When I first started writing, my business buddies assumed I sat around in my pajamas all day. I didn’t. I took a shower as soon as I woke up and dressed in business casual clothes (as all I had were these clothes and suits, being the total business babe that I was).
Then I started thinking… If everyone assumes I sit around in my pjs, maybe I should sit around in my pjs. I tried it and I liked it. Pjs are dang comfortable! And friends aren’t shocked when they find me wearing them at 2 in the afternoon. They expect me to be dressed like that.

The Story Behind Tattoos
I LOVE hearing the stories behind tattoos. My tattooed heroes always have a good reason for getting the tattoos they have.
Logan Ross, the sexy financier hero of One Night With My Billionaire Master, has a dragon tattoo, winding up his left side.
It is somewhat similar to this one.
Why did he get a dragon tattoo? As he says, “Bulls make money when the market goes up. Bears make money when the market does down. Dragons find treasure in every market.”
Hawke, the tattooed bad boy biker in Sinful Rewards, has a barbed wire tattoo around his right bicep. Why? Because the tattoo was in memory of his best friend and losing him was like losing his right arm. The two men were inseparable.
Rage, the cyborg hero in Releasing Rage, has a tattoo also. His model number is inked on his cheek. This reinforces that he’s viewed as a machine, as a product to be coded, not as the living, breathing being he is. Every being looking at his face will know what he is.

Walks of shame—many of us have done them, including the rich and the famous.
According to Wikipedia, a walk of shame “refers to a situation in which a person must walk past strangers or peers alone for an embarrassing reason before reaching a place of privacy. It often occurs the morning after a night out at a bar, nightclub, or party. People undertaking the walk of shame are understood to have spent the night at the residence of a sexual partner (or perceived sexual partner), particularly a one-night stand. The topic is often the subject of college newspaper commentary. The “walker” may often be identified by his or her disheveled appearance and incongruous evening attire, particularly on Saturday or Sunday mornings.”
Walks of shame are challenging to keep private, especially if you’re a high profile person such as a billionaire. In One Night With My Billionaire Master, Arianna wants to keep her one night with sexy billionaire, Logan Ross, a secret.
The problem is… His house is watched by the media. His every move is gossiped about.
So what does he do?

Sugarbabies – The Movie
I recently watched Sugarbabies, a made-for-TV-movie with older billionaire men and cash-poor female college students.
According to Wikipedia, sugar baby “is a slang term for a young female or male who is financially pampered/cared for by a ‘sugar daddy’ or ‘sugar mama’ in exchange for companionship.”
This IS a lower budget movie. Don’t expect Hollywood production or Oscar performances from every actor or actress.
But it was fun and interesting and there were some things I really enjoyed about this movie.
I loved that this movie featured a variety of heroines and their situations. Every heroine had a different reason for hooking up with an older, wealthier man, and their reasons weren’t purely financial. Yes, they needed help with their college tuition and other bills. But one heroine was seeking mentorship in business. Another heroine was seeking marriage. The main heroine, Katie, accidentally fell in love with her sugar daddy before she realized he was a sugar daddy.
The women were supportive of each other’s goals. They talked about how they would all be successful and how their different successes would help each other. They weren’t competitors. They were similar to the women I’m lucky to surround myself with.
I loved that NONE of the men pressured the women to have sex. As one character pointed out, these men could pay for sex if they wanted that. They wanted companionship, someone to listen to their problems, to spend time with them. Many of the women did have sex with their sugar daddies (not all did) but they initiated the sexy times. They were in control.
There was one thing that bothered me about this movie and that was how Katie was portrayed as feeling guilty for falling in love with an older, wealthy man. Her sugar daddy was handsome, sophisticated, listened to her, showed her things she wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to. If he had been broke ass, she would have shrugged it off as a failed relationship. Instead, she felt guilty about caring for him. Rich men are worthy of love too.
And I can’t fault the women for allowing the men to pay. My dear wonderful hubby wasn’t wealthy but he WAS living at home when we first met and he had fewer expenses than I did. So he paid for a lot of our dates. When we traveled before marriage, we needed to be chaperoned (due to dear wonderful mom-in-law’s religious beliefs) so we stayed with his family. He often booked the travel and often paid for it because traveling was more important to him (I was more worried about paying my rent).
This isn’t that different from the sugar daddy situation, except the scale is grander. The men wanted to attend fancy events. The women couldn’t afford it. The men could and so they paid (for everything, including the clothing and transportation).

In One Night With My Billionaire Master, there’s a sex tape ‘scandal.’
Twenty-seven years ago, simply having a sex tape would have been a scandal. In 1988, Rob Lowe’s sex tape severely damaged his career. He was recorded having sex with two women (both of legal age, one girl was 16 but that was the legal age of consent in that state) in a nightclub. It was a scandal. He lost roles because of it. If the actor had been anyone other than Rob Lowe, I don’t know if his career would have survived.
Jump forward to today and sex tapes are ‘trendy’. They’re considered a possible stepping-stone to fame and fortune. Kim Kardashian’s ‘leaked’ sex tape in 2007 was instrumental in making her a household name. It led to her and her family being offered their first reality TV show. They’ve leveraged that sex tape (which is no longer a tape but simply a recording) into an empire.
If the couple in One Night With My Billionaire Master had been different, their sex tape would have been a one week wonder with no lasting repercussions. But Arianna’s father has made it clear what he’d do if he EVER found out she was having sex with ANYONE. He also hates Logan Ross with a fiery passion.

