March 15th (today!) corresponds to the Ides of March in the Roman calendar. Ides were originally the dates of the full moons.
The Feast of Anna Perenna was celebrated on the Ides of March. Anna Perenna was the Roman goddess protecting the year. Romans made sacrifices to her, trying to ensure their year was favorable. (And yes, I’m thinking we might need her assistance this year. – grins – We need all the help we can get.)
The Ides of March, however, is most well-known (thanks to William Shakespeare) as being the day Julius Caesar was assassinated. He was told by a seer (a haruspex named Spurinna) to “Beware the Ides of March.” And that prediction came true. He was stabbed to death during a meeting of the Senate.
