Taytu, the heroine of Raw Desires (releasing on February 21st), was raised in a culture where forgiveness was all important. Her kind embraced the concept of turning the other cheek. Hostility was frowned upon. As was vengeance.
Taytu, however, has too much anger, hate, grief within her battered soul to forgive her enemies. She wants justice for her loved ones. She fights to contain the rage within her.
But she IS conflicted.
Because the learnings from her past are d@mn difficult to discard. That culture is part of her and, even more challenging, it is part of the loved ones she seeks to avenge.

Muse Food – The Hastings Buggy And Cutter
Sometimes, when I’m trying to figure out how far we, humans, can go in the future, I look back and remind myself how far we’ve gone in the past.
Transportation is one highly visible area we’ve advanced.
Look at this buggy and cutter the Dear Wonderful Hubby spotted in Toronto. They are likely over 100 years old, were likely purchased roughly (around 1905) around the time the first American automobile was designed.
Today, we have self-driving cars.
100 years from now, I suspect we’ll finally have our flying cars.
When seeking to predict the future, consider studying the past first. I find that to be…inspiring.

Raw Desires – Third Scene Of The First Chapter

“That’s a ship.” She searched the skies. “The freighter with supplies isn’t scheduled to arrive for another forty-three planet rotations.”
That meant…
“Oh shit.” She holstered her gun, ran back inside her temporary home, grabbed the detonator, and dashed out the door.
The planet was smaller than some moons. The wreckage of the warship wasn’t located far away from her makeshift domicile.
But she was racing a ship, and she was admittedly shorter than the average human.
She ran as fast as she could toward the downed ship.
That was faster than she could’ve moved at the academy. Solar cycles of traversing the planet, burying bodies, and training for battle had increased her strength and her speed.
The approaching ship was also flying very slowly. That helped her greatly.
If it was a Humanoid Alliance vessel, and she would bet her only gun the enemy had returned, the crew was likely looking for survivors they could shoot.
They wouldn’t find anyone other than herself on the planet.
Their kind had killed everyone else.
For no fuckin’ reason.
Taytu’s jaw clenched.
Her people had been peace-loving beings. They had installed no defenses, wouldn’t have reacted to the invasion with violence.
Yet the Humanoid Alliance had chosen to obliterate the Abebans, not negotiate with them.
If the deities were just, she would soon obliterate some of them.
The incoming vessel didn’t speed up.
She arrived at the warship wreckage before they did.
The bombs had already been set around the site. She’d been liberal with the explosives, wanting to decimate as many of her foes as possible.
They were fast fuckers, however. She had to catch them off guard.
Taytu palmed the detonator, hiding the device in her hand. Three taps of her fingertips against the button, followed by one long press, would activate it.
She positioned herself behind one of the warship’s exterior panels. That would serve as a shield.
And she waited.
The engine noise grew louder. An artificial wind swept over her hiding place.
There was a loud thump. The rocks near her booted feet rattled. The noise of the engines stopped.
She braced herself, preparing for the confrontation and her impending death. The pain and her sacrifice would be worth it to avenge her loved ones.
A little bit of justice would be gained for baby Fana. And for her mom. And for the thousands of other Abebans who had wanted nothing more than happiness and harmony with the universe.
“Ours.” A female voice uttered that one word. “We retrieve the human also.”
Taytu hadn’t expected a female to be part of the recovery team. Cyborg warriors and Humanoid Alliance officers were all male. She peeked around the exterior panel.
The being leading the group did appear to be female. Her breasts were prominent, were the size of Taytu’s head.
The rest of the female was also huge. She was clad in black body armor, and she had the gray skin and energy-infused blue eyes of an early model cyborg.
Female cyborgs were rare. And they weren’t warriors. They were created for the Humanoid Alliance’s failed breeding program.
Taytu’s resolve faltered.
She could blow up the others. Her gaze shifted to the left and to the right. Those cyborgs were all males. They could’ve been some of the warriors who slaughtered her family.
But killing one of their females felt wrong.
Stars. It all felt wrong.
No. She quashed that thought. Killing the enemy wasn’t wrong. It was necessary.
Cyborgs were manufactured to end lifespans, to cause pain and death.
They’d killed sweet little Fana. Images of that tiny corpse filled Taytu’s thoughts. Her baby fingers had been tangled trustingly in her mother’s hair. She’d been so small, so innocent.
Ending a lifespan like that was wrong, horrifically wrong, yet it hadn’t stopped the enemy.
She had to stop them before they killed another innocent.
Her chin lifted.
She looked around the barrier again.
The female cyborg was wearing body armor, and she held guns in both of her hands. Beings of peace didn’t carry weapons.
Fuck it.
Taytu glared at the group. She was blowing them all up.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – February 5th
How are you doing this fine first week in February?
Raw Desires has been finalized and loaded to all booksellers. It is ready to release on the 21st.
I continue to craft the first messy draft of Strive For Forever. This fourth core story in the Cyborg Unity series is action-packed also. (grins) That is one of the defining characteristics thus far of the series – it has SO much action.
I love Strive. I love Euryale. They are great together.

