Battle scenes and love scenes are very similar. They are often constructed with an action, followed by a physical reaction and usually an emotional reaction.
Something like…
He strokes her chest. She arches her back. Desire sweeps through her.
or
She swings her sword. He blocks the blow. Excitement courses through his circuits.
It reminds me of a game of chess. There’s a move. Then there’s a countermove.
When I’m stuck in a scene, I often jot down a random action and then I think how the other beings in that scene would react to it. That often gets my creativity flowing.
