Cyborgs And Malicious Compliance

By Cynthia Sax on February 14, 2025

This excerpt is from Taking Vengeance

“A projectile to my head knocked me unconscious, and your brethren thought I was dead.” Battling the urge to touch him, she placed her hands on her hips, a defiant and safe stance. “That’s the only reason I’m alive now.”

“Cyborgs can sense lifeforms.” He stepped closer to her. “My brethren knew you were alive.”

They were aware she had survived. She blinked. “Then why didn’t they finish me off?”

He shrugged. “The humans wouldn’t have known you were alive.”

The cyborgs were skilled in malicious compliance.

(grins)

While under the Humanoid Alliance’s control, they couldn’t disobey direct orders, not without dying and causing the additional deaths of their brethren, but they certainly didn’t volunteer to expend one nanocybotic worth of effort more than that.

They didn’t try to ‘fix’ the faults within the Humanoid Alliance’s systems.

They didn’t fight rebels they weren’t directed to fight.

They didn’t hide Humanoid Alliance weaknesses.

They followed stupid, battle-losing orders, processing they were stupid, battle-losing orders.

They marched into battle as slowly as they could and did a gazillion other small things to hinder the Humanoid Alliance’s efforts.

(They only killed rebel children because they were ORDERED to also kill rebel children.)

Malicious Compliance is a VERY effective form of rebellion. It safeguards the usually entrenched rebel while hindering the baddies’ efforts. And if everyone uses this tactic, baddies eventually lose.

Taking Vengeance Cyborg Romance

Taking Vengeance

The only force stronger than their hate is their love.

Vengeance hates all humans. They killed every being he ever cared about. When the huge C Model cyborg is told he’s genetically compatible with the enemy, he makes it his mission to capture the female and use her to expel all humans from his home planet. That should be disappointingly easy. She’s a weak, fragile human.

Then she blows up his ship, blasting to bits his preconceived notions about the enemy.

Astrid, aka the Buoir Berserker, hates all cyborgs. They killed her entire clan, including her baby sister. The warrior female has vowed to hunt down and destroy the enemy. When a savage cyborg arrogantly puts his hard, sexy body within her reach, she does the only thing a female can do—she peppers his muscular physique with projectiles.

The more passionately they fight, the stronger their attraction becomes. Neither of them will relent on their missions, yet they can’t keep their hands off each other. Their battle will either end in love to last an eternity or in death.

Taking Vengeance is a STAND-ALONE story.
It is also an enemies-to-lovers Cyborg SciFi Romance set in a dark, gritty, often violent universe.

Uses For Yard Waste

By Cynthia Sax on February 11, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I, when we first moved into our home, would, every two weeks, send our yard waste, our tree trimmings and pulled plants and other natural debris, off to the city for composting.

We would then have to fertilize our yard AND add soil to it. Both the nutrients and a portion of the soil were being depleted.

Because we were sending those nutrients and other components to the soil to the city for composting.

Yard waste is basically our land in another form. Trees, grass and other plants take from the soil while they grow.

When we ship yard waste off site, we’re giving away our land, land we worked hard to obtain.

We stopped doing that. (sheepish grin)

Now, we compost all the yard waste that we can. That compost is returned to garden beds and the rest of the yard.

We bury the big tree limbs or prunings in the yard (this is called Hügelkultur), building back up our land. This is especially useful to improve gradients, especially around the house.

We don’t bag our grass clippings. (And we haven’t had to fertilize the lawn since doing this.)

Leaves are stacked high on garden beds over the Winter. They serve as leaf mulch in the Spring. And gradually break down to feed the soil. We haven’t used additional fertilizers, other than our own compost and coffee grounds we obtained from coffee shops for free, on our garden beds since doing this.

Our yard is more of a closed system now. What is used is returned to it. (The little that can’t be returned is offset by food scraps, coffee grounds and leaves we obtained from other places.)

And our yard has benefited greatly from this change!

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – February 9

By Cynthia Sax on February 9, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this gorgeous cat while we were trekking around Dubai.

(smiles)

I won’t be linking to B&N’s online bookstore going forward. They have, thus far, delisted 33 of my 69 titles. Will B&N delete more of my stories? I don’t know.

(big sigh)

What does that mean for future releases?

Everything is on hold. For now. Because I don’t know what the future will look like, my friends. (shrugs)

But I AM wishing you an absolutely wonderful week. (big hugs) Read some steamy romance novels. Savor every word, every man titty-fabulous cover. (grins) Enjoy the NOW, the present. Carve out some happiness in this fantastical ever-changing world. You deserve it!