Sexual Experience Shaming
In One Night With My Billionaire Master, Arianna, the heroine, has a reputation for being a slut. People judge her harshly because of this reputation. They look down on her, view her as ‘less than.’
Ironically, this reputation is bullshit. She’s, in fact, a virgin. But being a virgin creates almost as many issues as being a slut. There’s the perception that every woman her age has had sex. Men expect Arianna to be experienced, might wonder what is wrong with her if she hasn’t slept with other men.
I wish I could say this was a purely fictional situation, that women (and yes, it is mostly women) aren’t judged on our sexuality but we are.
I know plenty of women my age (in their 40’s) who have never had sex. They watch the sexually active women on TV and feel shame (how many 40 year virgins do you see on TV?). They listen to their buddies talk about sex and they either pretend like they fit in or they remain silent.
I also know plenty of women my age whose numbers of sexual partners are in the three figures. They lie about this number or ‘don’t remember.’ They aren’t likely to talk about their one night stands with their happily married friends. They definitely don’t bring it up on first dates.
One of the (many) things I love about Logan Ross is he loves Arianna when he thinks she’s a slut and he doesn’t love her any less or any more when he finds out she was a virgin (though he IS upset that she didn’t communicate with him). Her sexual history doesn’t matter to him. He loves her for who she is.

Financiers, Venture Capitalists, And Other Sexy Money Men
Logan Ross, the hero of One Night With My Billionaire Master, is a financier. If a company needs money, he supplies it… for a price. He also buys shares in undervalued companies he wishes to eventually control.
A venture capitalist, in contrast, normally focuses on newer and growing companies. Both take risks on companies that banks and other institutions wouldn’t. But the money receiving companies or shareholders always have a choice whether or not to accept the financing. There are plenty of financiers and venture capitalists and other sources of financing to choose from (which makes the actions of certain characters in One Night With My Billionaire Master even more despicable).
I have a weakness for hunky money men. I’ve worked for and with several venture capitalists and financiers. Some were wonderful, definitely hero material. Some weren’t.
One venture capitalist changed my life forever. Being a business babe, I spent quite a bit of time on the business forums, sharing knowledge with other business folks. I’ve made quite a few buddies over the years. One of these buddies was JS, a young venture capitalist who made his seed money (his start out money) in technology.
I was one of the few women on the male-dominated forums. JS thought I had some great experience and knowledge. He also was a big supporter of seeing more women start and run businesses.
JS wanted me to blog on business. I was scared. One of my female buddies had run an up and coming business blog. A woman-hating male reader had tracked her down and almost killed her (hurting her in all of the ways a man can hurt a woman). I didn’t want that to happen to me.
So JS set up a blog and allowed me to write anonymously for him. I wrote a blog post every day for several years until he died (of cancer while he was in his early 30’s). Then I set up my own blog (using what he taught me about remaining anonymous) and have been blogging daily about business ever since then.
Whenever I write about a venture capitalist or financier, I think about JS and how generous and supportive he was. I think Logan Ross, the hero of One Night With My Billionaire Master, and JS would have been good friends.

One Night With My Billionaire Master and Real Life Business Rivalries
In One Night With My Billionaire Master, Arianna St. James, the heroine, works for St. James Communications, her family’s company. This is a television service (a combination of cable and broadcast) company.
In Canada, there are two very large family-controlled television service companies – Rogers Communications controlled by the Rogers family (valued at 7.4 billion dollars) and Shaw Communications controlled by the Shaw family (valued at 2 billion dollars). I know friends who work closely with the family members and executives at each company.
Eric Hixon & his wife, Melinda Rogers, Oscar de la Renta, Loretta Rogers, Suzanne & her husband, Edward Rogers
Loretta is the mother of Melinda and Edward.
Edward is the Chair of the family trust. Melinda is Co-Chair.
These two families have fiercely fought over turf and customers for generations. There’s respect for the other family but, in the past, there have also been some bitter feuds. One family would walk into an event. The other family would leave.
(If this reminds you of Dallas – Shaw’s Executive Chairman is aptly named JR Shaw)
None of these external feuds, however, rival the struggle for control within the companies. Children constantly maneuver for positions, wishing to gain approval of the reigning family members, seeking to be named the next in command. Any advantage they can show over their competition, which is often a sibling or an uncle, they do. Some of this is good-natured rivalry. Some of this is not.
Arianna’s half-siblings, in One Night With My Billionaire Master, are even more aggressive. They’re desperate and resort to some slimy tactics to eliminate her as possible competition. This is bad behavior taken to the extreme and oh-so-delicious to read about!
