Remembrance Day 2025

By Cynthia Sax on November 11, 2025

Every year, in Canada, at the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we commemorate the sacrifice of all those who serve and have served, past or present, on or off the battlefield, with a moment of silence.

Today, as always, I’m thinking of my Great Uncle Frank (you can read some of his story here – https://tasteofcyn.com/2013/11/11/lest-we-forget/ ) and the horrors he endured while he was fighting Fascism and keeping us safe and free. His experiences in the war forever changed my big quiet Great Uncle.

I’m also thinking about the wounded warriors I once met during a charity event. I told them I wrote about cyborgs and they were amazed (and more than a little skeptical) that readers could view people like them – people with mechanical legs and arms – as romance heroes. I hope, wherever they are, they have found people to love and who love them.

They ARE heroes. And I honor their sacrifices.

Lest We Forget.

Remembrance Day 2024

By Cynthia Sax on November 11, 2024

Here in Canada, every year, at the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we commemorate the sacrifice of all those who serve and have served, past or present, on or off the battlefield, with a moment of silence.

This year, with the rise of Fascism here and around the world, Remembrance Day is especially poignant for me.

Today, I’m thinking of my Great Uncle Frank (you can read some of his story here – https://tasteofcyn.com/2013/11/11/lest-we-forget/ ) and the horrors he endured while fighting Fascism and keeping us all safe and free. His experiences changed my big quiet Great Uncle forever. His time during the war haunted him to the day he died.

The best way we can honor his sacrifice and those of so many others is to never allow Fascism to take hold again. People (and dogs and horses and…) have died for our freedom. Protect it.

Lest We Forget.

Remembrance Day 2023

By Cynthia Sax on November 11, 2023

It is Remembrance Day in Canada (the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month). We commemorate all those who served, who have protected us on and off the battlefield.

I’m thinking, as always, about my Great Uncle Frank on this day (You can read his story here – http://tasteofcyn.com/2013/11/11/lest-we-forget/ ). His experiences at war changed him forever. And his remembrance of those battles changed me forever also.

I’m also thinking of all the other warriors I’ve met over my lifetime.

Their service and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Remembrance Day 2022

By Cynthia Sax on November 11, 2022

Today is Remembrance Day here in Canada. We commemorate all those who served, who have protected us on and off the battlefield.

I always think of my Great Uncle Frank on Remembrance Day. His wartime experiences changed him forever. (You can read his story here – http://tasteofcyn.com/2013/11/11/lest-we-forget/ ) He sacrificed so much to keep us safe.

I also think of him when I write. And I think of the other warriors I’ve met. They were willing to trade their lives to protect us.

That’s my definition of a hero.

Their service and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Remembrance Day 2021

By Cynthia Sax on November 11, 2021

Today is Remembrance Day in my corner of the universe.

I always think of my Great Uncle Frank on Remembrance Day. He was my first exposure to the sacrifices of soldiers and to the horrors of war. (You can read about my Great Uncle Frank here – http://tasteofcyn.com/2013/11/11/lest-we-forget/ ) His experiences made a lasting impact on me.

And it has influenced my writing and how I write about warriors. (You can read more about that here – http://tasteofcyn.com/2020/11/11/the-darkness-of-war/ ) I think of Great Uncle Frank and the other warriors I’ve met when I write many of my stories.

As I am thinking about them today.

Their service and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
