Power and Astrid Ragnhild, the Buoir Berserker, Vengeance’s Warrior Female have a complicated relationship. They first met in Taking Vengeance. Power tried to claim Astrid for his female but Astrid convinced him to cling to the hope of finding his own genetic match.
During his unusual courtship, Power revealed a tiny slice of his true self, of his ambitions, his vulnerabilities, his desires. He wasn’t looking for someone to boost his position within the cyborg council. And his pursuit of Astrid wasn’t about physical need either. It was emotional. He was looking for someone he could talk with, someone he could trust.
Astrid responded to the loneliness in Power. She, being the warrior female she is, has claimed him as her friend, despite his resistance and Vengeance’s dislike of Power. There’s nothing the two males can do to stop her from liking Power. (grins) They have to deal with it.
None of this happened in a bubble, unfortunately. Cyborgs communicate everything and Eirene Ours, Cadet, has been following Power’s moves closely.
She knows about his pursuit of Astrid Ragnhild, the Buoir Berserker, Vengeance’s Warrior Female.

New Sources Of Energy
The Samsung booth at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas unveiled a remote control that doesn’t require batteries.
It runs off RF energy i.e. radio frequency waves. RF energy comes from our wireless devices themselves, from cordless phones, cell phones, laptops, microwave ovens, etc.
The remote controls can also be charged with indoor lights.
And it is manufactured from recycled plastic.

Seizing Power – Third Scene Of The First Chapter
The countdown to the release day for Seizing Power continues!

Two shifts later, Power remained in the cyborg council chambers. His surroundings were quiet, still. He was now completely alone.
Vengeance and Death had left with their females. The caring reflected in the couples’ eyes had emphasized his solitude.
The other members of the cyborg council trained with their model types, building, strengthening their relationships with those warriors. There were no concerns about undue influence because Power ultimately made all the decisions. They were free to openly care for their brethren.
He was free to work. Wires had been inserted into his wrist sockets. That restored his energy levels. Sleep was unnecessary for cyborgs. They didn’t have that weakness.
Power could work every shift…and he often did that. Nothing and no one waited for him in his private chambers. Only emptiness and isolation lingered for him there.
In the council chambers, there was an 18.1245 percent probability someone might enter. He—
Are you sending ships to rescue our forgotten brethren? The voice over the transmission line was robotic, male. No visuals accompanied the audio.
Power processed who it belonged to, however. The cyborg he had named Cadet contacted him at regular intervals, always inquiring about the warriors who hadn’t been freed during the mass rebellion—the males who remained trapped, often under Humanoid Alliance control.
Although he projected it would be a futile effort, Power attempted to track the origins of the communications. It was relayed through multiple sites. The trail grew fainter and fainter until it eventually disappeared.
His lips twisted. One planet rotation, the warrior, that constant pain in his processors, would make an error. Then he would be identified.
Until that time, Power should ignore him. That would be as simple as muting the transmission line.
Yet, for some illogical reason, he couldn’t take that step. There was something about the cyborg that interested him, that kept him communicating with him. I have more urgent priorities.
And he would never again assign retrieval missions to warriors. That task was too dangerous to force his brethren to undertake.
You have more urgent priorities. The simulated laugh on the transmission line held no humor. Like adding fifteen levels to J Model Structure 2? Is that more urgent than saving the lifespans of our brethren?
Power narrowed his eyes at the blank viewscreen hanging on the far wall. How do you have knowledge of the addition to J Model Structure 2? That decision hasn’t yet been broadcast.
Was Cadet a J Model? Had he been involved in the proposal?
Power projected the male was more recently manufactured than he was. His past comments had held a naivety real-universe experience would have quickly and thoroughly eliminated.
The requests from our brethren for retrieval have been broadcast. The warrior didn’t answer his question. Yet you and the other members of the cyborg council take no action. Our brethren are dying, Power. They— Cadet’s transmission broke.
Guilt pierced Power’s frame. Those deaths rested on his shoulders. That damaged him, yet he accepted that fate…because he’d experienced the alternative, and that was much, much worse.
The lifespans of the many outweighed the loss of the few.
He squared his shoulders. My decision remains the same.
Stars. You’re such an arrogant ass. Cadet showed him no deference.
It was irritating…and unique. Others might mutter about him behind his back, but Cadet spoke his truth directly to him. If you had more experience, you would process why I made my decision.
I have experience, and I process more than you project. The warrior’s tone was dry. What is your current stance on the Humanoid Alliance’s actions? Will you address them, or are you too busy sourcing nourishment bars?
Power was tempted to mute the male’s insolence. There is nothing to address. The Humanoid Alliance’s actions don’t impact our sector.
There’s nothing to address? Cadet snorted. Our greatest enemy is fabricating space stations, filling those spaces with warships and robot warriors. They’ve created forces of undead beings. It is merely a matter of time before they try to retrieve, to recapture their former weapons of war—all cyborgs everywhere, including you and me. And you state there’s nothing to address? What universe are you living in, E Model?
Anger rose in Power, amplified by his doubts. He wasn’t merely an E Model. I am your leader. He reminded the warrior of that fact. Are you intercepting secured communications?
How had the warrior processed the specifics of his dealings with others?
You’re not my leader. That transmission sported a sharp edge. And how could a cyborg with no experience, a mere Cadet, have the skills to intercept secured communications?
Fraggin’ hole. The male irritated him. Unable to remain still, Power extracted the wires from his wrist sockets and stood. You didn’t answer my question.
Cyborgs were unable to lie. Their programming didn’t allow them to take that action. But they could evade queries.
Power paced the perimeter of the chamber, seeking to burn off some of his decision-hampering emotions and excess energy.
Are you intercepting secured communications? He repeated his query.
If the communications were adequately secured, no one would have the ability to intercept them. Cadet’s answer verified his projections.
The warrior was intercepting his communications.
Power’s speed increased. He clutched his hands behind his back.
Control over intel was key for success as a leader. An unidentified cyborg was accessing his transmissions. That was…alarming.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – February 6th
The countdown to the release day for Seizing Power (2/22/22) is on! Woot! I can’t wait for you to read this story!
I continue to work on the first draft of Provoking Odium, the first story in the new cyborg series (releasing in June). It is still progressing slowly due to everything else that is happening in the world but I don’t mind that leisurely pace. Spending more time on each scene pushes me to put more details, more thinking into it, and I can spend more moments with Odium and his female. I love that.

