Starting Seeds
Gardening season at the Sax household has officially begun! Woot!
I’ve sowed tomato, marigold and pea plant seeds in the basement grow station. Peas, radishes, and spinach have been sowed directly in the garden as they are all cool weather plants.
My focus this year, vegetable-wise, will be tomatoes, beans, butternut squash and zucchini (courgettes). I think of these as our survival crops. The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I could likely live on them if that was necessary (we hope it is never necessary), especially as squash and bean leaves are edible (when prepared correctly).

Meg 2: The Trench And Expectations
Spoiler Alert – This post will talk about Meg 2: The Trench and will contain spoilers. If you haven’t yet watched this fun fantastical movie, you might wish to skip this post.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I recently watched Meg 2: The Trench and we both really enjoyed it. It was fun and action-packed and a bit silly in parts.
But that was great because all that was expected.
Meg 2: The Trench is an example of how to give people what they expect.
We expected huge sharks. We got huge sharks. Plural.
We expected Jason Statham in an action role. We got Jason Statham in an action-packed role.
There were the expected bad jokes and comradery and all of the beloved characters survived.
The visuals were awesome. The antics were over the top.
And there were DINOSAURS. Because the creators knew the viewers who love giant sharks also love dinosaurs.
Meg 2: The Trench was fun and that was exactly what we wanted in a movie.

Throwback Thursday – Grin And Bare Him
Grin, the cyborg hero in Grin And Bare Him, is a space architect, or rather an architect in space. He loves designing and fabricating buildings, especially homes for beings.
But in Grin And Bare Him, he has to embrace his warrior side. All cyborgs are trained warriors.
And his female needs a warrior. She has to recover something that is very special, very important to her kind.
Grin And Bare Him
This cyborg will be the warrior his female requires.
Cyborgs are manufactured to fight.
Almost all of the half organic, half mechanical warriors enjoy battle. Tremendously.
Grin, a K model, is one of the rare exceptions. When he escaped his cruel creators, he set down his weapons and allocated his processors to less-violent pursuits. He projects he’s left his war-waging planet rotations behind him forever.
Then he meets his beautiful, beguiling female—the one being he’s destined to protect, claim, love for all eternity—and his plans for peace are completely decimated.
Mohini needs a ship.
She has a dangerous mission to complete, and the first step in that assignment is arranging transport to an enemy-controlled planet. The vessel she has set her sights on is guarded by the sexiest cyborg she’s ever seen.
To gain access to his ship, Mohini is prepared to kiss, caress, and seduce the muscular male. The mission is her focus. The pleasure she experiences will merely be a bonus.

Does Writing Get Easier?
I’m often asked by newer writers if writing stories gets easier.
The brutal answer to that question is…
No. It doesn’t get easier.
Especially if we’re pushing ourselves as writers.
There’s always a new story challenge. There’s always research to complete. Every story is different and comes with its own unique issues.
There’s also the added challenge of ensuring our characters and plots and scenes are unique after having we’ve written a few hundred stories.
Stars. Ensuring sex scenes or battle scenes are unique and special is brutally difficult. I’ve written at least 1,000 sex scenes. I could produce a Kama Sutra-style collection of all the sex scenes I’ve written. You want fun with pineapples? I’ve written a scene like that. (laughs)
Anyhoo…writing is the best job in the world but it doesn’t get any easier.

Muse Food – Pointers
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this statue of General Vicente Guerrero Saldana in Huatulco, Mexico. And the first thing we both did was look in the direction the General was pointing.
In our stories, we have characters, actions, sentences that do this also. They point reading buddies in the direction they should be looking or thinking or, often in the case of Romance, feeling.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – April 7
Drift Would, the second core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in July), is with my Awesome Editor. It is on track for release day.
I have started working, somewhat, on Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November)! I’ve had a few false starts and I might have at least one more. The story is pretty much set plot-wise. I simply don’t know where to start it. (shrugs) I’ll figure it out. That’s part of the fun.

