Testing Truth And Breaking The Series Into Subseries
A reading buddy (big hugs) asked me, “Why did you break the cyborg series into smaller series? Why didn’t you keep it as one long series?”
Cyborg Space Exploration was broken into a subseries because I felt it had a different feel to it. The Cyborg Sizzle subseries was all about the cyborgs escaping the Humanoid Alliance and venturing to their Homeland. Cyborg Space Exploration is about…well…space exploration. (laughs) I know. I’m not very creative when it comes to titles or series names.
Cyborg Space Exploration is more Star Trek than Star Wars. And we all know fans of Star Trek aren’t necessarily fans of Star Wars. (Though I am fans of both worlds. I LOVE them for very different reasons.)
I also wanted reading buddies to be able to start and stop the longer series and creating subseries are my suggestions of when they could best do that.
Sure, reading buddies of solely the Cyborg Space Exploration subseries won’t know the full impact of how the cyborgs fought to escape the Humanoid Alliance (in the Cyborg Sizzle subseries) and they won’t know how the Cyborg Council deals with the Rebel Cyborgs (in the upcoming Rebel Cyborgs subseries) but they will know the core stories of the crew of the Reckless.
That gives those reading buddies a bit of closure.
The upcoming Cyborg Rebels subseries won’t (hopefully) be the final subseries. I have three more subseries planned thus far, including the Next Generation Cyborgs subseries. (grins) I know many reading buddies are waiting for those stories.

Testing Truth
A fun-loving cyborg gets serious about love.
***
Truth lives each moment as though it were his last. The cyborg warrior rushes into danger, teases beings he shouldn’t provoke, accepts every call of adventure he encounters.
When a prissy little human princess floats into the Rebel structure Truth is occupying, seeking a mercenary to assist her and her unusual entourage, he volunteers to be her warrior. She claims their assignment is dangerous, warns him he might not survive the task.
That is exactly the type of fun he has been seeking.
Princess Nanette of the planet Royaume must rescue her estranged brother from an enemy prison ship. That is her duty, and she has been trained to always place the needs of her planet and her subjects before her own. Nancy doesn’t have the freedom to indulge her passions for a certain dark-haired, gray-skinned cyborg. Not permanently and not publicly.
But she is unable to resist the warrior. Truth, with his laughing eyes, smiling lips, and rough hands, tempts her as no one else ever has. He could be her one fleeting act of rebellion before she’s matched with the powerful ruler her planet requires.
If they survive their current mission.
Their love is doomed. Their lifespans are at risk. This cyborg and his princess will need the help of every ally they have if they wish to see another sunrise.

Testing Truth And Baddies
In fairy tales (which I LOVE), the good beings are often clearly good and the bad beings are often clearly bad. The Princess never harms good beings and the Wicked Witch never helps good beings. Their roles are clear. We usually know which characters to cheer for.
The stories in the cyborg series, including Testing Truth, aren’t fairy tales. (grins) Nancy, the heroine of Testing Truth, might be a Princess but she harms some good beings (Were the Rebels in the beverage outlet good? They are fighting for the ‘good’ side.). Truth, our cyborg hero, loves to kill beings and he’s not too fussy about who he kills.
The Humanoid Alliance are the big baddies in the series yet many of the heroines were once aligned (sometimes unwillingly, sometimes out of lack of knowledge) with the Humanoid Alliance. Joan, the heroine of Releasing Rage, worked for them as an engineer.
There are random minor characters who are aligned with the Humanoid Alliance and do the right thing also—looking the other way when beings escape, refusing to fight for them, walking away from situations they don’t fully support.
No one is all good. No one is all bad.
(grins) Beings are complicated.

Testing Truth And Found Families
Princess Nancy, the heroine of Testing Truth, is surrounded by family.
She has her biological family. Her parents are the Queen and the King and her two brothers are the Crown Prince and the Prince. Her arrangement with her biological family is very business-like and extremely cold. She is not seen as a daughter or a sister but as the Spare to the Heir. There are no hugs or kisses, no ‘I love you’s, very few smiles and little warmth.
There’s a reason for that. The Queen feels she must always put her Kingdom first. That might mean sacrificing one of her children. That’s easier to do if she isn’t emotionally attached to them.
Thankfully, Princess Nancy also has a found family. The relationship between her Royal Dresser, her Private Secretary and her Private Guard might seem like duty-driven roles. But Marthe, Valentin, and Claude view her as their own daughter. They would kill for her, die for her. They and their love are always nearby.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I think of my reading and writing buddies as part of our found family also. (group hugs) Like Princess Nancy with her entourage, I suspect I’m not supposed to care as much as I do about you…yet I do. Some of you have been with me for years and I love that. I love you.

