Interview With Lea Kirk
I sat down (virtually) with Lea Kirk for a short interview. Today is the release day for Lea Kirk’s Collision, a SciFi Enemies-to-Lovers Romance. I LOVE enemies-to-lovers romances!
Cynthia Sax: What makes Fander, your hero, so super sexy?
Lea Kirk: Well, Fander’s big, and green, and there’s a something different about his anatomy that’ll make most women smile. I could tell you what it is, but wouldn’t it be more fun to discover that secret for yourself?
Cynthia Sax: Ohhh…you have me intrigued! What is your favorite line from Collision?
Lea Kirk: I have to pick one, huh? All right, I think it would have to be when Fander says to Flora, “We don’t have to pretend anymore.” His words signal the beginning of something new for them. A change in direction in their lives, their relationship, and the realization that they are fully committed to facing that change together.
Cynthia Sax: Awww…that’s romantic! Is Collision part of a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?
Lea Kirk: Yes and yes. Collision is the third book in my Prophecy series. There will be more stories in this universe, but Collision wraps up the series arc. The rest of the stories will focus on the “new normal” for Earth, Matir, and Anferthia. I’m getting excited about my next story. It’s a Christmas story featuring my hero and heroine from my first book, Prophecy, and their newly adopted children—particularly Maggie, the youngest. I really, really hope to have it out this year. If not, then I’ll aim for the 2019 holiday season.
Cynthia Sax: That ROCKS! I don’t see very many Christmas SciFi Romances. Do you have any advice for new writers?
Lea Kirk: Don’t give up. Keep writing. Immerse yourself in a community (local or online, depending on your location) of other writers in your genre. If you write a subgenre, like sci-fi romance, get to know other authors who also write in that subgenre. And lastly, if you write a series, and you’re not a fast writer, listen to everyone who tells you to finish writing the stories first before releasing. I managed to get the first two books out in 2016, plus a short story. Collision is just now being released two-and-a-half years after Prophecy. I wish I had listened to this advice.
Cynthia Sax: I should really take that advice. I release as I write and sometimes I write myself into corners. Thank you for joining us today, Lea Kirk!

Dark Strength – Mother’s Day Snippet
As Sunday is Mother’s Day in North America, I thought we’d look at some Mom-themed snippets this week.
Today’s snippet is from Dark Strength and is a nod to all of the wonderful furbaby Moms in Romanceland.
“She’ll make it. Won’t you?” His female talked to the puffker. “You’re tough like I am, a survivor. The bad males won’t end your lifespan.”
Fraggin’ hole. She was already attached to the creature.
He slipped one of his palms under the puffker. It tried to bite him, couldn’t pierce his thick skin with its tiny teeth, its growls more cute than menacing.
“We’re friends.” His female attempted to ease its fear. “We won’t ever hurt you.”
The puffker stared at her with wide eyes. Its nose twitched.
“She understands us.” Elyce beamed. “She knows we’re her friends.”
“Pull your flight suit down until the fabric covers your fingers.” The puffker might be able to understand them but he wasn’t taking any risks with his female. “And cup your hands.”
She did as he instructed. He transferred the little creature to her palms. It immediately expressed its unhappiness with that action, sinking its teeth into the cloth.
“She’s holding on.” His female held a different view of the puffker’s attack.
“Hold onto her also.” And he, in turn, would hold onto Elyce. He swung her into his arms, relishing the feel of her against him.
“I won’t let go.” She gazed down at her little bundle. “You can count on me, Balvan. I won’t disappoint you.”
“You could never disappoint me.” He kissed the top of her head as he walked with her.
Elyce relayed that kiss to the puffker’s fluffy head. “Where are we going? Are we taking her home?”
Home. His female thought of their domicile as her home.
“Yes, we’re taking her home.” His voice was gruff with emotion.

Why Is Balvan From Dark Strength Green?
Balvan, the hero from Dark Strength, is a modified humanoid. He’s part Geminorum Giant, part human and is enhanced to be bigger, stronger, tougher than both species.
Geminorum Giants are, from our human perspectives, aliens – GREEN aliens. Aliens can be any color. They can be blue like Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarians or purple like Eve Langlais’ Alien Abduction heroes or a variety of other colors.
Often, however, we envision aliens as being green. The rumors are ‘little green men’ have been abducting humans for centuries. That’s the default color for aliens in fiction and movies.
Green is also the color I associate with giants, thanks to the pea-pushing Jolly Green Giant. The alliteration makes me happy in a silly sort of way.
But there’s a biological reason for Geminorum Giants being green. Their planet is lush with green-colored vegetation. Many of these plants are as huge as Balvan is. Yes, on Carinae E, he sticks out, but on the planet his kind originated from, he would be camouflaged, could hide from predators and from his enemies. His kind has evolved to be part of their environment.

Taking Vengeance is Book 12 in the Cyborg Sizzle series and is a STAND-ALONE story.

June – Dark Fire – Refuge / Alien Romance
I’m writing Dark Fire, the fourth story in the Refuge series right now so I don’t have very many details about it.
The hero IS Dare, the silver scaled Dracheon.
Hulagu and Azalea will have a strong storyline also. Hulagu’s time at the Refuge ends and his Chamele brethren return for him. They must decide whether they’ll relocate to Chamele or stay in the Refuge.
After The Refuge
Dark Fire is the last planned story in the Refuge (for now) because we’re heading to Chamele for the re-release of the Warlord series.
The Warlord series will be vastly expanded (will be double the original length) to better reflect my original vision for that series.
There will also be more cyborg stories. (grins)
