A Year Of Sizzling Hot Sax – Sinful Rewards 3 Read Along

By Cynthia Sax on September 16, 2014

The third novella in Sinful Rewards, a 12 novella contemporary erotic romance serial, releases today! I know many reading buddies have been waiting, wondering what Bee, our unlikely exhibitionist, will do next and whom she’ll choose – Nicolas, the billionaire with a dark secret or Hawke, the tattooed bad boy biker.

Between stories, we’re having a blast on our Goodreads group (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/139616-a-year-of-sizzling-hot-sax-read-along ). I’m sharing fun facts, bad puns, and insider information. Last month, I shared a hot ménage scene between Cyndi and the Tantra Twins. This month, I will be telling more of Cyndi’s story.

Here are some other discussions we’ll be having this month on the Goodreads group.

How To Cheer Up A Friend/Love Interest

***

I enter the car and Isaac closes the door. A small table is pushed against the far wall. A piece of paper is set flat on the surface, beside a silver spoon and an ice bucket. I slide closer and read the jagged script.

Call me if you need more.
Your Friend,
N

I peer into the ice bucket. Nestled amidst the perfect cubes of ice is a single-serve tub of decadent chocolate ice cream. My chest warms, Nicolas’s thoughtfulness delighting me.

***

Bee receives some crushing news in Sinful Rewards 3. Nicolas, Hawke, Lona, and Cyndi respond to this news in very different ways. We’ll talk about what this says about them and their relationship with Bee.

Biker Bars

***

The street is reassuringly well lit, the streetlights supplemented by the headlights on hundreds of very pretty motorcycles. No, not pretty, I mentally correct myself, remembering how upset Hawke had been when I called his bike pretty. They’re manly. . .and beautiful. Handsome? I frown, searching for the right word.

“Come on, slowpoke.” Cyndi grabs my wrist, pulls me forward, toward the entrance to the Road Gator. The sign is lit in neon green. Leather-clad men lounge around their bikes. They turn their heads and then straighten, their perusal escalating my anxiety.

***

Hawke’s favorite biker bar is called The Road Gator. A road gator is a dangerous scrap of tire left on the pavement. It can cause a serious accident if bikers aren’t aware of it.

Why is this an appropriate name for the bar? Are there road gators in Bee’s life that she should be aware of? And, of course, we’ll be sharing funny bar and restaurant names. (grins)

Interview With K. Bromberg

By Cynthia Sax on September 15, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with K. Bromberg for a short interview. Today is the release day for K. Bromberg’s Raced (A Reading Companion to the bestselling Driven Series), a Contemporary Erotic Romance.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Colton so freakin’ sexy

K. Bromberg: What makes Colton sexy? He’s arrogant and harsh and yet can soften when face to face with little boys. He’s damaged and broken and yet he allows Rylee to try and piece him back together. He’s good-looking but not perfect…imperfectly perfect is how Rylee refers to him. He’s an asshole but there’s a reason behind it, a defense mechanism that his point of view allows the reader to see that he’s trying to let her in. He might still be messing up, but he’s trying. He’s got a dirty mouth, can dominate in bed, and loves cotton candy. He thinks extravagance is overrated and prefers simplicity – beach picnics and dates at a carnival – rather than jetting off somewhere else. He’s the little boy inside the damaged man wanting to be whole again, taking baby steps toward that peace. I think he’s such a myriad of contradictions and yet each one has a redeeming quality that makes you root for him, makes you fall for him right along with Rylee.

Cynthia Sax: What excites you about Raced?

K. Bromberg: I was excited to write RACED because it was fun to look at certain scenes in the story and figure them out through Colton’s eyes. When I originally wrote the chapter in Rylee’s point of view (POV) I didn’t have to think about what was going through Colton’s mind, what he was thinking, how he was figuring out how to handle these new emotions she stirred up in him. So sitting down to write these scenes after the entire series has been played out proved challenging as well as exciting.

It was challenging because there were times I’d explain what Colton was thinking and realize I couldn’t possibly write that because it would have altered the course of the books and since they are published I can’t do that. Writing RACED was almost like piecing a puzzle together and making sure the proper edges connected to make the picture complete. Even better than rewriting scenes was writing a few new scenes that better explain a few things and his actions.

The book was exciting because I missed Colton. He is fun to write. Full of sarcasm and humor and demons so there is always a schizophrenic nature to what he is thinking. It’s also liberating because he tells it like it is and where Rylee might have danced around a thought, Colton just plows right through it.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Raced?

K. Bromberg: My readers. Plain and simple. I’ve always said that I’d never rewrite the series in its entirety through Colton’s eyes because I feel like readers would get sick of him, that the nostalgia of reading his thoughts would become boring. With that said, I’d written several scenes from the series in Colton’s perspective for blogs over the past year. They were scattered across the internet and my readers kept asking me if I could put them all in one place. Along with that, they were asking for a few key scenes I hadn’t done, to be retold in his perspective. So after some thought, I asked them if they wanted something like this – a few scenes from each book in the series in one cohesive collection – and they said yes. So…RACED came about.

Cynthia Sax: What one piece of advice would you give new writers?

K. Bromberg:
I still consider myself a new writer so please bear that in mind when I give any advice on writing. I’m still learning with every book, still trying to improve so take my comment for what it’s worth. To any new writer, I say write, write, and write some more. Writing makes you better. Every time you go through the process of putting pen to paper (fingers to keys) you learn something new, hone your craft. Each time you edit a book, you learn something different about grammar, about phrasing, about making your prose crisper, cleaner, and more concise. So if I was only allowed to give one piece of advice, it would be write something every day, even if you think it’s crap and you delete every single word, you’re still writing.

Thank you, K. Bromberg, for joining us today!

You think you know me?

