Giving Back To Science
I rely heavily on the work and research of scientists in order to craft my stories. Many of these generous, wonderful people refuse to be compensated for their insights and their knowledge. They are helping SciFi Romance Writers because they love science and because they are giving, caring beings.
I tend to ‘sneakily’ give back to scientists by making donations to their favorite charities. I also donate a small portion of my book sales to ongoing science-based projects such as coral reef restoration and tree planting.
To date, for example, donations from the sales of my books have been responsible for the planting of approximately 253 coral fragments. We have also funded the planting of 450 trees around the world.

Murad, a technology-loving Chamele Warlord, has to track down and eliminate a rogue warrior before that male ends Murad’s reign. Permanently.

Cyborg Names
Cyborgs were viewed as machines by the Humanoid Alliance. They were given model numbers, a letter followed by a number, the equivalent of today’s serial numbers when they were manufactured. They weren’t given names.
(This has been a common tactic in human history. Beings are stripped of their names when others want to dehumanize them. It is often one of the steps before a genocide.)
Cyborgs gave themselves names. These names were verbal reminders that they were beings, not weapons. They mattered, were individuals, weren’t easily replaced.
But the names they could give themselves were extremely limited.
Cyborgs wouldn’t name themselves after their cruel human manufacturers. They would never name themselves Bob, for example, because a Bob had likely killed one or more of their brethren. They would never honor their tormentors like that.
Naming themselves after beings they killed wasn’t a good option either. Again, they wouldn’t honor the enemy by taking the enemies’ names.
As cyborgs live for a long time and they share all information, almost every ‘normal’ name – both human and humanoid – in existence was eliminated as a possibility.
Creativity isn’t the average cyborg’s strength. They didn’t create their own names. They merely took the names of objects or feelings or skills they felt represented them.
Rage, the hero of Releasing Rage, was often angry. Vapor, the hero of Breathing Vapor, had the ability to hide in the shadows, to disappear like vapor. Crash, the hero of Crash And Burn, tended to push his limits, overclocking himself and ‘crashing.’ Dissent, the hero of Dominance And Dissent, the November release, had to stifle his urge to fight their Humanoid Alliance masters.
As cyborgs are warriors, beings designed for battle, they tend to gravitate toward warlike names, terms associated with fighting and physical strength. It will be interesting to hear what names the freeborn cyborgs call their offspring as the cyborgs move from being focused completely on war to other activities like space exploration.

Cyborgs And Their Growing Love Of Food
One of the many, many things I love about writing the cyborg series is how their horizons are expanding with each story.
Food is one great example of this.
Cyborgs eat. They recharge their machine side by plugging into energy sources. They keep the organic part of their forms healthy by eating. (They rarely need to drink as that system is mostly closed.)
While the cyborgs were enslaved by the Humanoid Alliance (as they were at the beginning of the first series i.e. in Releasing Rage), they were fed tasteless yet nutrition packed nourishment bars.
That was all they knew. They didn’t realize food could taste good.
They had to eat. It was a task they had to complete. But it held no joy for them.
(Which I find so very sad as I LOVE food. I believe it is one of the great pleasures in life.)
Since the cyborgs have rebelled and are now free, they’re interacting with other beings in a deeper way. They’re finding their females, beings who come from different cultures. They’re traveling. This has exposed them to flavorful fruits and a vast variety of other foods.
They are really liking these new experiences. And because cyborgs share information, ALL of them are being introduced to tasty food.
Eating is becoming a pleasure for the cyborgs.
I’m excited about what this means for the future. I wouldn’t be surprised if, solar cycles and several series from now, there’s cyborg-fusion cuisine.

A fully functional cyborg is balanced. His machine half and his organic half work together to produce the perfect warrior.
Doc isn’t fully functional.
The G Model operates at the two extremes. When his machine is in complete control, he’s the logic-driven medic, saving lifespans. Once his organics take charge, he becomes the savage beast…and beings die.
Both sides of Doc want to be the first to claim his female.
Allinen is one of the few beings in her small settlement who wasn’t born with a fated mate. Determined to belong somewhere, she has crafted a plan to leave the planet.
That plan doesn’t involve a huge stormy-eyed male who alternates between cool seduction and out-of-control ravishment. Doc isn’t her fated mate. Allinen knows that. But his dual nature and forbidden embraces tempt her to forget forever and indulge in more immediate delights.
Neither side of Doc views their relationship as being temporary. Her conflicted cyborg is prepared to battle her family, her planet and death itself to keep her.

The Creatures In Doc’s Orders
Khambalia 5, the planet the cyborgs explore in Doc’s Orders, is home to some interesting and dangerous alien creatures.

The pahas are wolf-like creatures. They run in packs, see anything that moves as prey, sport sharp claws and teeth. Their coloring allows them to blend into the grayness of the planet’s landscape.
They aren’t the most intelligent creatures, however. Eating and breeding is about all they know and their language is primitive, consisting of barks and growls. They can’t be reasoned with.
Miljoonasuuts

The most dangerous creature on Khambalia 5 is the miljoonasuut, a creature that from the top or side looks like a giant pill bug (also known as a roly-poly, doodle bug or wood shrimp). The miljoonasuut’s exoskeleton is extremely tough. The cyborgs believe it can repel projectiles.
Miljoonasuuts have more in common with pill bugs than merely their appearance. Pill bugs, like miljoonasuuts, eat almost everything, including heavy metals.
Pill bugs can also thrive in places where other Earth species can’t. Miljoonasuuts live on Khambalia 5, a planet barely suitable for sustaining life.
Miljoonasuuts, however, have a few other adaptations. They’re large, bad-tempered, and fairly intelligent. They have multiple mouths with extremely sharp teeth on their undersides.
Miljoonasuuts have evolved to be some of the most dangerous predators in the universe. No one, excluding the cyborgs, mess with them.

Warlord’s Bounty
Wanted: One Barbarian Warrior.
The bigger the bounty, the more dangerous the target.
Khan, a Chamele Warlord, has a huge bounty on his head. His enemy wants him captured and is offering any being in the universe an outrageous number of credits to accomplish that.
Khan wants to be captured, but only if the being apprehending him is a tiny, brown-eyed female with wickedly sharp daggers and an even sharper tongue. His passion for the feisty human can’t be inhibited by restraints. He’ll allow her to subdue him…in a variety of enticing ways.
When she finally collects her credits, he’ll collect his revenge, killing his enemy and claiming his little bounty hunter forever.
Zeta doesn’t do forever. After a lifespan of chasing dangerous beings across galaxies, apprehending and trading them for credits, she doesn’t get involved emotionally…with anyone.
Khan might be fierce and sexy and the most dominant male she has ever encountered, but the barbarian is also her target, and once she sates herself with his body, she’ll betray him.
That’s her job.

Wanted: One Barbarian Warrior.

Khan, a Chamele Warlord, has a huge bounty on his head. His enemy wants him captured and is offering any being in the universe an outrageous number of credits to accomplish that.
Khan wants to be captured, but only if the being apprehending him is a tiny, brown-eyed female with wickedly sharp daggers and an even sharper tongue. His passion for the feisty human can’t be inhibited by restraints. He’ll allow her to subdue him…in a variety of enticing ways.
When she finally collects her credits, he’ll collect his revenge, killing his enemy and claiming his little bounty hunter forever.
Zeta doesn’t do forever. After a lifespan of chasing dangerous beings across galaxies, apprehending and trading them for credits, she doesn’t get involved emotionally…with anyone.
Khan might be fierce and sexy and the most dominant male she has ever encountered, but the barbarian is also her target, and once she sates herself with his body, she’ll betray him.
That’s her job.
