Swans In Stavanger, Norway

By Cynthia Sax on November 18, 2025

If you love swans, as I do, you’ll likely love Stavanger, Norway.

They were EVERYWHERE, even in places they shouldn’t be (which was often obstructing traffic – grins). And they were GORGEOUS.

They can definitely be found near less boat traffic heavy bodies of water.

Stavanger, Norway Street Art

By Cynthia Sax on October 21, 2025

Stavanger is known as the street art capital of Norway. They host a huge celebration of street art every year.

And their streets are filled with art.

Everywhere.

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I walked as much as we could and looked for the street art. It was a fun way to spend part of the day.

Gamle Stavanger, Norway

By Cynthia Sax on October 14, 2025

When the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were in Stavanger, Norway, we trekked around Gamle Stavanger, which is the older part of the town.

Stavanger is one of the oldest settlements in Norway. Some of the houses in old town date back to the 18th Century.

There are cobblestone streets and beautiful gardens. It was a lovely way to spend part of our visit.

Muse Food – Ledaal, Norway And Introducing Characters

By Cynthia Sax on October 13, 2025

Our first sight of Ledaal, a magnificent historical Royal home in Stavanger, Norway took our breaths away.

The long pathway, the framing of the trees, the gates (not shown in the photo), all of it was carefully designed to do exactly that. It wasn’t accidental. It was orchestrated to relay awe and wonder.

We, writers, should be as deliberate and careful when we introduce heroes and heroines and other key characters in our stories. First impressions are lasting impressions. And this is as true on the page as it is in real life.

How do you want your characters to be perceived?

Ensure a reader’s first meeting with them reflects that.

Briksdal Glacier And Jostedal Glacier National Park, Norway

By Cynthia Sax on October 7, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I visited Briksdal Glacier in Jostedal Glacier National Park during one of our stops in Northern Norway.

The trek by foot to the glacier is super easy but it takes a bit of time. There are trolleys called ‘Troll Cars’ for folks who are in more of a rush or who can’t walk that distance.

The National Park is more than just the glacier. There are a gazillion glacier fed waterfalls, rapids, rivers and even a lake at the base of the glacier.

And the scenery is amazing. It was green and lush. The birds were singing. It was a beautiful hike.

By Cynthia Sax on September 16, 2025

Skjolden, Norway is a lovely little town in Northern Norway.

It is situated at the end of the worlds longest and deepest fjord. The sail in was gorgeous.

And the scenery was amazing.

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I trekked to one of the larger waterfalls and went for a walk in the countryside, looking at nature and some of the farms.
