The Good Assistant Releases

By Cynthia Sax on October 21, 2015

Woot!

The Good Assistant releases today!

My boss, John Powers, represents everything I want in a man. He’s the CEO and founder of a powerful company, that position having made him a billionaire, striking in an I-survived-a-bar-brawl sort of way, and too clever for my sanity.

I’m his assistant and desperately in love with him. I’d willingly serve him both in the boardroom and in the bedroom.

There’s one problem.

He doesn’t mix business with pleasure.

Ever.

Beginnings, Endings and Releasing Rage

By Cynthia Sax on October 19, 2015

How do you feel when a beloved series ends?
Are you sad that it is ending or excited to see what the writer writes next?

I’m talking about beginnings and endings at Liza O’Connor ‘s online home today.

http://multiuniversesoflizao.blogspot.ca/2015/10/endings-new-beginnings-by-cynthia-sax.html

Here’s a snippet…

Putting on my reader hat, I’m always torn when a series I love ends. On one hand, I know I’ll miss the characters and the world the writer created. I’m also a bit worried that I won’t love the next series as much as I love the current one. On the other hand, the next series could be even better! Writers normally refine their craft with every story they write, every series they plot. The odds that the next series will be even more terrific is pretty darn good.

Half Man. Half Machine. All Hers.

Rage, the Humanoid Alliance’s most primitive cyborg, has two goals—kill all of the humans on his battle station and escape to the Homeland. The warrior has seen the darkness in others and in himself. He believes that’s all he’s been programmed to experience.
Until he meets Joan.

Joan, the battle station’s first female engineer, has one goal—survive long enough to help the big sexy cyborg plotting to kill her. Rage might not trust her but he wants her. She sees the passion in his eyes, the caring in his battle-worn hands, the gruff emotion in his voice.

When Joan survives the unthinkable, Rage’s priorities are tested. Is there enough room in this cyborg’s heart for both love and revenge?

Releasing Rage, NaNoWriMo and Kick Starting The Muse

By Cynthia Sax on October 19, 2015

What do you do to kick start the muse? #NaNoWriMo #Writingtips

I’ll often change where I physically am.

I’m talking about that today on Tara Quan’s online home

http://www.taraquan.com/blog/cs

Here’s a snippet…

Tara and I both love to travel. (hugs Tara) For me, there’s nothing more inspiring, more likely to kick start the muse than a different neighborhood, city, country.

When Rage and his cyborg brethren in Releasing Rage were escaping the Humanoid Alliance, traveling through space to get to the Homeland, I pictured the time the hubby and I took a commercial flight during a meteor shower.

When the cyborgs were restricted to the battle station, I recalled how I felt when we took a transatlantic cruise. We were confined to a vessel in the middle of an ocean. We couldn’t leave even if we wanted to. We saw the same faces every day. We were on the captain’s timetable, at his mercy.

Releasing Rage and Enemies To Lovers

By Cynthia Sax on October 17, 2015

Do you love enemies to lovers storylines?

I DO!

I’m talking about this on Teresa Noelle Roberts’ online home today.

http://www.teresanoelleroberts.com/?p=2097

Here’s a snippet…

“The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.” – Elie Wiesel

One of my favorite storylines in SciFi romance is enemies to lovers. The couple (or more) starts the story hating each other with a fierce, world-burning passion. They end the story loving each other with the same ferocity.

Teresa does this storyline oh so well. (Edit: Thank you so much, Cynthia!) As Rahal says to Xia in Bad Kitty, “You make death threats seem like the most erotic thing ever.” There’s the hint of danger throughout the early scenes. We’re not sure if the temporary peace between them will hold.

Releasing Rage And Dealing With Mid Story Writer’s Block

By Cynthia Sax on October 17, 2015

Getting ready for NaNoWriMo ?

I’m talking about mid story writer’s block on EJ Frost ‘s online home

https://emmafrostuk.wordpress.com/2015/10/17/dealing-with-mid-story-writers-block-with-cynthia-sax/

Here’s a snippet…

I found EJ’s post on techniques she’s using to finish Throwing Fire so interesting. I thought I’d share my own tricks for defeating mid story writer’s block.

This is a common problem for ALL writers. If we’re fortunate to have long writing careers, we will all experience what I like to call word constipation. It’s always great to have a toolbox full of techniques to try when this affliction strikes. I usually keep trying techniques until there’s a break-through and the words flow once again.

SciFi Saturday News – Alien Technology Spotted, Wormholes and Rey from Star Wars

By Cynthia Sax on October 17, 2015

Here are the stories that gave me SciFi romance plot bunnies this week…

Possible Alien Technology

This story was brought to my attention by Danica Avet and A.M. Griffin.

Bryan Nelson shares

“Nestled between the constellations of Cygnus and Lyra sits what might be the strangest, most mysterious star in our galaxy. This star, designated as KIC 8462852, is not particularly unusual in and of itself. What’s odd is what astronomers have spotted orbitting it: an irregularly-shaped mess of objects that appear unnatural, possibly even alien, reports The Atlantic.”

Wormholes, Dark Energy And Dark Matter

Nothing excites me like wormholes (tunnels in space-time) and yes, there’s been progress on researching them.

Physicist Eric Davis shares

“It would be extremely difficult to construct a wormhole time machine. It’s relatively much simpler to use wormholes for FTL interstellar travel between the stars.”

Possible Alien Megastructure?

A mysteriously flicking star has been captured by Kepler and there’s no logical explanation for it.

