Why Are Cyborgs Physically ‘Perfect’?
I’ve received some feedback from reading buddies concerned that all of the cyborgs I’ve featured are what today’s society deems to be physically ‘perfect’ (other than scars or missing limbs or other battle wounds).
Where are the fuller figured cyborgs?
They’ve been decommissioned. That’s what happened to them.
Any cyborg not adhering to the Humanoid Alliance’s rigid standard of perfection was killed.
That need to be perfect is something EVERY cyborg still worries about. It is part of their trauma.
Cyborgs were also manufactured to be ideal warriors. That means if an aspect of them didn’t serve that purpose, it was eliminated.
And they were designed to use every bit of nourishment they received. They have ‘perfect’ metabolisms. That attribute reduced the resources and credits the Humanoid Alliance had to provide to keep them functional.

The Cool Is Coming For The Garden
The nights in my corner of the world are experiencing temperatures lower than 10C/50F.
The peas and cauliflower are loving the coolness.
The rest of the garden?
Not-so-much.
I’m preparing to take the mini bell pepper plants, the oregano, the geraniums, and the begonia inside the house to overwinter. That means pruning them back, taking them out of their outside soil, washing the plants off, and replanting them in inside (hopefully gnat-free) soil.
They will be semi-dormant during the winter and won’t look very pretty. But they should survive and be ready to flourish again in the spring.

Muse Food – Markers And The Sense Of Smell
I can smell this picture.

The scent of Sharpie markers will always be associated with back to school for me. A mere photo of a marker brings back memories of that scent and those days.
Smell is a powerful sense. Scents are often associated with emotions and with memories.
The aroma of freshly baked cookies, for example, might remind a reader of her Grandma’s love. The scent of bleach might remind her of a hospital stay and the fear she experienced during it.
Use the sense of smell in your writing.

Spending Time On The Same Alien Planet
One of the many things I am enjoying about the Dauntless Cyborgs series is…
I am spending three books-worth of time on the same alien planet.
This allows me to witness multiple facets of Cancri B. In Drift Would, we spend time with the Cancris situated in remote areas. In Claiming Cure, we’ll spend time with a medic situated in a settlement. In Grid Locked, we’ll see a different part of Cancri B and enjoy different facets of the humanoids’ culture.

Gardening – Harvesting Mini Bell Peppers
The harvest is happening in my part of the world. In the Sax backyard, we’re harvesting tomatoes, green beans, some butternut squash and a gazillion mini bell peppers.
These mini bell peppers were started from seeds we harvested from grocery store-bought mini bell peppers. They start green and then mature into three vivid colors – red, orange and yellow. The color doesn’t indicate heat or flavor. They’re all sweet.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I LOVE them. And we plan to overwinter some plants inside the home. We’ve harvested more seeds and will plant those if the overwintering doesn’t work well.

I LOVE seeing plants growing where they shouldn’t logically be growing.
Like this tree flourishing on the edge of a rock cliff.
That life is existing where there, in theory, shouldn’t be life gives me hope. We can beat supposedly unbeatable odds.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – September 8
I’ve completed the first round edits for Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November), and I’ve returned the manuscript to my Awesome Editor. Woot! We are one step closer to release day. (grins)
I also started crafting Grid Locked, the fourth core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (likely releasing in March).
I think I have a solid opening to this story! One of the most challenging parts of writing, for me, is finding the best place to start a story. There is SO much going on in a character’s life. Deciding when is the best to join up with them can be difficult. But I think I’ve found the right spot.

As The Weather Cools…
Publishers often get excited about beach reads, books that people will bring on summer vacation with them.
I’m more about Fall Books. Both reading them and writing them.
As temperatures lower, I turn pages. (grins) I find a window nook or a place in the sun, wrap a snuggly blanket around me, and I read.
Or I write. I grab a cup of warm beverage and lose myself in my laptop.
It is a wonderful time to read and to write. (smiles)
