Muse Food – Shelter In Tree

By Cynthia Sax on October 14, 2024

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this awesome tree when we were trekking around Alaska.

You likely can’t detect it from the photo but the sheltered area was plenty large enough to accommodate both of us. We truly could shelter in the tree (not fully standing up but width wise).

Homes don’t have to be constructed. On some alien planets, homes could be grown. The planet could provide shelter. And wouldn’t that be an interesting bit of world building?

Claiming Cure

A proud cyborg medic meets his human match.

***

Cyra has tasks to complete before she dies.

There are patients to heal, a dangerous mission to undertake, and a world to save. She doesn’t have time to entertain uninvited guests.

Especially one coldhearted cyborg medic who thinks he’s better than her.

The male might be breathtakingly handsome. His sternly set lips might be extremely kissable. And his touch might draw out a passion she didn’t think she was capable of feeling.

But he’s also a distraction, one that might doom millions of innocent beings to a painful, horrible death.

Cure isn’t emotionless. He feels…greatly. Listening to that malfunction has caused other beings pain and suffering in the past.

He refuses to allow his desires to cloud his judgment now.

His resolve is tested when he’s forced to associate with the most provoking, alluring medic in the universe.

Cyra is his genetic match, the one being in the universe he is fated to protect, touch, claim. She’s clever and beautiful, and the need to hold her almost downs his systems.

But now is not the time to indulge his great wanting.

Cure has an assignment to complete.

If he fails to accomplish his goals, everyone he cares for, including his human female, will die.

***

Claiming Cure is a standalone Cyborg SciFi Romance set in a dark, gritty, sometimes-violent universe.

It features two skilled medics determined to ignore the toe-curling attraction between them, a perilous impossible mission, and foes seeking to ensure they never heal another being ever again.

Claiming Cure And Assumptions

By Cynthia Sax on October 12, 2024

Cure assumes his contact on Cancri B is male and humanoid.

He has based this assumption on probabilities. The odds his contact is male are very high. The odds that contact is Cancri are also very high.

But Cyra, his female human contact, defies the odds. In all ways. (grins) Cure will soon realize that.

Claiming Cure And Taking Every Comment Literally

By Cynthia Sax on October 11, 2024

Cure might be one of the least socially adept heroes I’ve ever written. (grins)

Cyborgs don’t have the ability to lie, which means they also don’t have the ability to use sarcasm. Some cyborgs can detect it in others.

Cure…doesn’t detect sarcasm in anyone. He takes everything said to him literally and that is often EXTREMELY humorous.

For others. Not always for him.

He also isn’t the best at picking up on hints. He prefers beings tell him exactly what they want and share exactly what they mean.

That is convenient because he’ll soon meet face-to-face with a human medic who isn’t shy about telling him exactly what she thinks of him. (laughs)

Gardening – Dividing The Irises

By Cynthia Sax on October 9, 2024

Every four years, the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I dig up the irises and divide them. If we don’t complete this big job, the irises suffer and often stop flowering. Plus…we get more irises when we do this! (grins)

This was the year! We dug them up and split them, which often required cracking the rhizomes into half. Then we replanted them. We should have double the number of irises next year.

Eventually, we’ll run out of room in the bed.

Which is why you don’t need to buy iris rhizomes. If you ask around (in the Fall/Autumn), you’ll likely discover that many of your neighbors have been forced to throw away iris rhizomes they no longer have space to plant! They will happily give you some.

Claiming Cure And Being A Doctor In A Small Town

By Cynthia Sax on October 8, 2024

Doctors/Medics are viewed as authority figures, especially in Doctor/Patient dynamics. In some cases, a doctor could hold the power of life or death over a patient.

A doctor dating their patient is extremely unethical. The patient would find it difficult to say no.

Which makes dating for single doctors in a small town VERY difficult.

As Cyra, the medic heroine of Claiming Cure, has found out. She is the sole medic in a small settlement. Every being there is a potential patient.

Unless that being is a medic visiting temporarily from another planet…or battle station. (grins)

Muse Food – The Life Cycle Of Everything

By Cynthia Sax on October 7, 2024

As writers, we usually focus on the life cycles of the characters whose stories we’re telling.

How old is the heroine? How old does she have the ability to become? What could possibly end her lifespan? Etc.

But I try to also consider the lifespan of EVERYTHING around her.

Do the plants on her planet live forever or do they die at the end of their seasons? Do the insects feeding on these plants have the same life cycles? What happens to the dead plants and insects and other previously-living things?

THAT all adds to the world building, creating a fullness to our stories.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – October 6

By Cynthia Sax on October 6, 2024

Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November), is with my Awesome Formatter aka the Dear Wonderful Hubby. (grins) It is creeping higher on his extremely long to-do list so I hope to have it back soon.

I’m continuing to craft Grid Locked, the fourth core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in March). This will definitely be a slower story to write and to edit because it features SO many previous cyborgs and their females. I get to catch up with all those beings before writing their small bits!

(If you’re a Rage fan, Rage and Joan have quite a bit of on page time in this story.)

Have a wonderful week, my friends. (big hugs) Stop everything for a moment. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Count to ten. Slowly exhale. Open your eyes and marvel at the miracle your body is and the serenity in your soul. Life isn’t perfect but we ARE alive and that is dang good!

Claiming Cure And Why Beings Become Medics

By Cynthia Sax on October 5, 2024

A buddy of mine is a skilled medical doctor.

When I go to an event with her, at least one stranger will make a comment implying my friend became a doctor ‘for the money.’

That’s not at all why she became a doctor.

And that is certainly not why Cure, the cyborg hero of Claiming Cure, or Cyra, the human heroine, became doctors or medics or healers.

Cure, for example, is a cyborg and credits, their currency, are merely numbers in a database. He is extremely capable of changing those numbers to whatever he needs them to be.

He doesn’t need credits.

Cure became a medic for an entirely different (heart-shredding) reason.

Claiming Cure’s Cover

By Cynthia Sax on October 4, 2024

With most of the covers the Always Awesome Amanda Kelsey has crafted for me in the cyborg universe, the dominant color on the cover serves as an overlay over the image of the cyborg depicted.

Drift’s gray skin looks greenish on the cover of Drift Would. Strike’s skin looks fiery red on the cover of Strike Zone.

Cure’s gray skin, ironically, looks…tanned on the cover of Claiming Cure.

(grins)

That wasn’t planned. It just…happened.
