Warlord’s Return

Ariq is a barbarian warrior seeking a war.

He locates that battle when he meets Xareni.

* * *

Ariq is one of Chamele’s top warriors. A genetic predisposition to fighting, paired with intensive training and experience, has honed the scarred male into an effective killing machine. He loves war, can’t live without combat.

The Succession Wars, however, have finally ended and the Chamele sector is now at peace. Seeking excitement and purpose, the barbarian warrior accompanies his Second to the Refuge, an outlaw settlement on Carinae E. He hopes to locate the battle he’s been craving there.

Ariq finds that conflict and more when he meets his fated mate.

Xareni owes the Ruler of the Refuge a favor. That’s the only reason she has returned to the settlement. She doesn’t like crowds or structures or a certain barbarian warrior who insists on following her everywhere. It doesn’t matter that there’s a connection between them, that he makes her burn with desire, that he looks at her with heat in his dark eyes.

She’s a monster and monsters don’t need anyone.

* * *

Warlord’s Return is a STANDALONE Alien Barbarian SciFi Romance featuring a determined barbarian warrior, an equally resolute human female, and an eyeball-eating mini dragon.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – August 23rd

By Cynthia Sax on August 23, 2020

Today, I’m working on the second round edits for Warlord’s Return, the next and the final story in the Chamele Barbarian Warlords series (releasing in November).

It is bittersweet working on these edits. I’m excited that you and other reading buddies will be returning with me to the Refuge, seeing Kralj, Dita and the other Modified Humanoids again, but I’m always sad to end a series. This is extra challenging as I will be stepping away from the Alien Romance Continuum for a while to focus on the cyborgs (but I’m SUPER stoked to be writing those stories).

This week, I’ll be taking a break from the fresh writing and revising some of the short stories for the next C.S. Sax collection. This next collection will focus on medieval dragon shifters also.

I was telling a writing buddy about my plans and she made a comment on how I must think medieval dragon shifters will be ‘hot’ in 2021.

I have NO clue about what will be the hot trends in Romance. None. (laughs)

If I HAD to guess, I would say vampires will make a big comeback in Paranormal Romance and light, happy alien romance premises like mail order brides will be popular in SciFi Romance. I’ll put this in writing and, at the end of 2021 (if I remember), we’ll determine if I was right. That will be fun.

I’m releasing collections of medieval dragon shifter stories because I’ve written quite a few of those stories for myself over the years. I love medieval dragon shifters.

I’m focusing on cyborgs next year because I’m eager to find out what happens in Power’s story and that requires writing the four other stories in the subseries first. I CAN’T WAIT to write the first story in the Rebel Cyborgs subseries. That story has been drumming at my brain for months.

If you’re a writing buddy, please don’t build your career around what I’m writing next. I have no insights on the future of Romance. I merely write what I want to write and release stories I think you might enjoy.

Testing Truth

A fun-loving cyborg gets serious about love.

***

Truth lives each moment as though it were his last. The cyborg warrior rushes into danger, teases beings he shouldn’t provoke, accepts every call of adventure he encounters.

When a prissy little human princess floats into the Rebel structure Truth is occupying, seeking a mercenary to assist her and her unusual entourage, he volunteers to be her warrior. She claims their assignment is dangerous, warns him he might not survive the task.

That is exactly the type of fun he has been seeking.

Princess Nanette of the planet Royaume must rescue her estranged brother from an enemy prison ship. That is her duty, and she has been trained to always place the needs of her planet and her subjects before her own. Nancy doesn’t have the freedom to indulge her passions for a certain dark-haired, gray-skinned cyborg. Not permanently and not publicly.

But she is unable to resist the warrior. Truth, with his laughing eyes, smiling lips, and rough hands, tempts her as no one else ever has. He could be her one fleeting act of rebellion before she’s matched with the powerful ruler her planet requires.

If they survive their current mission.

Their love is doomed. Their lifespans are at risk. This cyborg and his princess will need the help of every ally they have if they wish to see another sunrise.

Writers On Vacation

By Cynthia Sax on January 18, 2016

Recently, the dear wonderful hubby and I went on a (super cheap) cruise from Florida. One of the stops was the Dominican Republic. The cruise terminal was situated miles away from anywhere. We needed to take a taxi to town. To save money, we partnered with another couple.

We usually travel on the cheap, hiring a driver if that’s necessary (more often, we take public transportation or we hoof it) and that’s it. The wife of this couple, however, really wanted the history spiel. This was her first big trip and she wanted to know everything about the place.

