Welcome To June!

By Cynthia Sax on June 1, 2021

Stock photo taken by: epajic

This year has been creeping by for me and I’m super okay with that. I have stories to write. I prefer that time slows a bit. (grins)

I was always told that June was named after the Roman goddess, Juno, the goddess of marriage. There has been some debate over that in recent years. Some say June was named after Lucius Junius Brutus, the founder of the Roman Republic. Others say it was a nod to Latin word iuniores, which means “younger ones.”

As I’m a romance writer and reader, I like the goddess of marriage origin story. (laughs)

And it is appropriate because June is the month I most associate with weddings. The weather is usually nice in my corner of the universe. There are plenty of outdoor weddings, especially with pandemic considerations. Fresh flowers are plentiful. There are some great photo opps.

I LOVE weddings. I often cry with happiness as an attendee. They are a celebration of love and I think we should have as many celebrations of love as we possibly can.

Some of my favorite people are named June. (big hugs) I’m wishing all those buddies and everyone else a wonderful month!

Under Strain

A damaged cyborg warrior is hunted by a peace-loving human female.

***

Strain is severely malfunctioning. The D Model cyborg was the sole survivor after a horrific decision was made by his cruel manufacturers. He hates all humans, and when he attacks one who is under his cyborg leader’s protection, he is reprimanded, stripped of his weapons, and told to watch and not actively participate in the next mission.

That mission takes place on a small remote planet. Its lush terrain should only be inhabited by the cyborgs they were sent to rescue, but Strain senses another presence on the surface. She is watching him, tracking him, hunting him.

A fully operational cyborg would end her lifespan.

Strain wants to claim her. Forever.

Kamyelle is the only one left of her kind. Warriors have killed the other nonviolent human inhabitants of her planet. She survived…barely…by hiding in the trees, observing her enemies, and covering herself with lifeform scan-concealing mud.

When a handsome, gray-skinned, brilliant-blue-eyed male arrives, surrounded by weapon-carrying warriors, she has to save him. Warriors harm and they kill. That is what they do.

She won’t allow them to hurt Strain.

***

Under Strain is a STANDALONE Cyborg SciFi Romance set in a dark, gritty, sometimes-violent universe.

It features a broken warrior, a human female who thinks he’s perfect, and velociraptor-like dinosaurs who view them both as light, tasty snacks.

Pulling Dandelions

By Cynthia Sax on May 24, 2021

Stock photo taken by mary1826

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spent an enjoyable hour or two removing dandelions (Taraxacum officinale) in our front and back yard. We don’t pull them out of the ground in the early spring as dandelions are often the first flowers in our corner of the universe and are an essential source of nectar for the honey bees.

We remove the dandelions manually because herbicides and pesticides aren’t allowed in our city. I LOVE this restriction. It means, in a pinch, we can eat the dandelions.

The entire plant (leaves, stems, flowers, and roots) is edible. When I was a kid, we ate dandelion leaves in salads. They were a bit bitter. Often we’d eat them blanched the same way we’d eat spinach. One of my aunties would make a potent dandelion wine.

I joke with the Dear Wonderful Hubby that, if the apocalypse happens, we’ll be eating dandelions…and I suspect dandelions would survive any disaster. The happy yellow blooms are tenacious, often growing between patches of pavement.

We pull the dandelions so the clover and other ground covering has a chance to grow also. The variety provides better dining options for bunnies and other creatures.

Librarians And The Pandemic

By Cynthia Sax on May 17, 2021

Photo Taken By: by Pexels

When the groups that are helping us all cope with and survive the pandemic are listed, librarians are often overlooked.

Librarian have played essential roles during this pandemic.

The crisis is far from over, of course. We’re still in lockdown in my corner of the universe. Libraries, the physical buildings, are currently closed to the public.

But librarians are working hard and often harder than they worked previously.

Contactless pickups and drop-offs are available to all patrons. That takes skill and effort to arrange. Books, print, digital, audio, etc, are being added to collections.

Online seminars on topics like dealing with stress or searching for jobs during a pandemic are being hosted. Even while physically closed, libraries continue to be sources of information and knowledge.

Whenever I pass the neighborhood library, it doesn’t matter what time it is, there are people, often students, seated outside the library, with their phones and laptops and other devices in their hands or laps, using the library’s Wi-Fi.

The schools in my area sent kids home with devices so they could continue their schooling online. They didn’t provide them with Wi-Fi.

Local libraries are supplying that essential service for many residents. (Especially with coffee shops and other Wi-Fi friendly places being closed.)

Libraries and librarians also distributed food during the pandemic, becoming outlets for food banks. They helped to ensure residents didn’t go hungry.

Currently, many librarians are phoning older residents, telling them about vaccination opportunities, putting them in contact with organizations if they require help.

Librarians are helping in a gazillion other, often semi-invisible, ways to ensure we get through this crisis. I appreciate libraries and librarians so much for all they have done and continue to do. (big hugs)

The Month Of May

By Cynthia Sax on May 15, 2021

I love May. (smiles) I love most months but May is still solidly in Spring in my part of the universe and that is my favorite season. I love the animal and bird births and the re-emergence of all the greenery.

