Throwback Thursday – Crash And Burn
Crash And Burn is a love it or hate it type of story. Some readers say it is their favorite story. Some readers have very different opinions.
And the reason for that is…very sad things happen in it. The main couple have their romantic happy ever after. But a beloved secondary character doesn’t.
It was the toughest story I’ve ever written. But it had to be told because it serves as a catalyst for much of the action in future stories. And it does represent war. It shows what almost every warrior has gone through…during training and during battle.
Crash was manufactured to be one of the best warriors in the universe. The cyborg has spent many human lifespans fighting the enemy. But, unlike his battle-loving brethren, he doesn’t enjoy killing. When he escapes the Humanoid Alliance, he vows to never end another life.
Then he meets Safyre, an infuriating human female, and he considers breaking his vow.
Safyre will do anything to save her friend, the being she loves like a sister. She’ll ravish a huge hunky cyborg, kiss his best friend, and invoke scorching hot desires the male never realized he could feel. Dark soulful eyes, a quick wit, and a tempestuous passion won’t divert her from her mission.
Love, and a planet-destroying weapon, however, might stop her permanently.

Crash And Burn is the toughest story I’ve ever written.
It was necessary for the series. The events in Raw Desires wouldn’t have happened if the events in Crash And Burn hadn’t occurred. Gap’s situation changed how every cyborg warrior viewed their lifespans and searched for their potential genetic matches.
But it is definitely a three tissue read.
In my stories, main couples (and more) will always receive their happy EVER afters. Other characters are at risk.
I hope never to write another story like Crash And Burn, however. I’m still recovering, years later, from the experience. (sheepish grin) It was…a LOT.

Crash And Burn is the perfect book to read if you need a good cry, if turbulent emotions are building inside of you and you want to expel them in private so you can be strong for others in public.
I use romance novels ALL the time to manage my emotions. And it works for me! It is like an emotional cleansing.
Crash And Burn was a challenging story to write and I hope not to write another one like it…well…ever but it was necessary.

Crash and Burn is the most emotionally grueling story I’ve ever written. It tore my heart out while crafting it and many reading buddies felt a similar way while reading it. This story is a three hanky read.
But it is a special story. Crash and Burn is a romance so, of course, it has a happy ever after for the main characters. Crash and Safyre have a unique relationship and a love tested by adversity. They battle against the odds and they also tend battle each other. (grins) They’re both strong-willed and have their own missions to complete.
Rage and Joan from Releasing Rage make a brief appearance in this story, as do many other cyborgs and their females.
