The submission draft of Intrepid Encounter, the fifth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November), remains with my Awesome Editor. I don’t expect it back for another week or so.
I know I said I’d take the week off with the writing. But I was so inspired by my super fun idea for Hacking Hazard, this year’s short story (releasing in December with no pre-orders), I HAD to start writing it. (grins) I’m having a blast with this story!

Cover Reveal For Hacking Hazard

Throwback Thursday – Releasing Rage
Releasing Rage was the very first cyborg romance I ever wrote.
I wrote it purely for my own enjoyment. Two of my favorite cyborg romance writers were taking a break from their series and focusing on other types of stories. I needed my cyborg romance hit. (grins) So I wrote my own story.
I hadn’t planned on publishing it. The story, Releasing Rage, was very dark and sexy and I didn’t know if many readers would be interested in it. But I sent it to my Awesome Editor.
And she loved it!
So I figured, what the heck, I might as well share it with reading buddies.
And many of you loved it also!

Art And Expectations
There is a AITA post floating around social media about a guy whose girlfriend offered to bake him a cake. He described the EXACT cake he wanted. She added a flavor of frosting he liked but didn’t want in that specific birthday cake. He refused to eat it.
I suspect (and this is just a guess) he views baking a cake as a standard task like mowing the lawn or emptying the waste bins. And she views baking a cake as art.
Artists, like bakers, writers, painters, actors, etc, aren’t so great at adhering to strict rules and expectations. We NEED flexibility. We NEED space for creativity. Many of us NEED to insert twists and surprises.
The more guidelines I receive regarding a story, for example, the less I want to write it.
If you, one of my wonderful reading buddies (big hugs), ask me to write Choice’s story, I’d be super eager to do that (and I will write it…soon). I won’t want to wait to get started on that bit of creativity.
If you (and I know you wouldn’t do this) ask me to write Choice’s story and you tell me he has to be matched with a Palavian male who is also a singer and they take on a mission to free artists from the Humanoid Alliance underground prisons and you give me a dozen other specifics, my muse will go on strike. I won’t want to write that story ever. It doesn’t matter how great it is.
I remember that when I work with other artists…and with bakers. I give them room to be creative.

Garden Planning for 2024
I like to plan at a very high level. I know roughly what I will do but not the details.
I have my cyborg romances planned for the next two and a half years (they will center around the crew of the Dauntless, Intrepid’s ship), for example. I know their heroes (Choice, Cure, Strike, Drift and Grid) but I have no idea about anything else. (sheepish grin)
I also have some rough ideas about what I want to do with the vegetable garden in 2024. I’ll plant tomatoes in the bed and bell peppers and herbs in containers.
AND the big addition for 2024 will be squash. I plan to plant zucchini (courgettes) and butternut squash! It will be an adventure. I’ve never ever grown them. I’m super excited about this.

Muse Food – Starfish And Origins Of Myths
When the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were in Hoonah, Alaska ago, we spotted hundreds of starfish stranded on the rocky beach during low tide.
Most of them should have been okay (including the starfish in the photo). The day was overcast. The temperatures were cool. There was water between the rocks. They should have survived.
Some of the starfish, however, were in danger of being squashed by humans. They were on popular routes and people weren’t being very cautious.
So the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I carefully moved as many of them as we could.
We joked about how those starfish would have stories to tell their buddies. They were in one place. A giant hand picked them up. And suddenly, almost miraculously, they were in another place.
(grins) That is how legends and myths are created.

Taking Out The Humanoid Alliance Leadership
The Cyborg Unity series has been all about decimating the Humanoid Alliance leadership.
The cyborgs and their females have been killing the top Humanoid Alliance Commanders. They are all bad guys. REALLY bad guys. Killing them, ironically, will save millions of lives.
And the cyborgs know better than most that it is the Humanoid Alliance leadership who are truly causing all the deaths. They were forced to kill for their cruel manufacturers. They know others are likely being forced to kill for them also.
Will the Humanoid Alliance leadership all be eliminated? No. Beings will merely be promoted and replace them. But it will throw them into temporary chaos. And that will delay wars and save lives.
