A little girl walking to school with an adult was absolutely amazing by it. She chattered about it being SO big, about it being huggable, asked if people kept their toys in it. Her questions were adorable. And the adult patiently explained that it was a screen from ‘the olden days.’
The world you’re building in your stories will also have technology and other items from ‘the olden days.’ What happens to those items? Are they valued? Are they trashed? Are they ridiculed? Are they held up as examples of how the society has progressed?
How things from ‘the olden days’ are handled will relay a lot about your world.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – January 5
I might be taking a break from publishing stories (how long this break will be depends on the political climate) but that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped creating stories…in my mind. (grins) The escapades continue. The characters still speak to me. The flow of creativity can’t be turned off. It is always there.
I’ve also been planning the 2025 gardens. And doing taxes. Ugh. (eyeroll) And spending time with the Dear Wonderful Hubby.

The Little Moments
I was rereading Sinful Rewards, the 12 novella contemporary romance serial I wrote for Avon years ago. The heroine, Bee, thinks, at first, that a certain high profile once-in-a-lifetime event will be key to her happiness.
She uncovers that it is the little moments in life that drive joy. It could be holding the hand of the person she loves. Or riding fast on the back of a motorcycle. Or making macaroni and cheese for friends.

Gardening – Seed Starting
It is January and I’m getting ready to sow seeds in the basement grow station.
(grins)
I’m super excited about this! Watching baby plants poke their little green heads out of the soil is one of my absolute favorite parts of gardening. It is a visual representation of hope and I think we need more of that in this wonderful world.
I am starting, likely at the end of the month, with the slow growing plants – a couple mini pepper plants and a whole lot of eggplant plants.
Then at the end of February, I’ll sow tomato and marigold seeds.
At the end of March, I’ll sow zucchini, butternut squash and pea seeds.

Cyborgs were designed to be warriors. That was their only value to and function for the Humanoid Alliance. The cyborgs who survived the brutal training and the following battles are all skilled at waging war.

Saying Farewell To 2024
2024 was an action-packed year.
I published three cyborg romances – Strike Zone, Drift Would, and Claiming Cure.
Due to Project 2025 in the US, I ended the Dauntless Cyborgs series early and have paused publishing new stories. That was super dramatic. (winces) But it was necessary and I was able to provide you with a solid series ending.
I read some amazing romance novels written by other writers this year. The skill and storytelling happening now is out-of-this-world good.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I traveled. We had some planned and some not-planned adventures.
We gardened and had the BEST YEAR IN DECADES for butterflies and bees and other critters in our part of the universe. That was a gift.
2024 certainly wasn’t all sunshine and cute kittens. No year ever is. But we had fun and we consider ourselves to be fortunate to have experienced it. (smiles)

Muse Food – Ducks At Universal Studios
A few years ago, the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were trekking around Universal Studios in Florida. The Dear Wonderful Hubby teased me because we were surrounded by superheroes and fantastical rides and amazing displays and I would get super excited when I spotted wildlife.
Like these sleeping ducks. (smiles) Aren’t they adorable?
We look for what we are trained to see. A warrior sees threats and possible danger. A medic sees wounds and illnesses to be cured. I see wildlife.

I’ve been sleeping in, reading a LOT, and spending time with the Dear Wonderful Hubby and other loved ones. (big happy sigh) It has been GLORIOUS.
This upcoming week should, hopefully, be as relaxing. I didn’t realize how much I needed to unwind until I did it. Isn’t that usually the way? (laughs)

For The Love Of Soft Gingerbread

I LOVE soft gingerbread cookies. Every year in the past, I’ve sent the Dear Wonderful Hubby out on a quest to find store-bought soft gingerbread cookies. In recent years, he has been unsuccessful.
This year, my diet is low carb and I knew it would be impossible to find low carb soft gingerbread cookies.
So I made some.
And you know what? It was super easy! And they were GOOD.
Yes, all these years, I could have been making soft gingerbread cookies myself. I would have saved the Dear Wonderful Hubby from a time-consuming quest and myself from disappointment!
(laughs)
I’m such a dumba$$.
Sometimes we need to be pushed out of our comfort zones.
And that ends up being a very good (and delicious) thing.
