I request cover art years before a story is published. I do this to give my cover artist more time to craft the covers and to ensure I have covers. Period.
When I request covers, I usually don’t know anything about the story except who the hero (cyborg) will be. The taglines on the covers are…well…they can be perfect or they can be not-so-perfect. (grins)
Is Strive overcoming his past? I guess we’re all in some way overcoming our pasts. Strive is content with the decisions he has made. But he, like many cyborgs, is carrying trauma from his time in the Humanoid Alliance training facility.

This cyborg seeks to vanquish an ancient entity and save his curvy human female.
Euryale made a terrible mistake. She opened a container she shouldn’t have touched and released one of the oldest lifeforms in existence. That all-powerful entity is now utilizing her as its host and is slowly draining her energy.

Throwback Thursday – The Cyborg’s Secret Baby
The Cyborg’s Secret Baby is a nod to all those couples who were temporarily parted during war in the past.
One half, often the man, went off to war. The other half, often the woman, stayed home. She discovered, after they had parted, she was pregnant. There was no way to reliably communicate with the soldier. Months or years later, he returned home to discover he was a father.
Stealth and Zebrina’s situation is similar…except she thinks her cyborg has died in battle.

Gardening With Squirrels
Our backyard truly belongs to the Mafia Squirrels. They run the show. They decide what lives or doesn’t live.
But we’ve figured out a few tricks to increase the odds our vegetables and other plants will survive.
If I’m planting seeds in a planter/container, I leave a gap between the soil and the top of a planter/container. Once the seeds are planted, I cover the top with wire netting/fencing, pinning it in place with sticks (so the squirrels can’t knock it off). The squirrels are unable to easily access the soil so they leave it alone.
I stick sticks or branches in the soil around bigger plants (like the tomatoes), creating a little fence. Again, this blocks access to the actual plant. And our squirrels DO dig up tomato plants.
(Tomato cages don’t stop the squirrels. The gaps are too large.)
I walk around the garden a couple times a day and replant dug up plants. Usually if I replant them right away, they will survive.
Hot pepper flakes or sauce WILL keep the squirrels away but only for a short time.

The most famous Euryale is likely the Gorgon Euryale. She is the second eldest of three awesomely ‘monstrous’ sisters sporting snake hair and having the ability to turn beings to stone. Euryale is the daughter of the sea god and goddess Phorcys and Ceto and, unlike Medusa, she is immortal.

Muse Food – The Survivor
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this one flower growing in an otherwise empty plot.
I suspect the entire plot was sowed with seeds. But only one flower grew.
Why did this one flower survive? Was it luck? Was it the flower version of willpower? Was it genetics? Was it a combination of all of those factors?

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – June 4
This week, I focused on completing some admin tasks.

Plus I crafted the CAR for this year’s thank you story (releasing in December).

A Cyborg Named Strive
Cyborgs were given a model type and number when they were manufactured. It was inked high on their cheek. And that was how the cruel creators, the Humanoid Alliance, referred to them.
They gave themselves names. The names often reflected something important to them.
Strive chose his name because, at that time, he was merely striving to exist. He had no interest in killing or training or anything else warrior-related. And he processed that put him in danger.
After Strive and his brethren escaped the clutches of the Humanoid Alliance, he continued to strive but now, he’s striving to be the best artist he can be. And he’s striving to find his own version of calm, serenity, peace.

Throwback Thursday – Warlord Reunited
Berke appears to be the emotionally coldest Warlord. He lives on the coldest planet, a permanently-covered-with-ice planet.
