Forklift Operators Working From Home

We’ve all heard talk about AI-driven trucks but Bobcat has a different view of using AI. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, they revealed their remote operating option.

A plow operator (or forklift operator or any large machinery operator) can now operate her plow from anywhere in the world. All she needs are screens set up all around her and the control panel. Cameras on the plow show her the real time view.

That is exciting for folks who don’t want to leave their warm houses in winter or their cooler houses in summer. And I can see how it will give humans more options when climate change hits hard and it is too hot for us to work outside.

Throwback Thursday – Chasing Mayhem

Imee, the kick a$$ heroine of Chasing Mayhem, was named after a beloved reading buddy. That’s what happens when you reach out to me, you will likely be featured in a future story. (grins)

Mayhem, the cyborg hero, chose his name because causing mayhem or being in the midst of it makes him extremely happy. He is pure chaos, as indicated by his wild hair.

Chasing Mayhem is also the first story to mention Kralj, the all knowing, all powerful ruler of the Refuge. Kralj’s story is Dark Thoughts and it is NOT a romance for those who are squeamish. He literally EATS his enemies.

Mayhem has spent his lengthy lifespan obeying the Humanoid Alliance’s rules. Finally free from their cruel control, the cyborg warrior plans to cause chaos. He infiltrates a remote settlement, provokes the savage locals until they want him dead, and allows himself to be captured by the sexiest little Retriever he has ever laid his mechanically-enhanced eyes on.

Imee’s sole mission in life is to keep her family alive. To do this, she must hunt rebels, returning them to the Humanoid Alliance’s evil clutches where they will be executed. Cyborgs And Workaholics

Power, the hero of Seizing Power (releasing 2/22/22), is a bit of a workaholic. He is driven by the need to do as much as possible for the cyborgs under his command (which are ALL cyborgs, according to him). There are millions of decisions to make every planet rotation and he feels compelled to make all of them.

Power also doesn’t have anything…or anyone to dissuade him from constantly working. He hasn’t yet located his genetic match (or so, he believes). He has few friends. He doesn’t allow himself to mingle with other E Models.

All he has is his leadership role and the tasks related to it.

Being a cyborg, Power has the ability to multi-task and he doesn’t require sleep. He can work without ceasing.

Unless a certain cyborg he calls Cadet interrupts him. (grins)

Massage Robots

Robots are being designed to replace every job.

These massage robots still seem a little rough but they are a vast improvement over the previous versions I’ve seen. Due to the pandemic, they unfortunately weren’t utilized on attendees (i.e. human beings). Their ‘clients’ look futuristic and android-like.

Seizing Power – Fourth Scene Of The First Chapter

Today, I’m sharing the fourth and final scene from the very first chapter.

The doors to the chambers opened.

Intrepid, one of the warship captains he had contacted, entered the space. He turned his head and looked at Power. The male’s expression went immediately blank. All emotions were purged from his countenance. He backed out of the chamber.

The doors closed and Power was alone once more.

You will not intercept my secured communications. He returned his full attention to Cadet. I am your leader. I’m every cyborg’s leader. And you will respect me.

You’re every cyborg’s leader? The warrior’s tone was incredulous, not respectful. Or are you merely the leader of the cyborgs located on the Homeland?

Cadet pushed him too far. Blast it. Power’s fingers folded into tight fists. I am every cyborg’s leader. Where you’re located isn’t relevant.

You’re every cyborg’s leader. There was a pause. Then act like it, E Model. Send ships to rescue the brethren left behind during the rebellion. Do that before the Humanoid Alliance restarts their universe-domination plans.

The warrior projected he had trapped him with that logic. But Power already processed the cyborgs situated outside the cyborg sector were his responsibility.

He skidded to a stop. The floor tiles dented under the heels of his boots. There are no perfect decisions. Part of his role was to keep as many cyborgs safe as possible. That sometimes resulted in endangering some of them. You would process that—

I would process that if I had more experience. Cadet made a disgruntled sound. I process your decision regarding our constrained brethren is 100.0000 percent wrong. I’ve been waiting for you to realize that, but the duration for waiting is now over.

