Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – August 18
Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November), is still with my Awesome Editor. This first set of edits/revisions take a while to complete so I don’t expect to receive it anytime soon.
I’m still chillaxing, gardening, SLEEPING (oh my stars, that is glorious), spending time with the Dear Wonderful Hubby, and completing not-very-exciting writer admin tasks.
And I’m starting to think about Grid Locked, the fourth story in the series. That story will be action-packed also. (grins) And chaotic. You know Grid. Chaos is what he does.

Gardening – Picking Tomatoes
The cherry tomatoes are ripening and every morning, the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I pick a few of them to devour during the day.
This is the Dear Wonderful Hubby’s favorite part of gardening. He LOVES harvesting the vegetables, berries and fruits at the peak of ripeness. And he debates with great passion and joy when that right time is. (grins) Then he likes to eat our harvest in the same day.
Harvest time is a happy time in the Sax household. (smiles)

Muse Food – If All Humans Disappeared
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this flower vine-covered building in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
One of the exercises I undertake when my muse isn’t feeling inspired is to go somewhere, it could be my backyard (most likely) or halfway across the planet (extremely rarely), and ask myself, “What would this place look like if all humans disappeared tomorrow? What would nature do if she was allowed to retake the land?”
It wouldn’t revert to what it was before humans. We’ve changed the planet permanently. I suspect it would be a bit of a mix…like this building is.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – August 11
Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November), is still with my Awesome Editor. I don’t expect to receive first round revisions and edits for a couple more weeks.
While I wait, I think…well…for this upcoming week anyway, I’ll rest and relax. I’ll putter around the garden with the Dear Wonderful Hubby, admiring the butterflies and the bees. I’ll read and watch movies.
And I’ll also complete the gazillion unexciting administrative tasks that comes with being a self-published writer. My life isn’t all blowing up planets and crafting sexy scenes, unfortunately. (laughs)

Stepmoms, Childless Cat Ladies And Other Wonderful People
Stepmoms are Moms. Giving birth is a miracle and an act of love but it is a tiny part of being a great Mom.
Childless cat ladies are awesome. They are some of the happiest, most giving people I’ve ever met.
Frag. Loving another being, any being at all, is an act of emotional bravery.
We go into that knowing we’re risking a piece of our heart yet we still do that anyway.
Because we’re amazing. (big hugs)
Love makes the universe worth living in.
And showing love to any being, anything should be applauded.

Drift Would And World-Enders
When the cyborgs first discovered the Humanoid Alliance, their enemies, had manufactured a World-Ender, a weapon that could destroy an entire planet within a mere moment, I wondered how they could produce such a weapon.
Power like that doesn’t appear out of thin air. It comes from something.
We learn in Drift Would that an even more powerful weapon is being manufactured on Cancri B. The power for that weapon comes from a substance found deep within the planet. It was likely stored there during the creation of Cancri B.
That energy had to go somewhere.
It is…fitting, I guess you would say, that the substance that created the planet now has the ability to destroy it.

Gardening – Practice Years
This is the first year we grew eggplant and squashes.
The zucchini gave us produce. The eggplant and the butternut squash have absolutely nothing on the vine.
We made mistakes.
We started the eggplant too late. Then we didn’t realize that our wild bunny would love eating the plants.
With the butternut squash, we didn’t prune some of the male flowers to allow more female flowers to bud.
We also had weather issues. It was cool and damp and all the butternut squash female flowers that DID form rotted off.
I’m disappointed but this lack of production isn’t a surprise. The first year of growing anything is, what I think of as, a practice year. Mistakes will happen. Plants will die. Other plants won’t produce.
We’ve learned and it should be a little better growing year next year.