She talked us into hiring a ‘guide’. This guide assured us that he knew his history and he could speak English well. We piled into the taxi and took off.

It turned out… he could only speak enough English to convince us that he knew the language. He had memorized short speeches about the big sites. His answer to every question was ‘Yes. Yes.’

The wife was disappointed. She became more and more upset, arguing with our ‘guide’. The dear wonderful hubby and I could tell that this blunder was wrecking her day, coloring her view of an otherwise wonderful country.

So we started peppering our so-called guide with ridiculous questions.

“Is it true that General Luperon died fighting the vampirous, ferocious blood drinking invaders from a nearby island?”

“Yes. Yes.” The guide bobbed his head.

“I read that today is take your chicken to work day.”

“Yes. Yes.” The guide nodded.

“I understand that depression in trees is common here, that they have tree doctors who try to lift their spirits.”

“Yes. Yes.”

Soon, the wife was smiling, laughing, joining in, asking equally ridiculous questions. At the end of the day, the husband said it was the most fun he’d ever had on a tour. We had an absolute blast.

Never question that reading and creativity is valuable. It can change a ‘disastrous’ day into one of the best ever.

Crash And Burn

Crash was manufactured to be one of the best warriors in the universe. The cyborg has spent many human lifespans fighting the enemy. But, unlike his battle-loving brethren, he doesn’t enjoy killing. When he escapes the Humanoid Alliance, he vows to never end another life.

Then he meets Safyre, an infuriating human female, and he considers breaking his vow.

Safyre will do anything to save her friend, the being she loves like a sister. She’ll ravish a huge hunky cyborg, kiss his best friend, and invoke scorching hot desires the male never realized he could feel. Dark soulful eyes, a quick wit, and a tempestuous passion won’t divert her from her mission.

Love, and a planet-destroying weapon, however, might stop her permanently.

Wayback Wednesday-Fangs In Frosting

By Cynthia Sax on July 31, 2013

Fangs In Frosting is the first short story in the humorous paranormal Fangs In series. I love Lottie, the curvaceous heroine, and Viktor, the overly serious vampire stalking her.

Fangs

Hi! My name is Charlotte, and I own the cupcake shop on the corner —
the sole dessert place open late in our neighborhood. My shop has quite a few regular customers but none are as devoted as Viktor — Mr. Tall, Dark, and Serious. I give him the special treatment, including extra sprinkles on the cupcakes he buys yet never eats, and offering him private tours of my walk-in pantry.

Viktor is a very kinky guy. I never see him before sundown, and he’s a biter. Yep, I did him, in the pantry, amongst the boxes of cupcake
wrappers and the bags of chocolate chips. During that encounter, he took a little nip out of luscious Lottie, that would be me, and tonight, he’s back for more. He says he has plans for me. I hope they don’t include clothes.

Cyn-Sights: Fangs In Fur And Fangs In Frosting

By Cynthia Sax on January 6, 2013

Some reading buddies have asked if Fangs In Fur (releasing January 17th) is related to Fangs In Frosting.

All of my stories can be read on their own (or out of order) but these two stories ARE in the same series.

Helena, the heroine of Fangs In Fur, makes a brief appearance in Fangs In Frosting. She gives Viktor the vampire recipe book.

In Fangs In Fur, we find out that Helena is the librarian… I mean archives administrator for the vampire council. That’s how she knew about the vampire recipe book.

Helena and Charlotte (or luscious Lottie) have become friends (who can resist Charlotte?) so Charlotte makes appearances throughout the story, being her usual bubbly happy self.

Nico, the scarred badass vampire from Fangs In Frosting, also makes an appearance in Fangs In Fur. He continues to gather favors.

So yes, Fangs In Fur can be read on its own, but readers of Fangs In Frosting will meet up with (VERY) old friends.

FANGS IN FUR
By Cynthia Sax
Coming Soon From Changeling Press
Fangs In Fur

I’m Helena and I’m no delicate flower, my rough touch making former paranormal lovers cry. I’m looking for someone big and strong and preferably not a wolf, especially not that alpha wolf I have stalking me.

I’m not attracted to him — no matter how wide his shoulders or how high his pain tolerance. I’m not that foolish. Lasting relationships between wolves and vampires are forbidden, and this male has the gleam of forever in his wild eyes. He is determined to make me his mate and that, I know, will break the fragile peace between our species.

There’s a thin, blood-red line between enemies and lovers. I’m about to cross it.
