Interview With Madison J. Edwards

By Cynthia Sax on June 30, 2013

I sat down (virtually) with Madison J. Edwards for a short interview. Madison J. Edwards writes hot erotic romances and her latest release is According to Plan, a very sexy contemporary. I love Madison and I love this story (though my favorite story of hers is still The Perfect Secretary… likely because it was the first story of hers I read)!

Cynthia Sax: What makes Tank super sexy?

Madison J. Edwards: Tank (Jake Steele) is sexy because he is totally committed to one woman. Even though he’s drop dead gorgeous and could have any woman he wants, he chooses Shelby and never waivers in his love for her. Never!

How sexy is that?

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from According to Plan?

Madison J. Edwards: “Do you want it hard and fast, or soft and slow?”

“Yes,” I whispered. God help me. I wanted it all.

I mean, really? Look at them. Smoke is rising between the punctuation marks. How could it not be my favorite?

This small interchange sums up the relationship between Tank and Shelby. He’s completely Alpha and could do whatever he wanted. Shelby would willingly acquiesce. However, he lets her lead the dance. She sets the boundaries. Flimsy, waking up the girly parts boundaries, but dammit – they’re hers.

Physically, they are smoking hot for each other and although it takes some time, we see they complement each other in so many other ways.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for According to Plan?

Madison J. Edwards: A phrase kept rolling through my brain, one inner thought.

“I hated when he called me Ro…made me think of salmon swimming upstream.”

At the time my heroine was called Rowena and this was her reaction to Regis, the icky neighbor calling her – yet again.

I originally was going to write it Bridgette Jones Diary style, a piece of chick lit, but romance and hot sex kept popping up everywhere. In the kitchen, the hallway, on the pool table – *sigh* – I love the pool table scene….

What’s a girl to do?

Cynthia Sax: Does someone in According to Plan have a secret?

Madison J. Edwards:
Tank is a Federal Agent, and the reader finds this out in the first chapter. No spoiler alerts here. However Shelby doesn’t know this and thinks Tank left her for another woman. He has to keep her in the dark until the case is closed, and it kills him.

Cynthia Sax: What do you love about writing Romance?

Madison J. Edwards:
Everything. Romance is my passion. If boy doesn’t meet girl, or vice versa I flounder. Although I enjoy reading a variety of genres, romance is my go to read. Always has been, always will be.

And to think it all started with The Cat in The Hat when I was four.

Cynthia Sax: (laughs) I’m not even going to ask. Is there any question you wish I had asked?

Madison J. Edwards:
Nope. Gotta have some secrets.

Thank you, Madison J. Edwards, for joining us today!

What do you do when things don’t go According to Plan? For starters, you trick, deceive and lie to the very person who ruined your best laid plans.

Shelby Stewart, P.I., has been hired to find socialite, Harrison Grant. However, Jake Steele (aka Tank) – her ex-partner, ex-lover, ex-everything is looking for Harrison as well, albeit for a very different reason. Harry’s the prime suspect in the murder of a call girl in L.A.

Frustration becomes Shelby’s newest partner as she attempts to out maneuver Tank in their parallel quest. However, Tank is not what, or who Shelby thought.

The Seen Trilogy – Sexy Excerpt

By Cynthia Sax on June 29, 2013

He Watches Me releases next week! Here is a sexy excerpt!

***

I extend my arms, bend my knees and dive into the water. I shoot across the pool, undulating, cool liquid streaming over my shoulders, breast, thighs, ass.

I curve upward and break the surface. I gasp and then laugh, unable to contain the joy bubbling within me. The stresses of a job I want yet can’t do, student loans I don’t know how I’ll ever pay back, and a life lived alone rolls off my shoulders.

I tread water with my feet and the waves lap at my breasts, slapping against my nipples, escalating my reckless need. I’ve never had sex, but that’s due to being distrustful of other people, not because of lack of passion. I burn. I need. Constantly. I run my right hand over my chest, across my flat stomach and between my legs, seeking relief.

