We last visited Keid 9 in Grin And Bare Him.
At that point, the planet was controlled by the Humanoid Alliance. As we left the surface, something or someone had escaped from the chamber Euryale inhabited and was causing chaos.
We will return to Keid 9 in Strive For Forever. And MUCH has changed. I don’t think I’d call it Humanoid Alliance-controlled anymore. Sure, the Humanoid Alliance claims the planet. But they certainly don’t have control of anything on its surface.
Other entities are in charge. And they are not-at-all friendly toward visitors.

Gardening And Our Isla Nublar
Growing anything is high risk. An unexpected frost or hail storm can decimate fragile plants like tomatoes.
Every year, I grow more seedlings than we can fit in our vegetable garden. We send the excess to Awesome Mom-in-law and Awesome Father-in-law’s house (and also give them to others). They plant these tomato seedlings in their garden.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby jokes that is our Isla Nublar, our Site B or alternative location. (In Jurassic Park, the Site B island is actually Isla Sorna.) If something goes wrong, if the ‘dinosaurs’ can’t be contained at our house, we can take clippings or thin the tomato plants at his parents’ house.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – June 11
I should be working on the first draft of Intrepid Encounter, the fifth story in the Cyborg Unity series (likely releasing in November). The key words are ‘I should be.’ (sheepish grin)
I’ve been goofing around, writing scenes I likely won’t ever use and dreaming about scenes I MIGHT use…or I might not use. I don’t know. I AM getting excited about this story. I merely haven’t started the work part yet.

Taglines And Cover Art
I request cover art years before a story is published. I do this to give my cover artist more time to craft the covers and to ensure I have covers. Period.
When I request covers, I usually don’t know anything about the story except who the hero (cyborg) will be. The taglines on the covers are…well…they can be perfect or they can be not-so-perfect. (grins)
Is Strive overcoming his past? I guess we’re all in some way overcoming our pasts. Strive is content with the decisions he has made. But he, like many cyborgs, is carrying trauma from his time in the Humanoid Alliance training facility.

Gardening With Squirrels
Our backyard truly belongs to the Mafia Squirrels. They run the show. They decide what lives or doesn’t live.
But we’ve figured out a few tricks to increase the odds our vegetables and other plants will survive.
If I’m planting seeds in a planter/container, I leave a gap between the soil and the top of a planter/container. Once the seeds are planted, I cover the top with wire netting/fencing, pinning it in place with sticks (so the squirrels can’t knock it off). The squirrels are unable to easily access the soil so they leave it alone.
I stick sticks or branches in the soil around bigger plants (like the tomatoes), creating a little fence. Again, this blocks access to the actual plant. And our squirrels DO dig up tomato plants.
(Tomato cages don’t stop the squirrels. The gaps are too large.)
I walk around the garden a couple times a day and replant dug up plants. Usually if I replant them right away, they will survive.
Hot pepper flakes or sauce WILL keep the squirrels away but only for a short time.

I collect awesome names. If you have a unique name and you contact me, I’ll likely ask you if I can use it in a story. (grins) I’m always looking for great names.
Euryale, the heroine of Strive For Forever, the fourth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in July), has an awesome name.
The most famous Euryale is likely the Gorgon Euryale. She is the second eldest of three awesomely ‘monstrous’ sisters sporting snake hair and having the ability to turn beings to stone. Euryale is the daughter of the sea god and goddess Phorcys and Ceto and, unlike Medusa, she is immortal.

Muse Food – The Survivor
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this one flower growing in an otherwise empty plot.
I suspect the entire plot was sowed with seeds. But only one flower grew.
Why did this one flower survive? Was it luck? Was it the flower version of willpower? Was it genetics? Was it a combination of all of those factors?
When a character is a lone survivor, I wonder why they endured also. What made the difference between life and death for them?

This week, I focused on completing some admin tasks.
I also sent the Cover Art Request Forms for the 5 stories in the next cyborg subseries (tentatively called Dauntless Cyborgs – as their ship is the Dauntless – grins) to my Awesome Cover Artist.
Plus I crafted the CAR for this year’s thank you story (releasing in December).
