Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – February 16
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this sleeping kitty in an artist’s studio in Bermuda.
(smiles)
I haven’t yet decided what to do with the Moonbeam stories.
I really want to republish them but I suspect, by the time they’re ready to be published (the covers are crafted and the sets are formatted), booksellers won’t list them.
And the publishing process requires effort by numerous people. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time. Time is so very precious.
Have a wonderful week, my friends. (big hugs) Take some of that precious time and spend it on something that gives YOU happiness. Listen to a favorite song. Reread a favorite romance novel. Dance around in your underwear. Give yourself that gift!

A proud cyborg medic meets his human match.
***
Cyra has tasks to complete before she dies.
There are patients to heal, a dangerous mission to undertake, and a world to save. She doesn’t have time to entertain uninvited guests.
Especially one coldhearted cyborg medic who thinks he’s better than her.
The male might be breathtakingly handsome. His sternly set lips might be extremely kissable. And his touch might draw out a passion she didn’t think she was capable of feeling.
But he’s also a distraction, one that might doom millions of innocent beings to a painful, horrible death.
Cure isn’t emotionless. He feels…greatly. Listening to that malfunction has caused other beings pain and suffering in the past.
He refuses to allow his desires to cloud his judgment now.
His resolve is tested when he’s forced to associate with the most provoking, alluring medic in the universe.
Cyra is his genetic match, the one being in the universe he is fated to protect, touch, claim. She’s clever and beautiful, and the need to hold her almost downs his systems.
But now is not the time to indulge his great wanting.
Cure has an assignment to complete.
If he fails to accomplish his goals, everyone he cares for, including his human female, will die.

Lemurs In Madagascar
The Dear Wonderful Hubby arranged for the two of us to go on a private tour with a world renowned naturalist in Madagascar. This naturalist has appeared in many documentaries and often shows scientists and other visitors the land he clearly loves and knows VERY well.
He took us to the Amber Mountain National Park and…we saw lemurs! (And a gazillion other critters and plants)
We saw two large groups of them. They were in the trees but clearly visible. They were cuddling with their babies and chattering. There was much fruit eating and some sh*tting (NEVER look upward with your mouth open. The naturalist told us how some visitors learned that lesson the hard way. – grins).
Very few visitors, unfortunately, saw lemurs even though our naturalist tried to help the other guides find them. But many of those groups could be heard from far away. And those visitors were unable to move off the main paths.
Wild lemurs prefer to avoid humans.
One lady was exhausted and crying because seeing lemurs in the wild was her purpose for the tour she’d taken and it was unlikely she’d do that. I felt bad for her.
But there is never any guarantee of seeing wild animals. Stars. The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I have trekked around countless Northern Ontario (Canada) boreal forests and he has yet to see a moose in the wild. I’ve seen countless numbers of them but only when I’ve been without him. Not seeing any wildlife IS a possibility. (Which is why I love that I love plants and trees also. They are usually stationary.)

Uses For Yard Waste
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I, when we first moved into our home, would, every two weeks, send our yard waste, our tree trimmings and pulled plants and other natural debris, off to the city for composting.
We would then have to fertilize our yard AND add soil to it. Both the nutrients and a portion of the soil were being depleted.
Because we were sending those nutrients and other components to the soil to the city for composting.
Yard waste is basically our land in another form. Trees, grass and other plants take from the soil while they grow.
When we ship yard waste off site, we’re giving away our land, land we worked hard to obtain.
We stopped doing that. (sheepish grin)
Now, we compost all the yard waste that we can. That compost is returned to garden beds and the rest of the yard.
We bury the big tree limbs or prunings in the yard (this is called Hügelkultur), building back up our land. This is especially useful to improve gradients, especially around the house.
We don’t bag our grass clippings. (And we haven’t had to fertilize the lawn since doing this.)
Leaves are stacked high on garden beds over the Winter. They serve as leaf mulch in the Spring. And gradually break down to feed the soil. We haven’t used additional fertilizers, other than our own compost and coffee grounds we obtained from coffee shops for free, on our garden beds since doing this.
Our yard is more of a closed system now. What is used is returned to it. (The little that can’t be returned is offset by food scraps, coffee grounds and leaves we obtained from other places.)
And our yard has benefited greatly from this change!