Testing Truth And Dressing Like A Princess
Often, the heroines in my stories dress in flight suits and other super practical garments. They’re medics and warriors and engineers. The females are active (especially after meeting their cyborgs, modified humanoids or aliens – grins) and they get dirty (in all sorts of ways).
It was a treat to record Princess Nancy’s story, to describe her dressed in her big poufy ball gowns and her glittering tiaras. Her dresses and assorted accessories are brightly colored and sparkly and extremely impractical. But they are expected for her. She is Royaume Royalty and has to play the part. The garments do what they are designed to do—attract attention, impress, signal that a Princess isn’t like a normal female.
Of course, Nancy also has more practical garments. Her ship is designed for her big ball gowns but she can’t sweep into a Rebel beverage outlet filled with rough, tough warriors in a huge, dazzling dress. She has flight suit-type garments for the occasions when she doesn’t want to attract attention, when she has to run and kick and fight.
She IS a heroine and heroines tend to be extremely active. (grins)

Testing Truth And Drakons
In Testing Truth, Dissent discovers a drakon in a cage in the beverage outlet on Nereid Negative One. The creature-loving cyborg is immediately enchanted with the tiny, dark red mini-dragon. They communicate. He feeds the drakon pieces of raw meat. They bond.
Some reading buddies have asked, “What happened to the drakon? Did Dissent return him to his home planet?”
The drakon was born in captivity and doesn’t remember his home planet. He also has a tight bond with the Gegenee, the six-armed bartender. He considers the humanoid to be his family and he is very possessive and protective of his family.
The cage surrounding the drakon isn’t there to ensure he remains captured. It is there to prevent patrons from bothering him and to stop him from lighting them on fire. (grins) Drakons don’t have the easiest of tempers.
There is a drakon in Warlord’s Return, the sixth and final story in the Chamele Barbarian Warlords series (releasing in November). We’ll learn more about drakons and their touchy temperaments in that story. (This story can be read on its own.)

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – September 27th
I’m three chapters into the first draft of Containing Malice (releasing in February) and I absolutely LOVE it! I love it so much; I was supposed to take today off writing and I can’t. I MUST write a couple more scenes because I can’t wait until tomorrow to find out what happens. Yeah. (grins) That’s how interesting I find this story.
My primary focus for the upcoming week is to write five more chapters in Containing Malice. That’s it. That’s all. (laughs) The life of a writer isn’t that glamorous, is it? We sit in front of our screens all day and write.
My goal is to send Containing Malice to my Awesome Editor by the end of October. That, even with the slowdown around the holidays, should ensure it will be ready to release in February.
I’ll also be doing the usual this week – chatting with reading/writing buddies, admin stuff, promoting Testing Truth, trying to get my Facebook account reactivated, things like that.
And I’ll be enjoying the Autumn in my area of the universe. The leaves are turning. The big Maple Tree outside the bedroom window has decided to turn a bright, Halloween-like orange this year. (Last year, it turned bright yellow.) Squirrels are busily hiding pieces of bagels (the huge German neighbor supplies those to them) on our exterior windowsills (which is extremely clever because they’re ‘hidden’ there yet they won’t be covered with snow).

Upcoming Cynthia Sax Stories
Some reading buddies are asking if the cyborg series has ended.
No!
Holding Hoarse will release in December. This FREE thank you short story will be part of the Cyborg Space Exploration series. We first met Hoarse, the big ulu/doll-making C Model, in Passion Surge.
Then, in February, Containing Malice, the first story in the Rebel Cyborgs series, will release. If you enjoyed Releasing Rage, I think you might like this story.
Malice has been kept in a Humanoid Alliance underground lab. Transmissions have been blocked and he is unaware his brethren have rebelled. He is angry and a bit damaged and he wants to kill his female (and his reasons for wanting to end her lifespan are completely justified…based on the information he has).
There will be six stories in the Rebel Cyborgs series. The last one will belong to Power and his heroine. That one will be EXPLOSIVE.
And, of course, Warlord’s Return, the sixth and final story in the Chamele Barbarian Warlords series, will be releasing in November. The Chameles return to the Refuge, the home of Kralj and Dita from Dark Thoughts. We will get an update on how the Modified Humanoids are doing!