I stroke my folds, brushing my fingertips over my clit, bobbing to the rhythm of my hand, adding my juices to the moisture surrounding me. I picture Michael with his shaggy blond hair, broad shoulders, and tight khaki-clad ass, imagining his blue-eyed gaze fixed on me and only me. I envision a giant purple alien watching me masturbate, his humanoid body naked, his cock overly large and extremely hard. And for some unknown reason, I conjure up piercing green eyes in a too-rawboned-to-be-handsome tanned face, a wayward lock of black hair falling forward.

“Gabriel Blaine.” I try out the technology billionaire’s name, my voice husky and low. “Blaine,” I repeat, liking the sound. I’m in his backyard, in his pool. It is only right I honor him with my impending orgasm. I work my pussy harder and harder, passion coiling around my chest, squeezing the air from my lungs, making it difficult to breathe.

Will he suck my breasts with that sternly-set mouth of his? I pinch my nipples, the pain sharpening my pleasure. Take me doggy-style in his big limousine, pounding into me hard and fast? I pull at my untamed private curls. Because he can’t wait to find a bed? I ruthlessly ravish my pussy, rubbing and writhing. Rivulets of liquid streak down my cheeks and into my panting mouth, my wet hair plastered to my face.

In my fantasies I’m not ignored. I’m a femme fatale, a woman no man can resist, a woman guys fight for, come to blows over. I reach deeper inside me, stretching me open with one, two, three fingers, savoring the fullness.

As I pump my pussy, the sensation of being watched intensifies. Instead of dousing the flames of desire, this fuels the heat between my thighs.

I tremble and shake. “Yes, Blaine,” I cry out, the waves surround me growing rough, my body tossed on a sea of sweet turbulence. “Yes.”

I thrust hard, slam the heel of my hand against my clit, throw back my head and scream. The darkness bursts with color and light. The stars spin around my head. My pussy clenches down on emptiness. I kick my legs, pushing my body out of the water. Droplets dapple and glisten on my skin.

My breathing steadies, the water flattens once more, and I still, my form loose and relaxed, my passion temporarily sated. I float lazily on my back and gaze up at the full moon, wishing I could take care of the other problems in my life as easily as I soothe my desires. “That was wonderful.” The words echo in the silence.

“I agree,” a deep voice drawls.

Interview With Ashlynn Monroe

By Cynthia Sax on June 28, 2013

I sat down (virtually) with Ashlynn Monroe for a short interview. Ashlynn Monroe writes hot erotic romances and her latest release is Reality Hero, a very sexy superhero romance.

Cynthia Sax: What do you find exciting about Reality Hero?

Ashlynn Monroe: This story is one of the best things I’ve ever written. This story has heart, but it also deals with some tough issues. I love the twists and turns in the story.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Reality Hero?

Ashlynn Monroe: I played with this idea for years before I tried to write the story, and then I rewrote the story in 2012. I wrote this during a dark time in my life when I needed a laugh. The story has a dark side, but it is balanced with humor. I love these characters and I hope my readers will too.

Cynthia Sax: What causes problems between Zane and Dina?

Ashlynn Monroe: The characters have a past, from childhood, that causes them to live with the constant fear of discovery. Zane’s powers have earned him enemies and Dina doesn’t want to be what gets him killed.

Cynthia Sax: Will this be a series?

Ashlynn Monroe:
I am working on Ella and Cas’s story. It is going to be a fun tale of super babies, reality TV weddings, and the ugliest bridesmaid dress in the history of dresses.

Thank you, Ashlynn Monroe, for joining us today!

Ashlynn Monroe’s Website: http://www.ashlynnmonroe.com/

Can reality TV handle a reluctant superhero bachelor, ten attention-seeking women, and one evil villain?

Dina Dell’s career as a television producer has hit bottom. Desperate to save her job, she comes up with the idea for a reality show called I Want to Date a Superhero. But the only superhero bachelor she knows is the only man she’s ever loved—Zane Blair.

