One of the many reasons people love babies is because they symbolize hope. They are the next generation of humans, fur babies, plants, insects, other living things. We hope their world will be a kinder, happier one.
Babies also symbolize innocence. They haven’t yet done anything hurtful.
In stories, harming a baby is the act of the evilest of beings. They’ve done absolutely nothing to deserve that treatment.
Protecting a baby can be a reason for heroes and heroines to survive and to fight.
Babies also suggest a continuance or a future. The characters will live long after the story ends. Which is one reason why many romance novels end with the characters having a baby.
