unless he’s sleeping beside me, protecting me.
I’m not scared of the dark. I’m scared of sleeping alone (i.e. without someone I trust by my side) in the dark.
I accept this.
I’ve shared this with the person I love.
We take this small step to ease my fears.
Fears aren’t always rational but they ARE very real. If it doesn’t harm anyone else, take steps to ease your fears.
If you’re food insecure (as I am), for example, have an emergency case of beans in your pantry. If you’re scared of walking home alone, ask a friend to walk with you. If you’re scared of spiders, arrange to have your home cleaned (by friends or a paid professional or someone else) every week.
Do what YOU need to do to feel safe, my friends.

What Can I Make With This?
The Dear Wonderful Hubby came home yesterday with SIX 8 ounce/250 g blocks of cream cheese. The grocery store was selling each block for $1 as they were near their best before date. They are usually north of $4 a block.
We are two people. We tend to go through one block a month using it as spreads.
So we have an opportunity to get creative.
Yesterday, I made fudge using one of the blocks. It was pretty dang good. And the fudge can be stored in the freezer.
I might use up two more blocks that way, freezing the fudge.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby is planning to make a cheesecake.
We might also make some dips. Or stuffed pasta. Or other things.
We’re having fun with this. (smiles) And we’re eating well.

Why Are So Many Celebrities Dying?
When I feel down in the dumps about so many celebrities I know dying,
I remind myself
that this is because I’m fortunate to KNOW of a lot of celebrities.
My grandparents might have known only one hundred or so celebrities. Those were mostly movie stars, TV stars, singers, political leaders and sports folks.
I know of THOUSANDS of celebrities. There are the movie stars, TV stars, singers, political leaders and sports folks, yes, but there are MANY more of them.
My grandma had ONE TV channel.
I have a thousand or more TV channels.
She listened to ONE radio station.
I have thousands of radio stations featuring artists from all over the world.
Being Canadian, she knew the name of the President of the US and that was about it.
I know of Senators and Congress people.
I also know of streaming stars, YouTube stars, influencers, and so many other people.
My world is much bigger.
And I know of a LOT of people. So, of course, I will lose a LOT of people.
This is still sad but it is a fortunate place to be.

You Can Stop
If something, that in the past you were doing because it gave you joy, no longer gives you joy, you can stop doing that something.
If something, that in the past you were doing because it earned you much needed cash, no longer earns you much needed cash, you can stop doing that something also.
You don’t have to read an entire book series. You don’t have to spend your entire working life at the same job. You don’t have to finish a movie. You don’t have to eat the whole cake. (Yes, I heard that gasp. – grins) You don’t have to continue a side hustle. You don’t have to separate lights and darks while doing the laundry this week.
If it no longer serves you (makes you happy or earns you an income or…), you can stop. You have that ability.
Stopping that action will also free up your time and energy for something else. Which is an awesome gift to yourself!

Give Others A Chance
We have a tradition in our neighborhood.
If we have a large item for garbage pick up and it might, just might be, of use to someone else (like the scrap metal collectors), we put it out at the curb the day before pick up, often with a sign stating why it is being trashed.
And 8 out of 10 times, someone else CAN use it.
If it doesn’t hurt you in any way, give others a chance. Leave that already-read romance novel in the Little Free Library. Put out that potted plant you no longer want on the curb with a sign saying ‘Free to a good home.’ Let the traveler rushing to make their connecting flight exit the plane before you.
Give them a chance. Put that good energy out into the world.

If You’re On The Wrong Path
If you’re trekking along a path (this could be a career path or a life path or an actual physical path)
and you realize the path isn’t for you,
maybe it leads to a place you no longer want to go or it is too rough or it’s too long or something else,
stop and turn around!
Backtracking is ALWAYS an option.
Sometimes we discover awesome things (about the world or ourselves) when we backtrack.
Heck, I backtrack in writing all the time. I’ll delete entire chapters and take my characters in another direction.
Life is an adventure. And adventure is NEVER a straight line OR all forward movement. It winds. It loops back. It backtracks.
You can do this too!

Do A Little Bit
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I are privileged, over the years, to have obtained too much stuff.
We have decided to declutter, giving our excess to charities or loved ones, sharing our bounty.
This is a BIG job.
But it doesn’t feel that way.
Because we’re decluttering 3 items every day. That’s our easy-to-meet quota.
Life isn’t all or nothing.
We don’t have to write a novel in a day or plant a garden in an afternoon or do all the laundry all at once.
We can write 200 words a day, plant a couple seeds, throw one load in the washing machine.
Do a little bit and watch those little bits add up.

It’s Okay Not To Know Everything
We, humans, haven’t identified most of the tiny lifeforms living in a handful of soil.
We uncover new-to-us MUCH larger animals and plants and other lifeforms every dang day on the wonderful planet.
NONE of us know everything.
And it is okay to admit that.
It is okay…actually it is GREAT to say “I don’t know enough about this to talk about it so I’m going to listen and learn.”
That’s wise. And that’s powerful. And it’s freeing.
You can pick and choose what you gain knowledge about or become an expert in. And the task of gaining knowledge about everything else can be delegated to other people. They can share the load.
(smiles)
You will NEVER know everything. And that’s a wonderful thing!

Tell Someone You Like Their Shirt/Blouse
The world has been…challenging lately for just about everyone.
So yesterday, I made it my mission to say something nice to as many people as possible.
I looked around a crowded resale store, for example, saw a lady in a pink floral blouse, told her I loved it.
Her face lit up. And her shoulders straightened.
She smiled and said thank you.
Bam. I made her day a tiny bit better.
Tell someone you like their shirt/blouse and watch as this changes their world for the better.
Yes, it is THAT easy to do.
And isn’t that an awesome superpower to have?

You Can Let It Go
We can’t fight every battle in existence in this wonderful world today.
That’s impossible.
There are too many battles waging. And we only have 24 hours in the day (here on Earth – if you’re reading this from another planet, your days might be longer. – grins).
We need to rest. And have peaceful moments in our lives.
So pick your battles.
If someone posts a terrible take on social media, for example, and it is not your area of expertise, consider scrolling past. Or blocking them. Or forming a rebuttal in your mind but not actually posting it (and having to deal with the responses).
Don’t do this with everything, of course. We have to fight for something. But save that energy, my friend, for the issues you really care about.
Your peace matters also. Protect it.