Zane was once a normal human, but a traumatic childhood incident mutated him, along with Dina’s sister and their friends. Dina was the only one who escaped without any superhero abilities. And while she might be the “normal” one, that only left her feeling like more of an outcast.

Her lack of powers put Zane in danger. Knowing that it was only a matter of time before someone used her to get to him, she left, breaking both their hearts in the process. After all the pain she caused him, will he be willing to help her now?

Then an old enemy emerges, putting Dina’s plans on hold. When her superhero friends are the ones who need help, Dina just might learn that sometimes little Miss Average can be a hero too.

Interview With Lucy Felthouse

By Cynthia Sax on June 27, 2013

I sat down (virtually) with Lucy Felthouse for a short interview. Lucy Felthouse writes hot erotic romances and her latest release is A French Affair.

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from A French Affair?

Lucy Felthouse: ‘I understand,’ she replied. ‘And I guess we should see how things go. I mean, we haven’t even kissed yet. You might be a lousy kisser!’

This is my favourite line because it’s so funny. It was one of those lines that literally just came to me as I was writing the scene and it made me giggle as I was typing it. I also love it because it sets things up for a wonderful reply from the hero that is so sexy it made me tingle. Hopefully it will have the same affect on readers.

Cynthia Sax: Where does A French Affair start?

Lucy Felthouse: My story starts as the heroine is writing the beginning of her novel. She’s using a laptop and is currently in a converted barn in a tiny village in Northern France. She’s suddenly interrupted by a cacophony of noise from next door (the barn is split into two) and it startles her, making her type a bunch of gobbledegook on the screen. I didn’t consciously set out to start it there. The story had been bubbling around in my head for ages before I actually got chance to write it, and when I sat down and started writing, that’s where it made sense to start. It’s right in the action and tells us something about the heroine right away.

Cynthia Sax: Where is A French Affair set?

Lucy Felthouse: The novella is set in Northern France. Mostly in a tiny village called Monthiers. Some of the action is also set in Paris. The setting of Monthiers isn’t exciting, or sexy, really. It’s a very quiet village which I’ve actually been to, which is where the idea came from. It’s what happens between the characters that is exciting and sexy.

Now, Paris on the other hand is both exciting and sexy. It’s my absolute favourite city (so far. I still have lots of travelling I want to do!), and since Monthiers isn’t too far away from the French capital, I thought it would be a nice idea for my characters to go on a day trip there. It was a wonderful excuse for me to write about my favourite city, and a very easy place to write about romance, fun, beauty and love.

Cynthia Sax: What creates conflict between Sydney and Harry?

Lucy Felthouse:
The heroine meets the owner of the accommodation she’s staying in and thinks he’s very sexy. However, she quickly notices he’s wearing a wedding ring. He flirts with her, and she’s not at all happy about it—she has absolutely no intention of getting involved with a married man and is determined to keep him at arm’s length.

Thank you, Lucy Felthouse, for joining us today!

Why Libraries Matter

By Cynthia Sax on June 25, 2013

I’m visiting Library Love Fest today

http://www.librarylovefest.com/

Library Love Fest is a HarperCollins’ blog reaching out to librarians and other library professionals.

Does this mean He Watches Me will be available in your library?

Maybe… if you request it. Talk to your local library, mention He Watches Me is a HarperCollins eBook release. I usually print out the Amazon listing and bring it to my librarians.

This isn’t the reason I asked to appear on Library Love Fest though. I asked to write a guest blog because librarians and libraries have made a big difference in my life. I wouldn’t be a writer if it hadn’t been for the librarians I met while I was a child.

Writing Workshop – Reader Expectations

By Cynthia Sax on June 25, 2013

I’m at Diana Hunter’s online home today, talking about reader expectations.

http://dianahunter.blogspot.ca/

I’ve given this free workshop for my local RWA chapter and am thrilled to be given this opportunity to share my crazy thoughts with more writers. IMHO… you MUST know what your reader expects when she or he picks up a story in your genre. You don’t have to give her/him what she/he expects but you should know what the expectations are.

