The Garden Off Season
December is a slow time for gardening in the Sax household.
The outside gardens have been put to bed for the snowy winter season. It is too early to start seeds for the spring. I’m trying not to bother the indoor plants too much. It is cooler in our home and they are already a little stressed.
I AM completing some gardening tasks.
I’m composting. (grins) We’re always composting. The kitchen waste doesn’t stop and we’ll need that black gold goodness in the spring.
I’m also planning the 2024 gardens.
And I’m dreaming a bit while doing that. I’m dreaming of an abundance of red mini tomatoes, some ever producing zucchini/courgette plants, bountiful zinnia blooms, and other plants. (smiles)
It is a great way to spend December.

Intrepid Encounter And Argot’s Name
Cyborgs are assigned a model letter and numbers. They give themselves their names.
Argot, Intrepid’s Communications Officer, chose that name because argot means “a specialized idiomatic vocabulary peculiar to a particular class or group of people, especially that of an underworld group, devised for private communication and identification.”
Which is extremely appropriate as cyborgs’ names are means of identification that only cyborgs initially knew and referred to each other using. These names are part of their argot. (grins)

Muse Food – The Resources Characters Have
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were trekking around Saint Lucia when we spotted this collection of plastic bottles in the water.
An innovative fisherperson had designed a float from empty plastic bottles, a ‘resource’ everyone on Earth now has in abundance.
We use the resources we have. I try to remember that when building a world or crafting a scene.
If the character is surrounded by trees, they’ll likely craft their home out of wood, for example. If they’re a warrior, they’d likely pry an object out of a rock with their dagger, a tool they already have. If their food rations come in containers, they’d likely use those empty containers to store their gear.
We use what we have if that is all possible. That is true on Earth. And it is true in stories.

Strike Zone’s Description Will Be Changing
At the end of Intrepid Encounter, I included an excerpt from Strike Zone, the first core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in February).
I wrote that scene before the first draft of the story had been completed.
I had to scrap it. I will also have to change the book description at booksellers.
The heroine, Kesser, told me indignantly that she is NOT a thief. She is the only child of her planet’s leader. And she is seeking to stealthily rescue her abducted friend without restarting an interplanetary war.

Intrepid Encounter And Jane’s Name
Olrun, the heroine of Intrepid Encounter, met Jane, her adopted daughter, on a battlefield when Jane had four solar cycles (was four years old).
She interpreted the child’s name as being ‘Jane.’
Was Jane’s name truly Jane? We’ll never know that for certain.
I believe her name started with Jay. The nnn in Jane could have been chattering teeth or a sound arising from the child’s trauma.
Or her name COULD have been Jane. That’s possible. (smiles)
Jane is the name she answers to now.

Intrepid Encounter And Sensing Others
We’ll never know the truth but I believe four solar cycle old Jane deliberately approached Olrun.
There were numerous warriors on the battlefield that planet rotation. Many of them were female. Jane chose Olrun as her caregiver.
Why?
Again, we’ll never know for certain. Jane had four solar cycles. She had gone through extreme trauma. Many solar cycles later, she doesn’t retain many memories of that time.
She could have approached Olrun because the Valkyrie was shiny. (grins) Kids tend to love shiny things (as does a certain cyborg romance writer – me!).
I believe she approached Olrun because they have genetic similarities. They were both destined to have certain beings in their lifespans.
Sort of like how Ghost can detect genetic matches. Except Jane, as a child, did that subconsciously.
Again, we’ll never know but that’s my theory!

Muse Food – Unexpected Beauty
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I looked along an alleyway in Philipsburg, St. Maarten and we saw this.
It was a beautiful sight and I believe it was made more beautiful because it was so unexpected. It was a surprise green oasis in the midst of buildings and pavement.
I try to create similar moments in my stories. Perhaps there’s some humor in the middle of a battle scene. Or there’s an unexpected touch during a formal event. Or the hero is planning a mission and then, out of nowhere, notices how the heroine’s hair captures the light.
Those moments are often more magical because they are unexpected.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – November 26
The big Cynthia Sax news this week was, of course, the release of Intrepid Encounter! Woot! I really hope you enjoyed this story, my friends. I love Intrepid. I love his Valkyrie. They’re magical together.
I continue to work on Strike Zone, the first core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in February). I’m almost done the first draft. (grins) It is a mess but I love the story and I love Strike and his human female.
Have a wonderful week, my friends. (big hugs) Do something to celebrate the harvest (which is a celebration almost all cultures enjoy). Eat your favorite fresh vegetable or a piece of fruit. Touch the ground or soil if you can (i.e. it isn’t under a foot of snow). Marvel at the rain or the snow.
This planet is a fantastical place. I’m grateful to be living on it with you!

Intrepid Encounter
Cyborg vs. Valkyrie
Blood will be spilled and hearts will be captured.