Power experienced a sense of foreboding.

It was similar to the trepidation he’d suffered when he’d heard Regal, his vat mate, one of his best friends, hadn’t successfully escaped the Humanoid Alliance with his team.

It resembled the pangs he’d endured when Fidelity had followed his orders and embarked on that doomed mission to save Regal, leading their fellow E Models into danger.

And it was akin to the unease of uncovering that the warriors he, himself, had led had done what he was barred from doing and mounted their own rescue efforts.

Fraggin’ hole. That had been a series of disasters.

But the current situation was different. I haven’t authorized any course of action. He wasn’t sending Cadet into peril.

Whether you authorize it or not, it will happen. The warrior sighed. You leave me with no other option, Power. Remember that.

The transmission ended.

Power’s agitation didn’t ease. He tilted his head back and stared at the ceiling, replaying the conversation with Cadet. Every word, every nuance had been captured in his databases.

The warrior had accessed secured communications. Cadet’s own transmissions were untraceable. That implied he had competency with systems. His parting statement contained a warning, signaling Power wouldn’t like the option he was forced to take.

It was a threat with minimal consequences. The warrior’s proficiency with communications wouldn’t compensate for his inexperience. He had few solar cycles. His connections would also be limited.

And he was merely one being.

Power commanded millions of cyborgs. He had fought in battles long before Cadet had been manufactured. His skills had been honed by the harsh universe, had been carved into him by the Humanoid Alliance, their cruel manufacturers. He didn’t hesitate to make hard decisions.

They weren’t equals. Cadet wasn’t a danger to him, to his brethren.

Power shrugged away the disquiet in his soul and returned to his seat. There were decisions to make, a voyage to plan. He hadn’t the time for distractions, misgivings, regrets.

The cyborgs had only one leader.

He was that being.

His jaw jutted. He had tasks to complete.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – February 13th

Valentine’s Day is Monday. This can be a challenging day for many buddies. Try, if you can, to focus on the love all around you, love from humans, pets, plants, others.

I love you. (big hugs) My universe is so much better because you’re in it.

One of my traditions (set long before I met the Dear Wonderful Hubby) is to buy myself one of those heart-shaped boxes of chocolates stores stock for Valentine’s Day. I show myself some love.

The Future Of Farming Or Agri-Lots

My beloved Grandpa was a farmer. His parents before him were farmers. When we were young, we had a massive garden, raised chickens, pigs, had a milking cow. Farming is in my blood.

Which is why many of my characters also come from the farm or agri-lots as they call them in the future. Humans and most humanoids need to eat. Someone has to supply that food, even in space.

So, of course, I spent some time at the massive John Deere booth at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas.

This year, the big reveal was See & Spray technology. Instead of a farmer blanketing their field with herbicides to kill the weeds, there’s now technology that detects a weed (using color differentiation in the field) and only sprays it. John Deere estimates this can reduce herbicides by 77%.

Preliminary Blurbs/Book Descriptions

The blurb/book description live right now at booksellers for Provoking Odium is EXTREMELY rough. It hasn’t been edited. I haven’t completed the first draft of the story and some things in the book description might change.

This isn’t me being tricksy or anything like that. (grins) I genuinely don’t know everything about a story until it has been finalized. My Awesome Editor might not think the heroine’s name suits her or she might believe Odium’s goals are a bit different than I stated or I might, at the last minute, decide another character should be mentioned or the heroine shouldn’t be a human (this is unlikely to happen with Provoking Odium as Odium has issues with humans and I LOVE that conflict).

Every bookseller gives readers the ability to cancel pre-orders. If I make a change that you don’t like, use that super power!

I hope you don’t, however, because Provoking Odium is going to ROCK. (beams) I love this fraggin’ story!
