Every year, in Canada, at the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we commemorate the sacrifice of all those who serve and have served, past or present, on or off the battlefield, with a moment of silence.
Today, as always, I’m thinking of my Great Uncle Frank (you can read some of his story here – https://tasteofcyn.com/2013/11/11/lest-we-forget/ ) and the horrors he endured while he was fighting Fascism and keeping us safe and free. His experiences in the war forever changed my big quiet Great Uncle.
I’m also thinking about the wounded warriors I once met during a charity event. I told them I wrote about cyborgs and they were amazed (and more than a little skeptical) that readers could view people like them – people with mechanical legs and arms – as romance heroes. I hope, wherever they are, they have found people to love and who love them.
They ARE heroes. And I honor their sacrifices.
Lest We Forget.