Do Ratings And Reviews Help Writers?
I’ve been very vocal about how ratings and reviews are for reading buddies first and foremost.
The great work by reading buddies of crafting reviews and ratings helps other reading buddies find books they might like. This is important work! Ensuring the right books are read by the right readers makes the world a happier and better place!
Do reviews and ratings also help writers?
Of course, they do.
I especially LOVE release day reviews and ratings. I look to them for confirmation my stories have been loaded properly by booksellers.
Of course, I would prefer reading buddies contact me directly about wonky formatting and other strange things. Many of you do this and I am SO grateful.
I also buy my own books, download them and ensure they look okay.
But I still worry. (sheepish grin) I think all writers worry.
Some promo opportunities are also only available to books with a certain number of ratings and a certain level of ratings. This is especially important for BookBub deals and for any sort of Apple promo opp.

Gardening – Improve The Soil
I think improving the soil and making a growable medium (soil or something similar) is something we should ALL be doing. It is a skill we should ALL have.
And it is something that doesn’t require a lot of our time and can cost us absolutely no money.
If you have land and you’ve never improved the soil on that land, it is likely sh*t, especially if you are in an urban area. Most yards in cities are filled with…well…fill. There’s a reason it is called that and not soil. And that reason is because it’s awful to grow in.
But that’s super easy to change!
Sprinkle some used coffee grounds (you can get a big bag of them for free from Starbucks or most other coffee shops) over your yard a couple times a year.
Or make compost (put your kitchen vegetable and fruit scraps and some shredded paper into a closed bucket with holes in it and wait for it to turn into a soil-like substance) and spread that.
Or make leaf mold (place leaves plus some water in a closed bucket with holes in it and wait for that to turn into a soil-like substance) and spread that.
If you live in an apartment building and have a balcony, you can make compost with your kitchen vegetable and fruit scraps and some shredded paper in a closed container with holes on it and place it in a corner of your balcony. In about a year, you’ll have compost, a soil-like substance you can grow plants in.
Some of my buddies sell their balcony-made compost to other people in their apartment buildings. They also keep some for themselves for the future, in case they need to grow some vegetables quickly.
Because that’s the key point. We don’t have to do all the work of planting gardens, etc., right now, but, if we improve our soil, when we DO want to do that, the soil/compost will be ready.

While attending a party, Kesser, the daughter of her planet’s leader, witnesses the abduction of her best friend and her best friend’s mate.

When a curvy human female with big brown eyes requests his help with a rescue, he doesn’t hesitate to say yes. She’s his genetic match, the one being he was manufactured to protect.
She’s also traveling to the next planet he has to search. He plans to claim his female while he fulfills his responsibilities to his kind.
Neither Strike nor Kesser realizes the dangers facing them are far greater than they imagine. Their enemies are converging, and one failed mission could doom the entire universe.

Throwback Thursday – Provoking Odium
Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite tropes both to write and to read.
Provoking Odium, however, is the first story I’ve written to have the human heroine being referred to as the Beast.
Briella has earned that nickname for a number of reasons – some admirable and some not-so-good.
She is a beast in the air. Briella flies into dangerous situations other beings would avoid. She does this to save lifespans. Her courage is tremendous.
And her flying skills are amazeballs. She loves to fly. And flying loves her. (grins)
The human heroine of Provoking Odium is also extremely scarred. She is aware that beings tend to react terribly to her appearance. So she avoids that rejection by rejecting them first.
Odium, the cyborg hero, doesn’t accept that rejection. And he certainly doesn’t react terribly to her appearance. (laughs)

While accompanying his leader on a mission, Odium, an E Model cyborg, hears a distress call over the communication lines. The voice on that message makes his circuits surge with energy and all his systems light up. He has to respond to the mysterious female, would risk his lifespan and the lifespans of everyone on board their ship to protect her.
A Human Female Others Call Beast
Briella gained her nickname due to her flying abilities, her fearlessness, and her scarred countenance. Her verbal-only relationship with the sexy cyborg who answers her distress call is a steamy yet short-lived fantasy. His kind is physically perfect, and she is…not. He will uncover that truth when…if they survive the attack upon her freighter.