Cyborg Sizzle Escape Omnibus – The First Collection

By Cynthia Sax on February 8, 2025

As I’ve recently released the third Cyborg Omnibus/Collection, I thought I’d also spotlight the first omnibus.

If you already have the individual stories, there is nothing new to you in this collection.

But if you’re new to my cyborgs, this is an excellent way to catch up on the stories and have them all in one place.

(smiles)

Plus the cover, crafted by Amanda Kelsey, is gorgeous!

Cyborg Sizzle Escape Omnibus

Half Man. Half Machine. All Theirs.
* * *
While these cyborg warriors battle to escape their cruel manufacturers, they find the human females they are destined to love for all eternity.
This omnibus includes the first seven stories in the Cyborg Sizzle series: Releasing Rage, Breathing Vapor, Being Green, Crash And Burn, Defying Death, Chasing Mayhem and Jumping Barrel.
All of these Cyborg Romances are set in a dark, gritty, often violent universe.

Releasing Rage

Rage, the Humanoid Alliance’s most primitive cyborg, has two goals–kill all of the humans on his battle station and escape to the Homeland. The warrior has seen the darkness in others and in himself. He believes that’s all he’s been programmed to experience.
Until he meets Joan.

Breathing Vapor

Vapor is the most advanced cyborg the Humanoid Alliance has ever developed. He’s a finely honed weapon, a warrior without parallel, half man and half machine. No lock can contain him. No being can stop him. Whatever he wants, he takes.
He wants Mira Breazeal, the Designer’s daughter.

Being Green

Green, a cyborg warrior, cares for one being—his plant Windy. When Windy becomes sick, he’ll do anything to heal her, even venture across the universe to visit a worlds-renowned plant doctor.
He doesn’t expect to find love.

Crash And Burn

Crash was manufactured to be one of the best warriors in the universe. The cyborg has spent many human lifespans fighting the enemy. But, unlike his battle-loving brethren, he doesn’t enjoy killing. When he escapes the Humanoid Alliance, he vows to never end another life.
Then he meets Safyre, an infuriating human female, and he considers breaking his vow.

Defying Death

Cyborgs don’t show emotion. Death learned that lesson early in his long lifespan. To survive, he hides his fierce passions behind a stoic wall. He calls no warrior friend. He never admits to caring for any being.
Even the human female he’s destined to love.

Chasing Mayhem

Mayhem has spent his lengthy lifespan obeying the Humanoid Alliance’s rules. Finally free from their cruel control, the cyborg warrior plans to cause chaos. He infiltrates a remote settlement, provokes the savage locals until they want him dead, and allows himself to be captured by the sexiest little Retriever he has ever laid his mechanically-enhanced eyes on.

Jumping Barrel

Barrel requires an Expert for the Tau Cetian orphans. He’s looking for a female who is willing to commit to a lifespan-long role, who is comfortable with moving off planet, and who, preferably, has the ability to speak the offsprings’ first language.
His female, however, is looking for a hero.

Some Upcoming Rereleases

By Cynthia Sax on February 7, 2025

I was rereading some of my older Alien Romances. They were originally published by Ellora’s Cave.

And you know what?

They are so much fun!

I think we all need some fun right now. So I’m working with my awesome cover artist. She’ll craft some covers. (This crafting will take many months.) And I’ll likely publish some of these stories in the summer or early fall/autumn, starting with the Moonbeam series.

These stories will be bundled as they are shorter. (Amazon prefers that ‘stories’ be priced above a certain price point and I want to give reading buddies good value for that price point). I plan to bundle two of the stories in each edition.

Why am I rereleasing stories instead of releasing new stories?

Because the editing has already been completed on these stories. That time, effort and expense (80% of my production costs involve the editing process) isn’t necessary. I’m still taking a risk, hoping that steamy stories will continue to be available in the summer or fall/autumn of 2025, but it isn’t a HUGE risk.

And it might make someone out there happy. (smiles) I would like that.

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this pretty kitty while we were trekking around Dubai.

The corporate tax returns are DONE! Whew! That is NOT my favorite part of this awesome career. That is for certain! But they’ve been completed for the year and I’m thankful for that.

I’ve decided to put together a third Cyborg World Omnibus. I already have the cover (which is GORGEOUS and deserves to be seen). It will feature already released stories. The Dear Wonderful Hubby formats my stories and omnibuses for free. And someone might enjoy it.

Hey, why not?