Will Cyborgs Ever Learn To Lie?
While cyborgs were under the Humanoid Alliance’s cruel control, their knowledge of the universe was restricted to all things battle-related. They might have observed other things. Chuckles, for example, noted the rocks on the planets he and his brethren had invaded. But their focus was fighting.
Now that the cyborgs have freed themselves, they’ve learned new information about the universe, about other beings, about themselves.
Green, for example, has indulged his love for plants and has shared his newfound knowledge with his brethren. Cyborgs now likely know more than they ever wanted to know about vegetation. LOL
As they explore planets and bond with the female living there, they learn about different cultures, about religion, about art.
Hoarse, the hero of December’s short story, for example, crafts ulus or dolls. He perceives that as a necessary offspring-rearing skill to be mastered but you and I realize the tough, rough C Model is indulging his creative, artist side. Relay, with his collection of lullabies, is also dipping his E Model toes into art.
Cyborgs are changing, are evolving and I find that extremely exciting to witness and to explore.
A reading buddy asked me if cyborgs would ever learn how to lie. Would they master the dubious skill of fabricating the truth?
Cyborgs HAVE learned other beings, including their females, can lie. They’ve learned how to recognize that and they realize that lying is sometimes the best tactic.
But they will never have the ability to lie. That is hard coded into their program and they wouldn’t risk damaging themselves to remove it.
Many of them also view it as a dishonorable tactic. They would prefer to utilize other tactics like evasion or misdirection.
Cyborgs will change but some things will remain constant. Most of them will always love fighting. All of them would die before allowing another being to harm their genetic matches (their females or males or others). And they will never have the ability to fabricate the truth.

Testing Truth – Royaume Relationship Constructs
Princess Nancy, the heroine of Testing Truth, originates from the planet Royaume.
Royaume isn’t a perfect civilization. They have issues like almost every civilization that has ever existed (Thus far! I have great hope for the future.).
But one of the many things they do right is express tolerance for different relationship constructs.
Nancy’s entourage, Claude, Valentin, and Marthe, are in an extremely happy M/M/F relationship. They hold high rankings at court. Nancy doesn’t think there’s anything unusual with their relationship, which tells us this relationship construct is fairly common on Royaume.
I’ve had some questions from reading buddies about M/M and F/F relationships. Are those accepted? Would a M/M or F/F relationship be accepted even if…say…a future Crown Prince or Crown Princess was part of one?
I believe it WOULD be accepted. There would be some initial concern about line of succession but once that was solidified and shared with subjects, I think those concerns would fade away.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – September 20th
Testing Truth released last week and I LOVED hearing your feedback on this latest cyborg romance. (group hugs) Many of you took moments out of your busy days to help spread the word about Testing Truth, to message me, to leave reviews and that meant the universe to me. I really appreciate it and I appreciate YOU.
The next release under Cynthia Sax is Warlord’s Return, the 6th and final story in the Chamele Barbarian Warlords series. It is releasing November 3rd. Warlord’s Return brings us back to the Refuge, home to Kralj and Dita from Dark Thoughts. I loved seeing them again and I think you will love that also.
In early December, Holding Hoarse will be releasing. This cyborg romance short story is my holiday/year end gift to you. (more hugs) There will be no pre-orders on this story as booksellers don’t allow pre-orders on FREE stories.
This week, I’m continuing to work on the first draft of Containing Malice, the opening story in the Rebel Cyborgs series. It will be releasing in February and I think you’ll really enjoy it.
I also have a short story collection releasing under C.S. Sax on Tuesday. Medieval Dragon Shifters is about…well…medieval dragon shifters. (laughs) My titles for my short story collections won’t be super creative.
You can see more information about Medieval Dragon Shifters here: http://CSSax.com .
Do I think readers of my cyborg romances will enjoy the Medieval Dragon Shifters collection? Every reader is different and special but I think there will only be a rare few who will enjoy both.
The Medieval Dragon Shifters stories are in a completely different subgenre of romance, are different story lengths, are much lighter in tone, are sexier yet much less violent and they are written in a different style. (grins) That’s why I am publishing these stories under a slightly different name.