The Seen Trilogy – First Scene

By Cynthia Sax on June 25, 2013

Excerpt time! Here are the first 800 words of He Watches Me.

***

I’m like a ghost. I drift aimlessly through the Leigh’s empty Beverly Hills mansion, my bare feet slapping against the painted gray concrete floor, shoes not allowed in the sprawling modern bungalow.

I’m not dead. I move the oversized, never-been-opened book staged on the chrome coffee table an inch to the right. I’m breathing. I flick one light on and turn another light off, maintaining the minimum required amount of illumination. I have a physical form. I rearrange some of the catalogues, creating the illusion that they have been recently placed on the modern glass table, all of the stores featured priced out of a new graduate’s budget. But I’m not living, not truly, and no one sees me … which is how I like it.

I tilt my head back and study one of the many life-sized portraits of Suzanna Leigh hanging on the walls. No one would dare look at Mrs. Leigh with disapproval. The plastic surgeon’s wife, with her blond hair, blue eyes, and big breasts, is the epitome of L.A. beauty. I’m not. I have brown hair, brown eyes, and a flat chest. I pluck at my faded pink camisole, the garment clinging to my small breasts, and I continue my stroll.

The sheer silver curtains billow in the night breeze, the windows cracked open in an attempt to alleviate the stifling heat. I can’t afford to turn the air-conditioning on. My agreement with the Leighs is to pay for the upkeep and utilities while they jaunt around Europe, straightening noses and increasing bra sizes. In exchange, I get a free place to stay.

A trickle of perspiration runs down my bare nape, my constantly frizzy hair pulled up into a ponytail. The digital wall clock buzzes midnight, and I should return to the tiny bedroom I’ve been assigned. Instead, I wander to the back door, seeking lower temperatures.

I slip my feet into a pair of scuffed baby blue flip-flops and slide the door open, venturing into the darkness. The scent of newly cut grass teases my nostrils, the gardeners having mowed during the day while I was at work.

Work. I sigh, looking out at the covered pool, wishing to swim, that indulgence denied to me by the Leighs. Who gets fired from a charity? I suspect this will be my fate tomorrow, my inability to raise donation money straining even my boss’s easygoing personality.

I impulsively grab the towel I had left drying on the deck railing and meander across the modern-art-littered lawn toward the wrought-iron gate, unconsciously moving closer to the property I’ve sworn never to trespass onto again. The soothing sound of falling water calls to me.

I gaze between the ornately crafted bars separating me from nirvana, the gate locked. Water cascades down rock into a naturally shaped pool, the feature blending into the purposefully wild backyard.

Only the pool is lit. The two-story house, its design as classic as the Leighs’, is contemporary, and is shrouded, as always, in darkness. I’m not surprised. I’ve seen Gabriel Blaine, its elusive and surprisingly young owner, only once in the three weeks I’ve been house-sitting.

That once made an impact. I had been fiddling with the finicky front door lock when the billionaire exited from a long black limousine. He paused, turned his head toward me, and our gazes met, his eyes brilliant green and hard, so very hard. Even the lock of ink-black hair falling over his forehead failed to soften his sharp chin and pronounced cheekbones.

My keys dropped from my lifeless fingers to the concrete steps and I froze, unable to breathe. Blaine’s lips twitched and he inclined his head toward me as though I had confirmed something he’d long suspected. I, idiot that I am, nodded back, agreeing to what? I don’t know.

Whatever I had agreed upon seemed to satisfy Blaine. He moved like a predator toward his rarely used mansion, his stride smooth and almost graceful. He disappeared into his home, closing the door behind him, and I haven’t seen him since.

I won’t see him today either, and it would be a shame not to use his gorgeously cool swimming pool. Trespassing is against the law but I am too much my father’s daughter to allow little things like laws stop me. I toss my towel over the fence and climb over the wrought iron, thanking my misspent youth on the rough streets of Detroit for developing this handy skill.

I pick up the towel and I pad to the edge of the pool, my flip-flops bending the grass as I walk. I pause and look around me, having the peculiar feeling someone is watching me.

I see nothing.
