Muse Food – Curaçao’s Punda Love Hearts And Showing Our Love

By Cynthia Sax on January 19, 2026

There was a sculpture in Curaçao called the Punda Love Hearts. Lovers would place a lock on one of its three hearts and throw away the key.

So many people did this that the structure collapsed.

How do the characters in your stories show love? Do they cook for their loved ones? Slay demons for them? Tend to them when they’re hurt? Say inappropriate things? Bump into furniture around them?

And do their loved ones KNOW it is love they’re trying to express?

Muse Food – The Presents We Give

By Cynthia Sax on December 22, 2025

Tis the season for giving and receiving presents or gifts.

(smiles)

The presents we give often say more about us than the presents we receive.

The Dear Wonderful Hubby, for example, loves to give food as presents because he loves feeding people. He loves taking care of his loved ones, ensuring they are okay at least food-wise. And he sees meals as a social event.

A protective hero, as another example, might give gifts that allow him to safeguard his loved ones. He’d give the car-free heroine limo vouchers so she never has to walk home in the dark. Or he’d give his warrior heroine a state-of-the-art shield to defend herself. Or he’d give his scientist heroine the best protective eyewear available.

What is your hero or heroine giving their loved ones?

The Gorge And Building A Romance Without Dialogue

By Cynthia Sax on December 19, 2025

Spoiler Alert – This post will talk about The Gorge and it WILL contain spoilers. If you haven’t yet watched this awesome SciFi Romance movie, you might wish to skip this post.

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I recently watched The Gorge.

I LOVED it.

This is a true SciFi Romance in movie form, with the expected Romance Ending. You and I know how very rare these movies are. And this one is terrific.

I laughed. I worried through the dark moment. I believed the relationship would last…forever.

And this was done with a lot of that relationship not having any dialogue. Or having any direct physical connection.

Because the hero and the heroine are separated by an almost impassable gorge for much of the movie.

They communicate with white boards i.e. the written word, which, as a reader, I loved. And they communicate through movement.

We saw how they think similarly in many ways and how their differences in personality complement each other. And this is brilliantly done.

The Gorge is a must watch for writers who want to SHOW how a relationship builds.

Buy A Holiday Gift Today

By Cynthia Sax on November 22, 2025

I’ve completed all of my (known) holiday gift buying.

I always do this early because the holidays are hectic in the Sax household and I like to take my time with buying gifts. I like to relax and enjoy it.

I also have some loved ones, like my Awesome Mom, who worry every year that they won’t receive any gifts. They worry they’ll be forgotten.

My Awesome Mom already has her tree up. My presents to her are, right now, under the tree. She can look at them any time she wants and be reassured she hasn’t been forgotten.

Consider buying one of your holiday gifts for a loved one (and this can be for yourself – you deserve love also!) today. Future you will be grateful. And your loved ones will feel loved.

The Mummy (Brendan Fraser And Rachel Weisz) And Action Heroes Expressing Love

By Cynthia Sax on August 8, 2025

Spoiler Alert – This post will talk about The Mummy (Brendan Fraser And Rachel Weisz Version), and it WILL contain spoilers. If you haven’t yet watched this awesome action/romance movie, you might wish to skip this post.

I’ve been finding serenity and joy in rewatching some of my favorite movies.

The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser And Rachel Weisz is definitely one of those. It has action and adventure, Egypt and mummies.

And it has love.

The Mummy is a romance, a true romance. There is a romantic happy ever after that would make any romance reader happy.

(smiles)

Rick O’Connell is a romance hero.

He is also an action hero.

And he shows his growing affection for Evy in a variety of ways.

He kisses her during their first meeting. Yes, he believes he’ll soon die but all that does, I believe, is push him to act on his feelings.

Which is love at first sight.

(And that feeling is clearly mutual.)

He steals the excavation tools to give to her.

We suspect he doesn’t know what all those tools are used for but the dig is important to Evy so it becomes important to him.

And he will do anything to ensure she is successful and happy.

Rick also protects her. Numerous times.

His first thought is of her. He puts her safety above his own.

My favorite statement of his feelings, however, is…

When everyone is sitting around a fire at Hamunaptra, Evy approaches them and Rick tells the guy beside him, “You’re in her seat.”

THAT is a declaration of love.

Evy’s ‘seat’ is by Rick’s side.

Always.

As equals. Wherever they might be. In whatever situation they’re in.

The Mummy (Brendan Fraser And Rachel Weisz Version) is often held up by romance readers as a wonderful romance movie for a reason – it follows all the rules of romance.

That makes me happy. It might make you happy also.

And I’d like you to be happy, my friends.

(smiles)

Take Every Opportunity To Celebrate

By Cynthia Sax on June 20, 2025

One of our much beloved uncles has dementia. He doesn’t remember names. And he doesn’t recognize very many loved ones now.

But he does recognize love when he sees it.

And he LOVES going to parties. That brings him great joy.

So his family has been throwing parties for any reason they can derive.

We recently attended a 100 day celebration for one of this uncle’s great-grandchildren. This is a new celebration for the family. (smiles) But everyone who could attended showed up.

Because we knew what the celebration was truly about.

And hey, it IS a celebration. I think we should celebrate as many things as much as possible. Stars. Being alive is worthy of celebration!

Create a celebration. Host a party or go out to dinner or stay at home and eat an ice cream cone while wearing your pajamas!

Gardening – Growing Green Beans And Showing Love

By Cynthia Sax on March 25, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby’s Awesome Father had some health scares last summer. He lost the urge to eat for a little bit.

He, however, LOVES green beans. We always grow some for him. And last year, we ensured we had plenty of plants producing fresh green beans all summer long.

He ate those green beans because he loves the taste of them AND because he knew we grew them especially for him. And he loves us. As we love him.

(smiles)

Growing our loved ones’ favorite vegetables and fruits is a wonderful…and tasty way to show love.
