Celebrate Back To School
It is September 1st.
I will always associate September with Back To School.
I love learning new things. I love snazzy new pens and pencils and not-yet-written-in notebooks. I love backpacks. They are portable organizers for our books and school supplies.
And I love the idea that everything ‘starts’ again in September. In school, I’d be in a new grade with a new-to-me teacher and maybe some new classmates. I could be a new me with those people. (smiles)

Back To School Backpacks
One of the things the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I do every year is donate at least one new backpack to the Little Free Library.
Sometimes we receive these backpacks from companies as schwag or some other giveaway. Sometimes we buy the backpack.
Then we leave it, with a sign ‘Free To A Good Home’ attached to it, before 3pm on a school day at the Little Free Library closest to the nearest primary school. Kids get out shortly after that time. And the backpack is always picked up the first day by someone.
One year, I was fortunate to see the kid who picked up the backpack. The little boy had a clearly done-at-home haircut. His clothes were worn yet clean. He was carrying his books and papers in his hands.
Yes, folks, he didn’t have ANYTHING to carry his books in.
His female guardian (likely his Mom) saw the backpack first. The relief on her face was palpable. She gave it to the boy.
The boy cheered, lifting it above his head like it was a trophy he’d won.
Children like this boy is why we donate these backpacks. We changed two lives that day. And that was so simple and easy to do.

Back To School Supplies Happiness
I LOVE school supplies.
When I was a kid, we didn’t have any money for anything other than the cheapest, most necessary supplies. So I would look at catalogs for school supplies and dream of all the pens and notebooks and markers I would buy once I was ‘rich.’
Today, I can afford some of those school supplies. And I’m a writer so those supplies are often necessary. Different colored inks, for example, stimulate different parts of our brains. I use them when the words aren’t flowing.
So I’ve been dreaming of school supplies. (grins) I plan to buy a huge pack of PaperMate Flair felt tip pens in a variety of awesome colors and, of course, a couple new notebooks.