Raw Desires And The Words We Speak Vs The Words We Know
Raw, the hero of Raw Desires (releasing on February 21st), feels comfortable speaking 5,082 words in the universal language.
This might seem low.
And it IS low. Raw is, admittedly, not skilled in communications. (grins)
But it isn’t as low as we might believe it is.
The average human male speaks 7,000 words a day.
Total.
Many of those words are repeated. Think of how many times we say ‘the’ or ‘a’ in a day.
Sure, the average person knows about 20,000 to 30,000 words in their birth language. Raw, in comparison, has millions of words in his databases.
But we tend to use the same words over and over.
For example, the first chapter of Raw Desires is 3,144 words long but it is crafty using only 1,030 unique words. I used ‘the’ 211 times and ‘her’ 128 times.
So having 5,082 words in regular rotation isn’t horrifying low.

Containers For Composting
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I have always composted. There is something wonderful about returning fruits, veggies, leaves and other plant materials to the earth. Composting also produces free high quality dirt and that’s the best price going. (grins)
When our city started their mass composting program, collecting our compostable stuff at the curb, I got a bit lazy about our own backyard composting. But now that we have the vegetable garden, I’ve gotten serious about it again.
When we first started composting, before the city collection program, the city supplied wonderful backyard composting bins to residents. Silly me. I only took one of them. We’re still using that compost bin today.
But we’ll soon need at least one, maybe two additional composting bins. We’ll likely go the cheapie garbage bin route. We’ll drill holes in the bottom and sides of a big garbage bin and voila, along with a well-sealing lid (to keep the critters and rain out), we’ll have a new composting bin.
It is THAT easy to create a composting bin. Some balcony gardeners create them using small pails.

Throwback Thursday – Releasing Rage
I will always be a reader first and foremost and my all time favorite type of book to read is Cyborg Romance.
Cyborg Romance is, admittedly, a fairly small niche.
It goes through times like now when there are a gazillion awesome cyborg romances being released. Stars. There have been weeks over the past year when there were multiple new cyborg romances available. And that makes my cyborg loving heart so very happy.
But there have been dry spells in the past – weeks, months, entire years when NO cyborg romances were released.
I wrote Releasing Rage during one of these dreaded dry spells. Two of my favorite writers were taking breaks from their respective cyborg romance series. Other writers saw that as a sign cyborg romances were no longer selling. I was starving for cyborg romance.
So I wrote my own story.
And I haven’t stopped writing cyborg romances. (grins) I love it so much!

Raw Desires And Talking With The Dead
In the first few scenes of Raw Desires, Taytu, the heroine, talks to her long deceased Mom.
Her Mom doesn’t talk back. She has been dead for solar cycles (years).
But Taytu knows her Mom so well she knows what her beloved departed parent would say. And talking to her gives Taytu comfort.
I also often ‘talk’ with my loved ones who have passed. I usually do this via thoughts, not spoken words.
‘Speaking’ with the dead gives me comfort. It ensures they remain part of my life and always reside in my heart. And I usually know what their replies would be also…because I know them.
Hey, this works for me. (grins) We do what we have to do to ease our sorrow and bring us happiness. And there’s nothing wrong with that!