The Love Of Romance
The media tends to focus on romance novels during the month of February (due to Valentine’s Day).
Sometimes the focus isn’t favorable.
That happens…because some members of the media sadly don’t believe in the forces most romance novels celebrate – love, hope and optimism.
I can’t imagine living that way. (shakes head)
Love. Stars, is there a better feeling in the world than loving someone or something and knowing they love us back?
When one of my buddies returns home, her much beloved older doggy rushes to the door, tail wagging, barking with joy, super happy to see her, and all the darkness in her day temporarily fades away. That’s powerful ‘magic.’
Hope and optimism are equally powerful. They often pull us through the challenging times. The dark moment we’re currently experiencing can be overcome. Happiness is within our reach. What we are doing now will make a difference in the future.
Love, hope and optimism deserve to be celebrated and romance novels do this. I’m so happy and proud to be both a romance novel writer and reader and I’m honored to know you, another member of our wonderful romance novel community. (big hugs)

Ameca The Humanoid Robot
One of the most fascinating exhibits for me at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas was the Engineered Arts booth. The star there was Ameca, the humanoid robot (their description for her).
Look at the range of her expressions as she smiles at one of the people in the audience! She even blinks!
Her facial expressions, along with her AI-driven verbal responses to questions and interactions, were the huge advancements. Her hand and body movements were challenged, weren’t smooth or natural.
But wow, she was fascinating. I watched Ameca interact with people for over an hour. The nuances in her facial movements were amazing.

Throwback Thursday – Defying Death
Death, the hero of Defying Death, will do ANYTHING for one moment of happiness, one chance at experiencing love, companionship, caring.
That touched me when I first wrote his story. It resonates with me even more now, after two years of being in a pandemic, often under lockdown, separated from some of the people I love most in this universe (like my Awesome Mom).
Tifara, the heroine, wants to understand what is impacting her, why she feels this tremendous attraction toward Death, the big, tough, stern warrior male who is her genetic match. Her expertise is viruses so, of course, she perceives their out-of-this-universe chemistry as a virus.
The discoveries in Defying Death are KEY to many future events in the cyborg world. Tifara is mentioned in Seizing Power, for example.
Defying Death
He’ll risk it all for one moment of happiness.
Cyborgs don’t show emotion. Death learned that lesson early in his long lifespan. To survive, he hides his fierce passions behind a stoic wall. He calls no warrior friend. He never admits to caring for any being.
Even the human female he’s destined to love.
Tifara is Death’s obsession, his sole opportunity for happiness, to express the all-consuming passion burning brightly inside him. He’ll do anything to obtain the curvaceous medic: defy a direct order, abduct Tifara from her battle station, and wage war on his fellow cyborgs.
To earn her love, he’ll have to risk much, much more.

When Cyborgs Lose Control
One of my favorite parts in any cyborg romance is when the cyborg’s human side, their emotions, overwhelm their machine side, their logic, and they lose all control.
I’ve been waiting…impatiently…for Power’s story because he is one of the most controlled cyborgs we’ve encountered (Vector, I believe, is THE most controlled cyborg thus far). He displays emotion but usually only strategically.
Almost everything Power says or does is planned. He is playing a huge game of chess with everyone in the universe and has his moves set out three or four stages in advance.
But no one can make a cyborg lose his sh*t like his genetic match and Cadet/Eirene Ours is more than worthy of provoking Power.
(grins) This will be SO much fun.

Seizing Power
This cyborg believes he’s in control.
