Intrepid Encounter, the fifth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November), is good to go story-wise! Woot! It still needs to be formatted and loaded to booksellers. But we’re getting much closer to having it ready for reading. (grins)

Intrepid Encounter And Olrun’s Name
The heroine of Intrepid Encounter, the fifth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November), is named Olrun.
An Olrun appears in Norse mythology. She was a Valkyrie and a swan-maiden. And she DID marry, which is unusual for Valkyries. That marriage only lasted eight years. Then she flew away with her Valkyrie sisters to find a battle.
A romantic happy ever after isn’t a goal for Valkyries.
Intrepid hopes his warrior female will be the exception to this. (grins)

Intrepid is, of course, the hero of Intrepid Encounter. (grins)
We first met Intrepid in Releasing Rage.
YES. He has been waiting THAT long to find his genetic match. For solar cycles, he has watched other warriors find their beings.
During that time, he has been working hard, defending the cyborg sector from possible invaders. He helped to save Power’s lifespan. He has been busy.
But he has also been lonely. He hasn’t been in solitude. Intrepid has his crew, his friends (Rage is one of those friends), his brethren for company. But he has yearned for a being to call his own.
That being, unfortunately, is intent on killing him. (grins)

Intrepid Encounter And Valkyries
Olrun, the heroine of Intrepid Encounter, the fifth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November), is a Valkyrie.
Valkyries play a role in Norse Mythology. They are famed female warriors. One of their duties is to escort warriors fallen in battle to Valhalla.
Some of that myth is based in Olrun’s reality. She IS a famed female warrior. She IS immortal (though, like the cyborgs, she CAN be killed). When Valkyries die, they believe they DO end up in Valhalla.
They don’t fly, however, except in ships. (grins) And they aren’t revered by the humans anymore. They are hunted by some terrible humans and other beings. Their numbers are dwindling.
It is important that Olrun protects her kind…even if that means killing the cyborg she desires.

Feeding The Bumblebees
The only things left growing in the backyard garden are tomatoes, lots and lots of tomatoes, marigolds, my one and only surviving zinnia plant and herbs.
The first frost date is roughly November 1st in my corner of the universe.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I are allowing the tomato plants to continue to flower, however, because those flowers are feeding the bumblebees. As are the marigolds and the zinnia. The more flowers the bumblebees can feed on before the cold comes the more likely the queen bees are to survive the winter.
It is a tiny way we can make the bees’ lives better and the world a better place. (smiles)

Muse Food – Plants And Life Finds A Way
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this determined little plant growing where it likely shouldn’t grow near Hoonah, Alaska. (grins)
We, alien world writing writers, often discuss whether or not beings or any sort of life can live on certain planets in our stories.
I usually lean towards yes, life could exist there. Because I’ve seen life endure in unusual circumstances right here on Earth. A tree will grow on a tiny rock-covered island in the middle of a lake. Creatures will live at the bottom of the ocean, far from sunlight and in low oxygen. There is life in the freezing cold Antarctica.
Life truly does find a way.

Throwback Thursday – Seizing Power
There are leaders who are much beloved.
And then there’s Power. (grins) Power is the self-appointed leader of the cyborg council. Very few cyborgs truly like him. He has been forced to make some tough and extremely unpopular decisions. And he believes it is easier to make those decisions if they don’t involve friends.
Eirene Ours is a much more beloved leader. She’s the head of the Rebel Cyborgs and she believes passionately that certain decisions Power made are very, very wrong.
She’s willing to ‘neutralize’ him to protect her beings.
Even if that means losing her one chance at love.
Seizing Power
This cyborg believes he’s in control.
Power is the self-appointed leader of the cyborg council. Other members might debate situations. He makes the ultimate decisions.
When a threat to Homeland is revealed, he takes command of a fleet and ventures to the edge of cyborg-controlled space to investigate. He finds a rebellion led by a mysterious upstart he calls Cadet.
The plan Power derives is simple—he’ll quickly quash the uprising and teach its leader a lesson the warrior will never forget.
NO ONE challenges his authority.
Eirene Ours might be called a cadet by Power but she is NOT his subordinate. She is the arrogant E Model’s genetic match.
For much of her mature lifespan, she has desired the male, yearning for his dark-eyed gaze, craving his sure hands, longing for his respect.
That esteem was never granted. And Eirene Ours can no longer wait to earn it. There’s an external threat to their kind, a danger that might destroy them all.

I view Seizing Power as one of the big finales of the cyborg world stories. It brings together many couples (and more) from previous stories
Power is the leader of the Cyborg Council. He believes he’s the leader of all cyborgs everywhere.
Cadet i.e. Eirene Ours is the leader of the Rebel Cyborgs, the defiant warriors living on Mercury Minor.
These two determined cyborgs are enemies. They are also, although Power doesn’t realize this yet, genetic matches. They are destined to be together.
If they don’t kill each other and millions of cyborgs first.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – May 1st
I completed the deep revisions for Provoking Odium, the 1st story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in June), and have submitted it to my Awesome Editor. I LOVE the changes. The story is so much stronger now. I hope my Awesome Editor loves them also.
I’ve returned to working on Grin And Bare Him, the 2nd story in the Cyborg Unity series (likely releasing in October). This story builds on Provoking Odium so rewrites need to happen to align with its revisions. And, of course, nothing will be certain until that 1st story is finalized.

Provoking Odium And Deep Re-Writes
On Sunday, I mentioned I had deep re-writes on Provoking Odium last week. Now that there is some emotional distance between me and the re-writes, I thought I’d talk about why these re-writes happened.
I made a wrong story decision.
I forced the characters to go down a path they wouldn’t ever venture along on their own.
I knew in my gut I was doing this. I even had the right decision in my head.
But stars, I was so in love, so insistent on this path. It would be fresh and exciting, I told myself.
It might have been all that but it was also wrong for the characters, wrong for the story. My Awesome Editor could see that. I was too enamored of my alternate path to realize this on my own.
It is a much better story after the revisions. The ending is true to Odium and Briella.
It is now THEIR story, not mine.

Seizing Power
This cyborg believes he’s in control.