The No Social Media Challenge – AKA The Cyber Vacation

By Cynthia Sax on September 12, 2014

For a writer, there’s nothing better than disappearing into a literary world for hours, days, weeks and simply writing, focusing all of our energy on creating fascinating characters, enthralling situations, gripping conflict.

To do this, we have to turn off social media – Facebook, Twitter, blogs, all of the distracting noise from the outside world. I thought this was impossible but a buddy challenged me to this cyber vacation.

I did it (taking a week off social media)!!! And yes, it WAS rejuvenating. My creative wells went from empty to overflowing. I have ideas I can’t wait to write and a renewed passion for the business.

This cyber vacation wasn’t without its challenges. I thought I’d share the lessons I learned so your experience is even better than mine (though I question that is possible – smiles).

Planning

I don’t recommend you take the time off without planning for it first. Facebook friends will worry about you. Email buddies will get irritated that you’re not returning their messages. Business will be disrupted. Plan for this week (or more) off.

Choose the right time for this cyber vacation (preferably at least a month in advance). Release week is NOT the right time (laughs). The week (or more) should be slow. I chose a week with a long weekend.

Once you choose the week, block it off. Don’t accept any invites for this time. I could guest host a Facebook party or Facebook takeover a day. I turned all of these requests down for the week. Other writers understand. We’ll still love you!

I have a separate email address for my agent, editors and family members. This is the only email I checked during my week off. I told them I was taking the week off. This didn’t stop the urgent emails though. (grins) I’m glad I checked this email address.

I changed my Yahoo loops and Facebook groups to no notifications. I figured if it involved me, a buddy would email me and point to the message (which they did).

I posted on Facebook that I was participating in this no social media challenge. NEVER post that you’ll be physically away from home. Thieves scour social media, looking for these types of messages. But a cyber vacation is different.

I usually allow all of my buddies to post on my wall and tag me. However, this means I receive a lot of spam which I have to delete. As I wouldn’t be checking my wall for this spam, I turned off the ability for anyone else to post or tag me.

I scheduled blog posts, tweets, Facebook posts for while I was on cyber vacation. Some reading buddies didn’t know I was gone!

I set aside a couple of days when I returned to answer emails, PMs, etc.

During The Week

For the first couple of days while on cyber vacation, I accessed my computer from places I feel nervous about logging in from. I don’t like typing in passwords on coffee shop or public library wifi networks. Yes, I realize they are likely safe but I avoid it. This removed the temptation to check email or Facebook.

Once I had spent a couple of days offline and was sucked completely into the story I was writing, I felt less of a compulsion to surf social media. I scanned the headlines of my emergency email account every second business day and that was it. There were some emergency emails I had to tackle but nothing world ending.

I also had goals. I wasn’t depriving myself of social media. I was indulging with the writing. It was glorious, freeing, relaxing.

When I Returned

Remember those couple of days I set aside for answering emails? I needed them. I receive over 1,000 emails a day (from writers, readers, reviewers, bloggers). I DID receive a couple of “where are you?” emails. I had missed two luscious limited time only offers (not the end of the world). With the rest of the emails, it didn’t matter that I answered them a week later.

Would I do this again?

Yes! Sure, I missed everyone but I think I was a much better friend when I returned. I appreciated my buddies more. I was relaxed. I was happy. I had a zillion new ideas and some fresh words written.

Have you disconnected for a day, a week or more? What was your experience?

Interview With Dawn’s Reading Nook

By Cynthia Sax on September 11, 2014

Dawn interviewed me (and you KNOW how I love interviews – grins)

http://dawnsreadingnook.blogspot.ca/2014/08/discover-sinful-rewards-2-by-cynthia.html

Here’s a snippet…

If you could sit down with any author dead or alive who would it be?

Cynthia Sax: Sinful Rewards is a 12 novella serial. Serials have been enjoyed by readers for centuries. I’d love to sit down with Charles Dickens and ask him how he wrote his serials. I understand that he tweaked David Copperfield when he received reader feedback. How fast did he incorporate this feedback? Was it in the next monthly installment?

Hawke From Sinful Rewards: A Hot, Enticing God In The Flesh

By Cynthia Sax on September 10, 2014

Literaria shares

(and boy, was it tough to choose my favorite excerpt from this review – it ROCKED)

“Arousing and enveloping are two words I’d always use to describe Cynthia Sax’s writing. It’s like a warm spell that makes you forget the outside world and teases you into the private world her characters live in. I’m very fond of the author’s slow-burning, meticulous building of the mood and tension.”

Sinful Rewards – Cyndi’s Story

By Cynthia Sax on September 10, 2014

One of the fun things about having the Sinful Rewards Goodreads group ( https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/139616-a-year-of-sizzling-hot-sax-read-along) is I can share extra scenes from the story.

I can also share what minor characters are doing when they’re not ‘on the page’ with Bee. I’ve already shared the spicy encounter between Bee’s best friend Cyndi and the Tantra Twins. Cyndi’s private life REALLY takes off in Sinful Rewards 3.

Join the group! It’s free and I can assure you you’ll want to know more about Cyndi. Bee’s bestie is CRAZY!

Sinful Rewards 3 – Mesmerizing!

By Cynthia Sax on September 9, 2014

Yay! We have our very first review for Sinful Rewards 3 (releasing on September 16th)!

Monique Daoust at Fresh Fiction shares

“SINFUL REWARDS 3 is not a suspense series as such, and yet it’s filled with mystery; it’s sexy and deeply philosophical, bubbly and sparkling yet infused with doubt. Ms. Sax always writes remarkably well and here she outdoes herself: some sentences are beautiful beyond compare. SINFUL REWARDS 3 will leave you gasping, panting and begging for more. Mesmerizing!”
