Kralj, the Ruler of the Refuge, is known for not interfering with happenings outside the settlement. He had enough things to manage inside it. (grins) The residents are some of the worst beings in the universe.

Is he likely to directly interfere with the conflict between the Rebel Cyborgs and the Cyborg Council?

No. But he believes in free will and he is unlikely to stop his warriors and other modified humanoids from interfering, from lending support to allies if that is needed.

Yes. Power is in deep, deep trouble. (laughs)

More Early Tools

These tools, displayed in the Altos de Chavon Regional Museum of Archaeology in La Romana, Dominican Republic, are made of stone and seem to be designed to be gripped by one hand.

This tool resembles a hatchet.

This tool looks like it could be used to smack the sh*t out of something or someone. (grins)

As Quinn says, “Stab the bad beings with the pointy end.”

I have no idea what this tool would be used for. It resembles a shark tooth.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – November 28th

Seizing Power, the fifth story in the Rebel Cyborgs series (releasing in February), has been sent to my Awesome Editor! Woot! I love this story. Power, I have to admit, wasn’t my favorite warrior when I first met him. But now? Stars. I love that arrogant a$$ so fraggin’ much. And I think you’ll love him too.

I am taking this upcoming week off writing and will be doing things like…well… sleeping. (laughs) I need to do more of that! But I will also be completing writing business stuff. I tend to ignore that when I’m working on 2^nd and 3^rd drafts.

The next story is… I don’t know. Odium’s story is hollering to be written. That will be the first story in the next cyborg series. But I also have a super cool idea for a standalone alien romance. That would be something completely different.

Have a great week, my friends. (big hugs) Treat yourself to a new-to-you romance. Have a mug of hot beverage if it is cold in your corner of the universe. Needing Valor is directly connected to B Free. The first scene is told from Valor’s point of view but it gives an update on B and Free.

NaNoWriMo And Winning

November is NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month, a month during which writers challenge themselves to write 50,000 fresh words (approximately 200 words) on a novel.

Some writing buddies have already ‘won’ NaNoWriMo. Woot! I’m so happy for you!

Some writing buddies won’t ‘win’ NaNoWriMo but HAVE written fresh words this month. Woot! I’m happy for you also.

Some writing buddies have a 0 word count month but they are surviving November. Woot! I’m happy for you!

I NEVER win NaNoWriMo. It takes me about 2 months to craft a submission draft of my 56,000 word stories. That does include all 3 preliminary drafts, submitting the story at the end of the second month to my Awesome Editor. But those 2^nd and 3^rd draft take only about 2 weeks.

And you know what? That’s okay. That’s my process. It works for me. I’ve written hundreds of stories this way. Writing at this speed makes me happy.

Writing isn’t a race or a competition. If you find joy in it, you’ve already won.

Throwback Thursday – Doc’s Orders

Doc’s Orders is a pandemic-themed cyborg romance I wrote long before the COVID-19 pandemic happened here on Earth. At that time, my scientist buddies had been warning me we were overdue for a pandemic…and they were unfortunately right.

Other influences on this story were articles about how we’re bringing our bacteria into space with us, how scientists work hard to determine whether lifeforms on Mars, for example, were always on that planet or we had merely transported them there during previous missions.

And, of course, spreading disease is ALWAYS a factor when two groups of beings meet. This is why there are laws around contacting isolated and remote peoples. They don’t have our immunities and…well…we don’t have theirs either.

But don’t worry! Doc’s Orders IS a romance. It has the expected romance ending. You should get that happy glow at the end of this story. And you will find out more about Cadet and the Rebel Cyborgs.

Doc’s Orders

She wants both sides of her cyborg—the medic AND the beast.

A fully functional cyborg is balanced. His machine half and his organic half work together to produce the perfect warrior.

Doc isn’t fully functional.

The G Model operates at the two extremes. When his machine is in complete control, he’s the logic-driven medic, saving lifespans. Once his organics take charge, he becomes the savage beast…and beings die.

Both sides of Doc want to be the first to claim his female.

Allinen is one of the few beings in her small settlement who wasn’t born with a fated mate. Determined to belong somewhere, she has crafted a plan to leave the planet.

That plan doesn’t involve a huge stormy-eyed male who alternates between cool seduction and out-of-control ravishment. Doc isn’t her fated mate. Allinen knows that. But his dual nature and forbidden embraces tempt her to forget forever and indulge in more immediate delights.

Neither side of Doc views their relationship as being temporary. Her conflicted cyborg is prepared to battle her family, her planet and death itself to keep her.

Seizing Power And Standalones

I’m currently working on the second draft of Seizing Power, the fifth core story in the Rebel Cyborgs series (releasing in February) and I realized that, although Power and Cadet/Eirene Ours’ romance CAN be read on its own, it is so much better read after you’ve read many of the other stories in the cyborg world.

There are brief appearances by…well…just about everyone. There are ties to almost every other story in the cyborg world. These references will make more sense to you if you’ve read some…many of the other stories.

Anyhoo… I thought I’d give you that head’s up as there are quite a few stories in the world.

B Free And Next Stories

The next core story in the Rebel Cyborgs series is Seizing Power (releasing in February).

But the very next story is Needing Valor, this year’s free thank you short story. Needing Valor should be available December 7^th at the latest.

We first meet Valor in Containing Malice. He is Malice’s best friend, was locked in his own chamber in the underground laboratory. Now that he is free, he helps newcomers to Mercury Minor, the Rebel Cyborg-controlled planet, adjust to their new surroundings.

Cyborgs And Resilience

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this plant in our travels.

It was growing in a tiny crack in the sidewalk. And it was not only surviving. It was thriving. The plant, a weed some people might call it, was almost as tall as my knees and it is baring fruit/seeds! Look at how healthy and strong it is!

It reminds me of the cyborgs. They weren’t given the best start. The Humanoid Alliance, their manufacturers, hurt them in all the ways a being could be hurt.

Yet they survived. They escaped. They are now thriving. They’re finding lasting love, manufacturing offspring, living their best lifespans.

That gives me hope for all of us. (big hugs)

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – November 21st

B Free released this week! Woot! I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. I love B and Quinn. They are magical together.

I have finally completed the first draft of Seizing Power (releasing in February). Whew. Both Power and Eirene Ours/Cadet survived. (grins) That’s an achievement for this couple. They are both warriors and passions…and rage run high when they finally meet face-to-face.
