The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I saw this beautiful auditorium in Cartagena, Colombia.
It was once a bullfighting ring. You can see parts of that bullfighting ring in its design.
I remember that when I’m world building. Unless the planet was created a heartbeat ago, everything builds on something previously there.
The earth’s surface, for example, consists of layers of sediment placed there over time. Everything that’s left on the surface is eventually built or covered over. We are literally standing on the past.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – March 10
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I take photos of the cats during our various travels. These cats are usually outdoor cats so they tend to be leaner, a bit…well…bitten, more scraggly.
But we love them as much as the fluffier, well kept cats. They remind me of the scarred, street-savvy heroes of many of the favorite romance novels we read.
Drift Would, the second core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in July), remains with my Awesome Editor. Drift Would’s plot is complex and intricate and I expect the rounds of edits and revisions to take a bit longer. That’s why the release day was set for so far in the future.
But it WILL be worth the wait. (grins) I LOVE this story.
I continue to do absolutely nothing new writing-wise. I am restoring my energy levels and also completing less exciting tasks like doing taxes and looking through the pile of month’s old mail I’ve been ignoring.

Future Cynthia Sax Stories
My next four releases will, of course, be the four stories in the Dauntless Cyborgs series. (grins) And I’ll be focusing on those core stories. There likely won’t be a short story written in 2024.
The fifth story in Dauntless Cyborgs, Her Choice, will be a resting spot for the cyborg continuum. You’ll see why this is appropriate as the series progresses. Yes, it is very mysterious. (laughs)
After that (2026 onward), I think I’ll do some non-series stories. They will reside in the Cyborg/Dark Thoughts/Warlord universe. But they will be completely self-contained stories. They won’t be attached to a longer story requiring multiple stories to complete.
Will these be cyborg stories? There will likely be a few cyborg stories written as solo stories. There also might be modified humanoid/Dark Thoughts stories. And some new alien types.
It is good to mix it up a bit every so often. It keeps us all young. And I think my muse will really like that.

Throwback Thursday – Under Strain
Dinosaur planet.
(grins) Yes, Under Strain is set on a dinosaur planet. Those dinosaurs want to eat the heroine and not in a sexy way. They view her as dinner
The cyborgs, on the other hand, want to RIDE the dinosaurs. (laughs) Yeah, they are wild warriors. And they have some big fun in this story.
Under Strain
A damaged cyborg warrior is hunted by a peace-loving human female.

Strain is severely malfunctioning. The D Model cyborg was the sole survivor after a horrific decision was made by his cruel manufacturers. He hates all humans, and when he attacks one who is under his cyborg leader’s protection, he is reprimanded, stripped of his weapons, and told to watch and not actively participate in the next mission.
That mission takes place on a small remote planet. Its lush terrain should only be inhabited by the cyborgs they were sent to rescue, but Strain senses another presence on the surface. She is watching him, tracking him, hunting him.
A fully operational cyborg would end her lifespan.
Strain wants to claim her. Forever.
Kamyelle is the only one left of her kind. Warriors have killed the other nonviolent human inhabitants of her planet. She survived…barely…by hiding in the trees, observing her enemies, and covering herself with lifeform scan-concealing mud.
When a handsome, gray-skinned, brilliant-blue-eyed male arrives, surrounded by weapon-carrying warriors, she has to save him. Warriors harm and they kill. That is what they do.
She won’t allow them to hurt Strain.

Strike Zone And Would Talley Have Saved Kesser?
Kesser, the heroine of Strike Zone, recruits Strike to help her save Talley, her best friend.
Would Talley have saved Kesser, if their positions had been reversed?
She would have definitely TRIED to save Kesser. Talley loves Kesser as much as Kesser loves Talley.
But they are two VERY different beings. Talley would have burst into action with absolutely no planning. She wouldn’t have thought the situation through AT ALL. The rescue attempt would have been pure chaos.
Sometimes chaos results in success. And it might have done that for Talley’s rescue of Kesser.
But if I had a choice, I would choose Kesser to rescue me. (grins)

Strike Zone And Conflicting Loyalties
Strike, the cyborg hero of Strike Zone, is VERY loyal to Intrepid, his captain. Intrepid helped him escape the Humanoid Alliance. Strike would die for the male.
Of course, when Strike meets Kesser, his genetic match, he gives her his loyalty also. He would die for his human.
Thankfully, Intrepid wouldn’t ever ask Strike to choose loyalty to him over loyalty to Kesser. Intrepid has his own genetic match. He realizes how important that bond is.
He also wants the best for Strike. And that best is Kesser. (grins)

Muse Food – Popsicles, Bees And Which Parts Of The World To Show
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were sharing a popsicle or paleta in Huatulco, Mexico. It was hot. The popsicle was melting faster than we could devour it. And drops of sugary liquid were falling to the ground.
That attracted the bees.
We watched them return to the drips again and again until all the liquid had evaporated.
Every action in our stories creates a gazillion ripples in our worlds. We can’t show all of them on page. We have to choose.
I chose in this post to talk about the ripple involving the bees.
I could have chosen to talk about the little girl who saw our popsicle and tried to convince her guardian to buy her a popsicle also.
I could have chosen to talk about the old man who scowled and muttered at us because we were sticky and laughing and acting foolish.
I could have chosen to talk about the helpful person who sold us the popsicle and the adventures we had navigating our different languages.
I could have chosen the numerous other stories that happened because we got a popsicle.
I made a choice. And we have to make similar choices while writing our longer stories. That is part of the fun. (grins)

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – March 3
Strike Zone, the first core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series, released this week! Woot! I love this story and I hope you enjoyed it too. Doesn’t this new unexplored sector have a Bermuda Triangle feel to it? It is so mysterious and different and oh-so-very special.
I also submitted Drift Would, the second core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series, to my Awesome Editor this week! Another woot! I love this story also. It takes the fantastical elements found in Strike Zone and escalates them. I don’t know how I will top this in the third story.
But that is a delightful challenge for another time. My brain is drained dry and I plan to sleep for, at least, a week. (grins)

While attending a party, Kesser, the daughter of her planet’s leader, witnesses the abduction of her best friend and her best friend’s mate.
She’s determined to rescue them. Preferably without fracturing the fragile peace agreement her mom has crafted with the abductors’ planet.
The only issue is…she has never participated in a retrieval mission.
Searching for assistance, she approaches the mate’s guard. The male, with his big broad shoulders and deep growly voice, affects her like no other being ever has.
Kesser wants him. She trusts him. And she requires his stealth combat skills.

Strike is no guard. The D Model cyborg has been sent to the sector to discreetly investigate a potential planet-destroying situation.
When a curvy human female with big brown eyes requests his help with a rescue, he doesn’t hesitate to say yes. She’s his genetic match, the one being he was manufactured to protect.
She’s also traveling to the next planet he has to search. He plans to claim his female while he fulfills his responsibilities to his kind.
Neither Strike nor Kesser realizes the dangers facing them are far greater than they imagine. Their enemies are converging, and one failed mission could doom the entire universe.

March And Spring
March is the official start of spring in my corner of the universe.
The daffodils are sprouting. The snow is gone. The days are longer. And the birds and squirrels and raccoons (aka our beloved trash pandas) are having babies.
I love spring. (grins) It is a time of renewal and fresh starts and hope!