May was named for Maia, one of Pleiades in Greek mythology (a star cluster is named after the Pleiades). Maia is perhaps best known as being the mother of Hermes, the herald of the gods. (Hermes’ father was Zeus.)

I find that apt as Mother’s Day in North America happens in May. A month ago, I ordered my Awesome Mom a bouquet of yellow roses, her favorite flowers, for Mother’s Day from a local florist. She loved them. And I LOVE the ability to order gifts far in advance. That helps when I get sucked deep into the writing cave.

Some of my beloved reading buddies and fellow writers are named May and I am thinking of them this month. (group hugs)

I’m wishing everyone a wonderful May!

Talking Dinosaur Planets With Delilah Devlin

By Cynthia Sax on May 7, 2021

Woot! I’m talking about Under Strain and dinosaur planets on Delilah Devlin’s online home!

Here’s a snippet…

“I LOVE dinosaurs. As a kid, I had dinosaur toys and I read every book I could find on them. I’ve been on touristy dinosaur digs. I am glued to the TV whenever any of the Jurassic Park/World movies are shown. Once there’s a dinosaur featured, I’m captured.”

May The Fourth Be With You

A Stormtrooper On Display At The Yoda Guy Exhibit on St Maarten

Today is Star Wars Day, one of my favorite days of the year!

I love the ever-expanding Star Wars world. I also love the Star Trek world. I see no issues with loving both. They are different worlds and focus on different things and I think that’s awesome.

The Mos Eisley cantina scene in the very first Star Wars movie has always been an inspirational scene for me. I strive to, someday, write a scene similar to it except I would like reading buddies to already know the background of every participant in that scene. That would require writing numerous stories featuring a variety of aliens and cyborgs and other types of species.

That will take decades but I hope to do it!

A Display At The Yoda Guy Exhibit on St Maarten

When the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I visited the Yoda Guy exhibit in St Maarten a few years ago, Nick Maley, the man who helped craft Yoda for Empire Strikes Back, was sculpting a Yoda head. I thought that was so fraggin’ awesome.

What is your favorite Star Wars memory?

Inspiration From Space

By Cynthia Sax on March 8, 2021

I have been LOVIN’ the recent influx of images from Mars and other ventures into space. The photos have been such a source of inspiration for me, for other SciFi Romance writers and for artists. The artwork that is being created is out of this world!

Often it is easier for me to write when I can better visualize the scenes. Artwork and photos allow me to do that. They sometimes also push me in a different direction, a direction I might not go without the images.

In addition to that, I’ve been using some of the artwork as backdrops for book promo material (I pay indirectly for use of the images). It gets me excited about writing and I hope it will excite you about reading the stories.

It is such a thrilling time for space lovers!

Containing Malice

This tormented cyborg craves vengeance…and her.

***

Malice, a C Model cyborg, has spent his long lifespan enslaved by the Humanoid Alliance. His cruel manufacturers have hurt him in all the ways a male could be hurt.

His enemy has now added a new weapon to their arsenal—a tiny human medic with soft hands and a delectable scent. She experiments on him multiple times a shift, delivering pain…and frustration.

He wants her. He also seeks retribution.

Once Malice frees himself, he plans to achieve both of his goals, taking Medic Illona captive and ending her research…permanently.

Illona is as much a prisoner as the cyborgs she experiments on. Since her arrival at the Human Alliance’s secret laboratory, she has carefully, stealthily, crafted a plot to free her test subjects. To conceal her covert activities, the medic has been forced to harm beings rather than heal them.

The being she has damaged the most is also the cyborg she fiercely desires— Malice, a huge, gray-skinned, blue-eyed C Model with massive hands and a voice deeper than space. He hates her, has good reason to do so, and, when he’s freed, there’s a high probability he’ll kill her.

Illona will take that risk to ensure he survives.

March – In Like A Lion…

By Cynthia Sax on March 1, 2021

Today is March 1st.

My much beloved Grandpa was a farmer (he worked on the roads also). I have a great respect for that role, which is why many of the beings in my stories have connections to agri-lot tenders, futuristic farmers. Farmers keep us fed. That’s key for any civilization.

Anyhoo… during March, my farming Grandpa would always boom, “In like a lion. Out like a lamb.” And nod as though that said everything. (grins) He was a character and I loved him so very much.

When I was a kid, I pictured the animals and I was always disappointed when lions and lambs didn’t show up. I didn’t realize that the saying truly meant if the weather at the beginning of March was bad, the weather at the end of the month would be good…for farmers. Good weather for farmers isn’t always what the rest of us view as good weather.

Grandpa, I’m thinking of you and other farmers today.

I’ve been a blogger much longer than I’ve been a published romance writer. I love blogging. I love crafting posts. It is my favorite type of promotion because I don’t view it as promotion. It is pure fun for me.

If you are a writer, reviewer, reader, other professional and would like to have a blog post from me for your site, let me know! My email is on the side panel (under my book covers).

I don’t care how much traffic your blog receives. We all start with no readers.

Suggest topics or themes. Let me know the specs (the number of words, whether or not you post book info, the image sizes, etc) and, when I have time (my own writing comes first always), I’ll craft a post for you.

If you want to appear on this blog, let me know also! I don’t share bulk posts like cover reveals or pure book information but I’m always happy to post a book-related written-just-for-my-blog post.
