Gardening – Eggplant Harvest
This was our first year growing eggplant and we had some adventures. (grins)
We started the plants late as we had a tough time finding seeds. (We’ve already stocked next year’s seeds, having learned this lesson). Then when the plants were about calf high, the wild bunny ate every single plant down to their very stems.
We put cages around those stems and lowered our expectations for the eggplant harvest. I didn’t think we’d get ANY eggplants. The Dear Wonderful Hubby was more optimistic.
I am happy to say… I was wrong. We have a LOT of eggplants on the plants and the weather forecast is heat and sun for October so they should grow to harvest size.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I LOVE eggplant and we’ll definitely grow it again next year!

Muse Food – Life On The Edge
Many of us feel most comfortable in the middle of the pack.
But every so often, we can be forced to live life on the edge, away from the multitudes.
This is true of our characters also.
It could be something daring like flying halfway across the universe to confront an old enemy. Or something less dangerous yet still scary like starting a new job.
These outskirts are often where tremendous growth happens. And sometimes it is where our characters find love. (grins)

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – September 22
My Awesome Editor returned Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November), to me early. I completed those revisions and we both believe it is good to go! Woot!
It still has to be formatted, then reviewed, loaded to booksellers, reviewed again before it is ready for release. But we’re one step closer and that’s worth celebrating!

Grid Locked – Cyborgs: Endgame
I’m currently crafting the first draft of Grid Locked (likely releasing in March) and I’m referring to it with my Dear Wonderful Hubby as Cyborgs: Endgame. (grins) That’s the vibe of this story.
I thought of Drift Would as Rogue One. Drift and Roshini are involved in a ‘doomed’ mission. They and their teams expected to die during it. Yet they engaged in it anyway. Because it was the right thing to do.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I, both music lovers, joke that we have a song for everything. We’ve listened to so many songs over the years. It is easy to find one with applicable lyrics.
The same is true for TV Shows and Movies. We’ve watched so many. It is easy to find one that has similarities to my stories.

Desert Planets
Cancri B, the home planet of Roshini, Drift Would’s human heroine, is a desert planet.
Many of the planets the cyborgs have traveled to are desert planets.
Because water is precious. It is rare. It is special.
We see that here on Earth. There’s concern that drinkable water, land plant nourishing water will become rarer and rarer. There will be little or no rain. If that happens, deserts will spread across our planet also.
We can’t take water for grant. The Cancris certainly don’t.

Throwback Thursday – The Cyborg’s Secret Baby
The action in The Cyborg’s Secret Baby starts before the action in Releasing Rage.
Stealth doesn’t realize cyborgs have genetic matches, beings they’re destined to love. All he processes is he would die for his human female.
And, after they are parted, Zebrina believes he has done exactly that. She thinks the love of her life has perished in battle, leaving her with a gift she would do anything to protect.

Why Are Cyborgs Physically ‘Perfect’?
I’ve received some feedback from reading buddies concerned that all of the cyborgs I’ve featured are what today’s society deems to be physically ‘perfect’ (other than scars or missing limbs or other battle wounds).
Where are the fuller figured cyborgs?
They’ve been decommissioned. That’s what happened to them.
Any cyborg not adhering to the Humanoid Alliance’s rigid standard of perfection was killed.
That need to be perfect is something EVERY cyborg still worries about. It is part of their trauma.
Cyborgs were also manufactured to be ideal warriors. That means if an aspect of them didn’t serve that purpose, it was eliminated.
And they were designed to use every bit of nourishment they received. They have ‘perfect’ metabolisms. That attribute reduced the resources and credits the Humanoid Alliance had to provide to keep them functional.

The Cool Is Coming For The Garden
The nights in my corner of the world are experiencing temperatures lower than 10C/50F.
The peas and cauliflower are loving the coolness.
The rest of the garden?
Not-so-much.
I’m preparing to take the mini bell pepper plants, the oregano, the geraniums, and the begonia inside the house to overwinter. That means pruning them back, taking them out of their outside soil, washing the plants off, and replanting them in inside (hopefully gnat-free) soil.
They will be semi-dormant during the winter and won’t look very pretty. But they should survive and be ready to flourish again in the spring.

Muse Food – Markers And The Sense Of Smell
I can smell this picture.
(grins)
The scent of Sharpie markers will always be associated with back to school for me. A mere photo of a marker brings back memories of that scent and those days.
Smell is a powerful sense. Scents are often associated with emotions and with memories.
The aroma of freshly baked cookies, for example, might remind a reader of her Grandma’s love. The scent of bleach might remind her of a hospital stay and the fear she experienced during it.
Use the sense of smell in your writing.
