Muse Food – How Your Characters Eat
Eating is a necessity for humans (and humanlike beings). We have to eat to live.
HOW we eat varies, however, vastly.
There is a wide variety of eating utensils, for example, here on Earth – knives, forks, spoons, fingers, chopsticks, different types of bread, and variations in these. Japanese chopsticks aren’t the same as Chinese chopsticks.
Some people prefer to eat alone in private. Some people prefer to eat with friends or family in public. Some people like to share food. Some people want their own plates, not to be touched by others.
There are also eating rituals and customs like prayers before eating, the order food is eaten, how people sit or stand while eating food, etc.
All of these little details can tell readers more about your world or about your characters.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – August 23
I’m starting the 1st draft of the 9th installment of the Super Secret Project today. I finalized the 8th installment yesterday. Yes, no rest for the wicked. (grins) I’m excited to find out what happens next!

Cyborg Sizzle Escape Omnibus
Half Man. Half Machine. All Theirs.

While these cyborg warriors battle to escape their cruel manufacturers, they find the human females they are destined to love for all eternity.
This omnibus includes the first seven stories in the Cyborg Sizzle series: Releasing Rage, Breathing Vapor, Being Green, Crash And Burn, Defying Death, Chasing Mayhem and Jumping Barrel.
All of these Cyborg Romances are set in a dark, gritty, often violent universe.
Releasing Rage
Rage, the Humanoid Alliance’s most primitive cyborg, has two goals–kill all of the humans on his battle station and escape to the Homeland. The warrior has seen the darkness in others and in himself. He believes that’s all he’s been programmed to experience.
Until he meets Joan.
Breathing Vapor
Vapor is the most advanced cyborg the Humanoid Alliance has ever developed. He’s a finely honed weapon, a warrior without parallel, half man and half machine. No lock can contain him. No being can stop him. Whatever he wants, he takes.
He wants Mira Breazeal, the Designer’s daughter.
Being Green
Green, a cyborg warrior, cares for one being—his plant Windy. When Windy becomes sick, he’ll do anything to heal her, even venture across the universe to visit a worlds-renowned plant doctor.
He doesn’t expect to find love.
Crash And Burn
Crash was manufactured to be one of the best warriors in the universe. The cyborg has spent many human lifespans fighting the enemy. But, unlike his battle-loving brethren, he doesn’t enjoy killing. When he escapes the Humanoid Alliance, he vows to never end another life.
Then he meets Safyre, an infuriating human female, and he considers breaking his vow.
Defying Death
Cyborgs don’t show emotion. Death learned that lesson early in his long lifespan. To survive, he hides his fierce passions behind a stoic wall. He calls no warrior friend. He never admits to caring for any being.
Even the human female he’s destined to love.
Chasing Mayhem
Mayhem has spent his lengthy lifespan obeying the Humanoid Alliance’s rules. Finally free from their cruel control, the cyborg warrior plans to cause chaos. He infiltrates a remote settlement, provokes the savage locals until they want him dead, and allows himself to be captured by the sexiest little Retriever he has ever laid his mechanically-enhanced eyes on.
Jumping Barrel
Barrel requires an Expert for the Tau Cetian orphans. He’s looking for a female who is willing to commit to a lifespan-long role, who is comfortable with moving off planet, and who, preferably, has the ability to speak the offsprings’ first language.
His female, however, is looking for a hero.

Making Space For Good Things
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I have been reducing our unneeded things, our clutter.
This has not only created more space in our home for other things but it has always created more space in our busy schedules. We no longer have to clean and care for those unneeded things.
This means we have time and space to more easily do the things we love…like dancing around the kitchen while we make dinner. (smiles)
Make a little space…in your home, in your schedule, in your amazing mind. Then fill it with good things or experiences or simply and fantastically serenity.
You deserve this happiness, my friends!

Loving All Lifeforms
I know you won’t find this surprising, considering I’ve written alien romances, but I love all types of lifeforms.
(grins)
I love insects (SO much), humans (in small doses – grins), the mafia squirrels, even jellyfish (as long as I’m in no danger of being stung). I think they’re all beautiful in their own unique ways and they are all equally important to this wonderful planet of ours.
And I think it’s okay to love your furbabies as much as or more than you love humans. It’s okay to dote on your living room fern as you might dote on a human child. It’s okay to talk to the ladybugs, thanking them for protecting your plants.
(smiles)
Humans are part of this awesome world. We aren’t THE entire world. And isn’t that amazing?

Harvest Early. Harvest Often
One of a plant’s primary goals is to reproduce.
When we harvest early, picking fruit and vegetables when they’re edible but before they can produce mature seeds, many plants, like zucchini/courgettes, beans, tomatoes, hurry to produce more fruits and vegetables.
We often get a bigger harvest!
And that harvest is spaced out a bit. So we can better enjoy and/or preserve it!

Feed Another Today
Look at this beautiful (well fed) horse, begging for treats. She has clearly not been fed in…minutes.
(grins)
One of the ways the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I show love is to feed others.
The equivalent of a can of tuna or a $1.75 donation given to a local food bank can provide 1 meal to 1 person.
One flower planted in the backyard can provide a meal for multiple bees.
Used coffee grounds dumped on the ground can provide multiple meals for the microbes living in the soil, which, in turn, enriches it, which, in turn, feeds some plants.
Feeding others also makes the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I feel good. We feel like we’re contributing to this wonderful world. We’re helpers.
Consider feeding another living being today, my friends.

Muse Food – Rainbows And Other Meanings
An exercise expert I follow posted a video in which she described her skin as being ‘orange.’
That one throwaway sentence greatly decreased my enjoyment of the video. And it made me view her differently.
(big sigh)
In contrast, a gardening expert recently talked about how she loves rainbows.
That throwaway sentence greatly INCREASED my enjoyment of that video.
(smiles)
Words matter. They can have multiple meanings and be loaded with emotion not at all implied by their definitions in a dictionary.
Choose the words in your story carefully.

It Is Okay To Do Nothing
I am admittedly a bit of a workaholic. I think many writers are. There’s always another scene to be written.
(grins)
But working all the time leads to burnout and unhappiness. And that, ultimately, decreases overall word count. It doesn’t increase it.
So I now schedule do nothing time into my schedule. (Truly, this is non-working time as we’re always doing something, even if that something is staring into space and breathing.)
I take naps. I sit in the garden and watch the butterflies flutter from flower to flower. I talk about absolute silliness with the Dear Wonderful Hubby. (smiles)
Life isn’t a race. Slow down, my friends. Enjoy it.
