Zumba In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

By Cynthia Sax on June 6, 2025

There was a long trek in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico from the cruise ship through the cruise terminal before we spilled into the city itself. Part of that route took us through some buildings with shops in them.

In the middle of one of those buildings, in an event space, a zumba (dance/exercise) class was happening.

The Dear Wonderful Hubby loves zumba.

(grins)

He asked through hand gestures if he could join them.

The instructor and the rest of the class welcomed him.

He had a great time and a lot of laughs and everyone was smiling by the end of it.

It made Puerto Vallarta, an already magical city, even more magical.

(smiles)

Sneak Eating On A Cruise

By Cynthia Sax on May 20, 2025

At lunch on a recent cruise, a couple was seated at a table next to ours.

We had seen the husband at various eating venues around the ship. He was usually tucked into a quiet corner of the dining areas, demolishing a huge plate of fries and hamburgers and other goodies.

The waiter handed the couple two menus.

The wife opened her menu, scanned it quickly, and informed the waiter that they were both on extremely healthy diets and would have to customize their orders.

The waiter’s eyes widened ever-so-slightly. He glanced at the husband.

The husband stared back at him. He didn’t say any words but it was clear he warning the waiter not to say a dang thing about him eating all the not-so-healthy food all over the ship.

And the waiter, being a professional, didn’t say anything. He took the wife’s customized orders for two.

The husband ate his very plain salad.

And we saw him at the buffet a couple hours later.

During the rest of the cruise, we’d often see him at the buffet or the grill or other food venues and we’re often see the wife in different areas of the ship clearly looking for him.

He was a master sneak eater.

(grins)

Moon Landings And Other Awkward Conversations

By Cynthia Sax on March 29, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were sitting in a restaurant on a cruise ship. One of the things cruise ship restaurant staff often do, upon request, is seat strangers at a table together.

The table next to us was in that situation.

And we were shamelessly eavesdropping.

(grins)

There was a male/female couple and a woman on her own. She told the couple that Kevin, her husband, would be joining them. He was running a bit late.

The male half of the already seated couple dominated the conversation. He complained about the state of the US, spewed off some rather racist comments (they were all white folks at the table).

And THEN he REALLY warmed to his theory that the moon landing was fake.

He chattered for about fifteen minutes about how it was all scripted, how the astronauts were actors, how the space program was truly a means of funneling money to the Libs, etc. etc.

Finally, his wife nudged him.

“Oh, I must be boring you,” he told the solitary woman.

“It’s okay.” Her eyes glittered. “I’m used to all the space talk by now.”

Her husband sits down.

“Kevin.” She pats his arm. “Worked for NASA for thirty years.”

Friends, the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I almost fell out of our chairs laughing.

The delivery was perfect.

The conspiracy theorist immediately had an ‘oh sh*t’ expression on his face.

His wife’s eyes widened.

Kevin’s wife had an almost gleeful smile on her beautiful face.

Kevin, the former NASA worker, was completely oblivious and started chatting about what he did at NASA and some of the projects he’d been involved in.

It. Was. AWESOME!

(laughs)