Michio Kaku shares

“This is an oddball, a real oddball. Kepler for years has been giving us a catalog of over 1,000 extra-solar planets and this is the first oddball out of hundreds of thousands of stars scanned. This is the first one that does not fit the usual scenario.”

Some Space Technology Patents

Here are some super cool patents for space technology, perfect for any SciFi Romance Writer’s research file.

http://www.techrepublic.com/pictures/photos-10-patents-for-invention-and-innovation-in-outer-space/

More Star Wars Tidbits

Rey, the new female characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is causing buzz.

Donna Dickens shares

“Thanks to Topps Star Wars trading cards, now there is definitive proof that not only does Rey know Han and Chewie…but she knows them well enough to pilot that hunk of junk.”

The Week shares

“Rey, the new female character in Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens, will be “extremely significant”, the movie’s producer Kathleen Kennedy has promised.

In an interview in which she called on Hollywood to do more to promote women, Kennedy fuelled speculation that Rey – played by English actress Daisy Ridley – is a descendant of the Skywalkers.”

What SciFi news inspired you this week?

Anna From The Seen Trilogy

By Cynthia Sax on October 17, 2015

Awww… Laurell Emily Grey mentioned me in an interview.
(getting misty eyed)

http://authorclassifieds.com/2015/10/16/a-naughty-night-of-terror-interview-laurell-emily-grey/

Here’s a snippet…

Q: If you could be a character in any book for one day what title and character would you choose and why?

Laurell Emily Grey: Well this is a tough question!! So many wonderful books out there by so many talented authors. I think I would like to be Anna Sampson from Cynthia Sax’s novella He Claims Me. Part three of the Seen Series. Hot sex scenes, lovely conflict, and I loved the ending. Side note, because of this Series, I found a true love for reading (I hated reading for years.) So thanks to Cynthia, I began to be addicted and never looked back.

He Watches Me From Cynthia Sax

She desires to be seen. He wants to watch.

Anna Sampson has a naughty secret. Every night, she slips into her neighbor’s yard and swims naked in his pool. She fantasizes that the dynamic young billionaire watches her nightly nude aquatics, his brilliant green eyes gleaming with lust.

She discovers this isn’t pure fantasy. Gabriel Blaine has been watching her via his security cameras, and now that he has returned to L.A., he doesn’t plan to stop. That’s all he wants—to watch. Anna knows she shouldn’t allow him and she certainly shouldn’t want more, but she craves Blaine’s attention, needing his gaze fixed on her body.

Releasing Rage – Is Joan Weak?

By Cynthia Sax on October 16, 2015

One of the most common questions I receive from readers, especially non-BDSM readers, is ‘Why does Joan submit to Rage?” Some readers believe this response makes her weak.

Weak is not a word I would use to describe Joan. She has endured the death of her family, survived war, was one of the only females in her classes, has dealt with a lifespan of discrimination. She knows who she is, what her worth is, and is almost too single-mindedly fixed on achieving her goal—helping the cyborgs who helped her. She is not a weak female.

Why does she act submissively when she first meets Rage? Joan is intelligent. She grew up on an agri-lot, a futuristic farm. When faced with a predator, say an enraged wolf, she knows the worst action a being can take is to be equally aggressive. Aggression feeds aggression (like the ‘Great Evil’ in The Fifth Element). The situation would quickly escalate, spinning out of control.

So she submits, showing Rage a respect, a deference that surprises him and disarms his anger. He doesn’t know how to deal with it.

As this technique clearly works with Rage and Joan is an intelligent female, she continues using it and she finds she enjoys submitting. Rage is appeased. She achieves her goal—he allows her to help him. She also savors the break from being alone, from making ALL the decisions ALL the time.

Joan doesn’t have to prove her strength by fighting Rage unnecessarily. She knows she’s strong. Would she battle him if she felt strongly about a decision? Definitely. She was willing to die to protect Rage. She would certainly battle her warrior cyborg if it meant protecting him.

Submission doesn’t mean weakness.

Talking Baby Cyborgs And Releasing Rage

By Cynthia Sax on October 16, 2015

I’m at Readers Retreat today, talking about Releasing Rage and baby cyborgs. (Note: there is the cutest baby cyborg in Breathing Vapor)

http://readersretreat.com/2015/10/releasing-rage/

Here’s a snippet…

In Releasing Rage, I also wanted to explore two things

1) Why would a being (a cyborg) manufactured as the perfect soldier rebel against his manufacturers? Loyalty is part of the soldier code.

And

2) How ARE cyborgs manufactured?

Yes, I wanted to learn about cyborg babies!

Warning: They’re absolutely adorable.

Talking Genetic Engineering And Releasing Rage

By Cynthia Sax on October 15, 2015

If you genetically engineer a human with one trait, what trait would you choose? Why?

I’m talking about cyborgs and genetic engineering at Travis Luedke ‘s online home

http://thenightlifeseries.blogspot.ca/2015/10/genetically-engineered-heroes-and.html

Here’s a snippet…

Want the perfect lover? The perfect assassin? The perfect being?

Design him or her.

This isn’t yet possible but it isn’t as ridiculous a suggestion as it was a decade ago. We’ve cloned animals (and, I suspect, humans – though no one will admit to this). We’ve replaced defective genes with effective ones. There are experiments happening right now in laboratories that could change who or what we are.

It is this ‘could’ that fascinates many SciFi romance writers, including Travis and myself.
