The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted QUITE a few vultures when we were trekking around Panama City.
We joked that they knew something we didn’t. And that something we were referring to was…death.
Vultures, in many societies, are considered harbingers of death. Likely because they often feast on dead things. They provide a valuable service to their environments and are essential for healthy surroundings. But many humans see them and think…death.
Mentioning a vulture in the distance in a scene will cause many readers to do the same. They will be expecting a death. As they will expect a death if a pale horse or a long black vehicle or a being in a black hooded cloak is mentioned. We can warn readers so they can subconsciously brace themselves for that event and it isn’t as much of a shock to them.

While attending a party, Kesser, the daughter of her planet’s leader, witnesses the abduction of her best friend and her best friend’s mate.

She’s also traveling to the next planet he has to search. He plans to claim his female while he fulfills his responsibilities to his kind.
Neither Strike nor Kesser realizes the dangers facing them are far greater than they imagine. Their enemies are converging, and one failed mission could doom the entire universe.