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this gorgeous cat while we were trekking around Dubai.

I won’t be linking to B&N’s online bookstore going forward. They have, thus far, delisted 33 of my 69 titles. Will B&N delete more of my stories? I don’t know.
(big sigh)
What does that mean for future releases?
Everything is on hold. For now. Because I don’t know what the future will look like, my friends. (shrugs)
But I AM wishing you an absolutely wonderful week. (big hugs) Read some steamy romance novels. Savor every word, every man titty-fabulous cover. (grins) Enjoy the NOW, the present. Carve out some happiness in this fantastical ever-changing world. You deserve it!

Muse Food – The Beings We Celebrate
When the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were in London, UK, we briefly stopped at the National Portrait Gallery (Admission is FREE!).
There were thousands of portraits on display.
I suspect there were more portraits stored in back rooms.
And I found it fascinating to see which portraits the National Portrait Gallery obtained and decided to display.
That is SO revealing of what and WHO they and society value.
What portraits would be displayed in your world?

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this pretty kitty while we were trekking around Dubai.
The corporate tax returns are DONE! Whew! That is NOT my favorite part of this awesome career. That is for certain! But they’ve been completed for the year and I’m thankful for that.
I’ve decided to put together a third Cyborg World Omnibus. I already have the cover (which is GORGEOUS and deserves to be seen). It will feature already released stories. The Dear Wonderful Hubby formats my stories and omnibuses for free. And someone might enjoy it.
Hey, why not?
(grins)
Have a wonderful week, my friend. (big hugs) Do you have something – a cover, workout gear, a can of soup – you’re not using? Consider using it or give it away to someone else who will use it. Put that positive energy out into the universe!

Reunion Island And The Importance Of Timing
A church and banyan tree on Reunion Island.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I explored Reunion Island via public bus.
On one bus ride, we sat behind a very enthusiastic fellow tourist. He was taking photos of EVERYTHING from his seat near the window.
We could see his screen and…
All his photos were of posts and trees and random buildings.
He captured NOTHING he intended to capture.
He’d see a site, excitedly lift his phone and then take his sweet time framing the shot and tapping the button.
By the time he took the photo, the bus had moved far from the site.
The man did this again and again.
He was five or so seconds behind on EVERY shot.
(grins)
All I could do was shake my head.

This cat was spotted in Mauritius and perfectly encompasses my laziness level today. (grins)
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I have returned to our annual trek to Vegas for the CES (Consumers Electronics Show). We paired it with an 8 night cruise out of LA along the west coast. And we had an awesome time.
This upcoming week, we have to complete the corporate income tax return and…sleep.
Have a wonderful week, my friends! (tackle hugs) I hope it is a sleep-filled one for you also. Take care of yourself. Drink some water. Get some fresh air. Laugh and love and LIVE. Treasure your time on this fantastical planet!

Madagascar, Zebus And Dowries
We saw many zebus as we were being driven around Madagascar. These big humped cows are a huge part of the locals’ culture.
Our awesome guide shared that a zebu was a big part of the traditional dowry (a gift from the groom to the bride’s family). But the zebu had to be female as they are good for milk and babies, in addition to meat, riding, farm work, etc. To give a male zebu was an insult.
If the bride’s family lived too far away to send the animal itself, the equivalent funds to buy a female zebu could often be sent.
The penalty in Madagascar for stealing a chicken was five years in prison. I don’t want to think about what the penalty for stealing a zebu would be!

Flamboyant Trees In Mauritius
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were fortunate to visit Mauritius while the flamboyant trees were blooming. They traditionally bloom from November to January and WOW, their blooms are a bright, happy orange.
A driver called them New Year Trees, sharing that they signify luck for the new year. Another person called them Christmas Trees. The Mauritius Tourism Facebook account calls them “bouquet banané’ or flower of the year. By any name, they’re beautiful!
