Back To School
September (tomorrow!) is back to school time in my part of the universe.
I LOVE this time of year. I love how stores feature awesome notebooks and wonderful pens. I love watching kids skip to school that first day. They usually wear their newest clothes and are so excited and happy. I love the crispness of Fall/Autumn that accompanies back to school.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I will be celebrating by donating school supplies. We also usually leave a few backpacks near our neighborhood’s Little Free Library. And we’ll wake up early enough to watch the kids walk by our home on their way to school.

Drift Would, Claiming Cure And Overlap
There WILL be some overlap in Claiming Cure (releasing in November) with Drift Would. Drift and Cure are sharing a mission. The beginning of their stories will be shared also.
But I promise you… you WILL want to read Cure’s version of that beginning. (grins) He has a very different view on…well…everything.
Plus there are parts of the beginning we didn’t see in Drift Would and conversations we didn’t hear.

Throwback Thursday – Warlord Unarmed
The Chamele Barbarian Warlords series features…you guessed it… barbarian warlords. You wouldn’t think barbarians would be skilled with technology.
But, of course, if they are traveling by spaceship from planet to planet, a feat humans haven’t yet accomplished, they WOULD be skilled in technology.
And Murad, the hero of Warlord Unarmed, is EXTREMELY skilled in all things technical.
That doesn’t help him much when he crashes on a planet with his human female, however.

Murad, a technology-loving Chamele Warlord, has to track down and eliminate a rogue warrior before that male ends Murad’s reign. Permanently.

Gardening – Rain, Rain And More Rain
We’ve had and continue to have a VERY rainy summer in my corner of the universe. It rains EVERY day.
That’s great in most ways.
Everything is lush and green. The water tables are being replenished. The insects and birds and other creatures are thriving and happy. The tomatoes are HUGE and plentiful (and the squirrels leave them alone as they have other sources of water).
There are a few downsides. The stems of the zucchini (courgette) plants rotted so we only harvested about 6 zucchinis this year (and we had 6 plants). The stems of the butternut squash are in danger but they are thus far fighting the rot.
But that is a small price to pay for otherwise thriving surroundings. (smiles) We are extremely fortunate and I am appreciative of that.

A Turbulent World
The world is a bit…turbulent right now. To put it mildly. (grins)
Yes, I’ll be crafting the remaining 3 stories in the Dauntless Cyborgs series so they are great places to rest.
But I REALLY like to finish series. The possibility of not finishing a series stresses me out. I worry. Tremendously.
And that’s not conducive to happiness OR great writing.
So for the next little bit, I’m focusing on the core stories in the Dauntless Cyborgs series.
That means there won’t be a short story this year. My short stories take 2 full months to craft and edit and format.
I’ll use that time to write Grid’s story. And, after that, Choice’s story. (smiles)

Muse Food – Doors And Other Portals
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this awesome door in Manila, Philippines.
I LOVE doors. Doors are magical. They divide one place from another.
Crossing the threshold is taking a journey and it implies change.
A locked door hints at secrets. A closed door can be a visible rejection. An open door is welcoming. A fancy door implies there’s something fancy on the other side. A plain door means the opposite.
Doors can be powerful symbols in our stories. We can use them to shift our readers’ expectations and alter the mood of a scene.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – August 25
Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November), is still with my Awesome Editor. The first round of edits/revisions takes a while as stories are VERY rough at this point. (sheepish grin)
I continue to SLEEP and garden and do not-as-fun administrative tasks. But I’m also starting to think about Grid Locked, the fourth core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing likely in March).
I think of Grid Locked as my Avengers: Infinity War story. SO MANY cyborgs and their genetic matches will be back for it. It is super exciting!

A Massive Caterpillar
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I are sacrificing one of our tomato plants to this absolute beauty of a caterpillar. (That’s my hand in the background to show its size.)
(smiles)
It is the biggest caterpillar I’ve ever seen here in Toronto, Canada.
I think this will eventually be a Laurel Sphinx, an equally massive (for Canada) moth.
We’re fortunate to be able to sacrifice one of our tomato plants. We can afford to buy canned tomatoes to replace this loss.
As the Dear Wonderful Hubby said, “We can buy more tomatoes. It is harder to buy more butterflies.”

Resting Points
I’m well aware of Trump’s Project 2025 and its implications on romance novels.
I know if he gets elected in the US, romance novels will be likely banned. This ban will eventually extend to all heat levels but the steamy romance novels like mine will be banned first.
With that in mind, starting with Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November), I’ll ensure there are semi-solid resting points for the Dauntless Cyborgs series and for the cyborg world at the end of each novel. There will be hints about the future because hey, life goes on. But there will also be a sense of completion.