(grins)

Have a wonderful week, my friend. (big hugs) Do you have something – a cover, workout gear, a can of soup – you’re not using? Consider using it or give it away to someone else who will use it. Put that positive energy out into the universe!

Twisters And Sequels

By Cynthia Sax on January 31, 2025

Spoiler Alert – This post will talk about Twisters and it WILL contain spoilers. If you haven’t yet watched this film, you might wish to skip this post.

I watched Twisters recently and I enjoyed it. I doubt I’d watch it again but it had fun moments, some great (yet very much fictional) tornado scenes.

And it was a fresh take on the original story. It was promoted as a sequel but there has been 28 long years between the first one and this second one and…the writers reused much of story and character arcs.

The story of the young heroine touched tragically by tornados and skilled in that science is familiar. Her reluctance to help is familiar. The experiments she is involved in are familiar.

But that’s okay. Because most of the viewership is new. And I, part of the established viewership, enjoyed the similarities. I liked that I knew what to expect and got exactly that.

Sequels don’t have to be 100% new to be worth publishing/producing.

Reuse In Gardening

By Cynthia Sax on January 28, 2025

Last week, I mentioned I reuse used yogurt containers (cleaned, with holes punched in the bottoms) as seedling pots and I also reuse used rotisserie chicken trays (cleaned) as trays to hold those pots.

I do this to save money but also to get one more use out of the ‘garbage’ the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I create.

Gardening is a GREAT way to reduce waste.

We break down brown cardboard boxes for composting or place them on top of garden beds overwinter. We use the flyers made from newspapers to craft fast, easily biodegradable pots we can simply plop into the ground. Old pipes from the recent solar installation are being used as plant stakes. Juice jugs become watering jugs.

Of course, anything that can be composted (tree branches, leaves, bamboo forks, etc) is composted or buried in the ground for makeshift hügelkultur.

Every piece of garbage we create, we look at and ask ourselves if it can serve us in the garden (or in other areas of our lives). This is a small way we try to make a little bit of a difference.

Have a wonderful week, my friends! (tackle hugs) I hope it is a sleep-filled one for you also. Take care of yourself. Drink some water. Get some fresh air. Laugh and love and LIVE. Treasure your time on this fantastical planet!

IF And Having A Support System

By Cynthia Sax on January 24, 2025

Spoiler Alert – This post will talk about IF and it WILL contain spoilers. If you haven’t yet watched this film, you might wish to skip this post.

I didn’t have any interest in watching IF. A film about imaginary friends didn’t appeal to me.

I am one of six kids and I am also an extreme introvert. As a child, I certainly wasn’t inventing more people to spend time with. (grins)

But IF was playing on repeat on the cruise ship’s movie channel and…I got sucked in.

THREE times.

Because, stars, this movie was AWESOME. I laughed my a$$ off. AND I cried so hard.

The film could be interpreted in a variety of ways. I viewed it as an exploration of the importance of support systems.

We need them. Even if it means inventing imaginary support systems and beings.

And when we lose them, that could be through the death of a support being or growing up and getting too busy to maintain or believe in our support systems, it impacts us. Greatly.

The characters in our stories need support systems also. Sure, they might go it alone for a few scenes. But they eventually need to either establish a new support system or touch base with an existing one.

Because we, humans, need support systems. Even if they are all in our minds.

Claiming Cure

A proud cyborg medic meets his human match.

***

Cyra has tasks to complete before she dies.

There are patients to heal, a dangerous mission to undertake, and a world to save. She doesn’t have time to entertain uninvited guests.

Especially one coldhearted cyborg medic who thinks he’s better than her.

The male might be breathtakingly handsome. His sternly set lips might be extremely kissable. And his touch might draw out a passion she didn’t think she was capable of feeling.

But he’s also a distraction, one that might doom millions of innocent beings to a painful, horrible death.

Cure isn’t emotionless. He feels…greatly. Listening to that malfunction has caused other beings pain and suffering in the past.

He refuses to allow his desires to cloud his judgment now.

His resolve is tested when he’s forced to associate with the most provoking, alluring medic in the universe.

Cyra is his genetic match, the one being in the universe he is fated to protect, touch, claim. She’s clever and beautiful, and the need to hold her almost downs his systems.

But now is not the time to indulge his great wanting.

Cure has an assignment to complete.

If he fails to accomplish his goals, everyone he cares for, including his human female, will die.

***

Claiming Cure is a standalone Cyborg SciFi Romance set in a dark, gritty, sometimes-violent universe.

It features two skilled medics determined to ignore the toe-curling attraction between them, a perilous impossible mission, and foes seeking to ensure they never heal another being ever again.
