Needing Valor

This not-at-all-dead cyborg needs to be needed.

Seeking a change after solar cycles of war, Halleli enters a lottery on her home planet. Her wishes are granted. She wins a home of her own in the middle of nowhere.

The only problem is…that home is haunted.

Bergdorf Goodman Window Inspiration

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were in New York City recently and I found the windows at Bergdorf Goodman so very inspirational. (grins)

I thought they might serve as inspiration for my writing and reading buddies!

This ‘world’ is dominated by birds and insects. Look at the exciting diversity!

This ‘world’ is blue and sparkly and has a hint of space with the planets, the moon, the astrological signs.

Look at this wonderful cat ‘world’! The expressions on their cute little faces are wonderful.

Of course, we can’t have a cat world without a dog world. I like how the monochrome color scheme emphasizes the different shapes and forms of the doggies.

I love how the artist didn’t go for the obvious blue for the fish world. The purples give the impression of great depth.

And finally, we have this swirly psychedelic red and white world with a music theme.

Welcome To December!

December is the last month in our year! We’ll soon say good-bye to 2021. Woot!

I’m looking forward to 2022. Seizing Power released in February and then the next series in the Cyborg saga begins.

December was originally the 10^th month. Decem means ten in Latin.

Many holidays, including Christmas, are celebrated this month. The Winter Solstice happens in the Northern Hemisphere. The Summer Solstice happens in the Southern Hemisphere.

There are also a gazillion meteor showers occurring in December including the Andromedids, the Canis-Minorids, the Coma Berenicids, the Delta Cancrids, the Geminids, the Monocerotids, the Phoenicids, the Quadrantids (sometimes), the Sigma Hydrids, and the Ursids.

Sending love to all my buddies celebrating birthdays and other special occasions in December. (big hugs) Wishing everyone much happiness in this last month of 2021.

B Free And Excerpts

You might have noticed that the (unedited and very rough) excerpt at the end of B Free is from Seizing Power, the fifth and final core story in the Rebel Cyborgs series (releasing in February).

Needing Valor, this year’s free thank you short story, is the next release, however. So why didn’t I include an excerpt from that story?

Because Needing Valor won’t be listed at booksellers.

Many booksellers don’t like it when writers offer free short stories (or free any length of stories). They often refuse to make these stories free and they don’t include them as part of the series.

If you look at the series page for the first cyborg series, for example, you’ll likely see the core stories listed and gaps in series numbers where the free short stories should be. It is…ugly. And it is confusing for many reading buddies.

To ‘fix’ this, going forward, the free thank you short stories won’t be listed or mentioned on the series page/blurb at booksellers. They will be added to the booklist and be on my website/blog for reading buddies who want these fun extras.

Remembrance Day 2021

Today is Remembrance Day in my corner of the universe.

I always think of my Great Uncle Frank on Remembrance Day. He was my first exposure to the sacrifices of soldiers and to the horrors of war. (You can read about my Great Uncle Frank here – http://tasteofcyn.com/2013/11/11/lest-we-forget/ ) His experiences made a lasting impact on me.

And it has influenced my writing and how I write about warriors. (You can read more about that here – http://tasteofcyn.com/2020/11/11/the-darkness-of-war/ ) I think of Great Uncle Frank and the other warriors I’ve met when I write many of my stories.

As I am thinking about them today.

Their service and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Welcome To November!

November is usually a cold month in my section of the universe. Usually. Climate change is changing that. Right now, there are still leaves on the trees and dandelions flowering in the backyard.

November, currently the eleventh month of the year, was originally the ninth month. Novem means nine in Latin.

This is a GREAT month for meteor showers. The Andromedids, the Leonids, the Alpha Monocerotids, the Northern Taurids, the Southern Taurids, the Phoenicids and sometimes the Orionids put on shows in the skies this month. If you’re outside at night and it is safe to do so, look upward. You might get lucky and see the flash of a meteor.

The big event for me this November is the release of B Free! Woot! B Free releases on the 16^th. I think you’ll really enjoy this story. I love B and Quinn.

I’m sending celebratory thoughts to all my buddies born in this month. Those were fortunate days for the universe. (smiles) And I am wishing everyone a great November!

Halloween Decorations

We already have a pumpkin situated on our front step. I can’t really call it a jack o’lantern as we went the extremely lazy route and used markers instead of carving the face. It is a really small pumpkin. (grins) That is our excuse.

The big maple tree in the neighbor’s front yard has contributed to the decorating. Every morning, our driveway is covered with beautiful bright yellow leaves. It looks like a fantasy world. (smiles)

Our spiders have also stepped up their game. One of them has spun a huge spiderweb over our front door. It truly looks like we placed it there deliberately! Good work, spiders!

B Free And Halloween Chocolate

Halloween is my all-time favorite special occasion. I love it more than my birthday, more than any other holiday.

One of the reasons for this great love is…

The tiny chocolate bars the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I give out to trick or treaters. (grins)

I eat some of these chocolate bars. I have to test them before I hand them to the kiddies. (laughs) And they always make me feel like a giant. They are so very small in my hands.

I suspect that is how B, the hero of B Free, the fifth story in the Rebel Cyborgs series (releasing in November), often feels. He is HUGE. C Models are extremely large. B Models are even bigger. The nourishment bars must look like bite-sized treats in his big hands.

When you eat one of those little chocolate bars, think of B. That is his reality every day.
