Welcome To August!
August is always an exciting month for me. Some of my favorite people were born in August. This year, it is even more thrilling as Baring Grudge is releasing!
August was (re)named after the Roman Emperor Augustus. He chose this month because some of his greatest triumphs, including the conquest of Egypt, happened around that time.
In my corner of the universe, the Perseids meteor shower is putting on its thrilling show in August. I’m really looking forward to it.

Baring Grudge
No one in the universe is more determined than a cyborg warrior tracking his female.
***
Grudge, a C Model cyborg, has been assigned a mission – safeguard a Humanoid Alliance space station for his kind. Honor was once all he had, and he is determined to fulfill his duty.
That resolve is tested when a tiny human female enters the space station and sets the prettiest little explosives the warrior has ever seen. She is Grudge’s genetic match, the one being manufactured for him. He wants to touch her, kiss her, claim her in all ways, but first he has to stop her from blasting him into the next galaxy.
Taelyn has a self-appointed mission—to destroy every battle robot the Humanoid Alliance has ever manufactured. A huge gray-skinned, blue-eyed cyborg warrior with mismatched arms won’t prevent her from achieving her goal. She’ll escape him, leaving destruction in her wake.
Before she departs, she’ll experience one toe-curling moment of hatred-edged passion with her handsome foe. She’ll show him how skilled with detonations she truly is. He will have his universe rocked.
Then she’ll disappear.
Her cyborg, however, has no intention of ever letting her go.
***
Baring Grudge is a STANDALONE Cyborg SciFi Romance set in a dark, gritty, sometimes-violent universe.
It features a determined, damaged warrior, an equally resolute human female, and an explosive game of predator and prey played across galaxies.

Baring Grudge And Tracking Devices
One of the gadgets used in Baring Grudge, my next cyborg romance, is the tracking device.
Tracking devices are being used today. Our mobile phones have them built in. They are added to other devices like eReaders, tablets also.
Today’s tracking devices are employed in a variety of settings and for many different reasons.
Marathon runners, for example, are sometimes asked to wear a tracking device given to them by the organizers. This ensures they don’t take shortcuts and it signals possible issues with the routes.
(I don’t know if runners wear these at the Olympics. I suspect they are being watched so closely; tracking them through a device isn’t necessary.)
Workers sent into remote areas often wear tracking devices so others can more easily find them. People suffering from illnesses like dementia wear tracking devices for the same reason.
In Baring Grudge, tracking devices are used for a slightly different purpose.
To hunt down a fleeing female thief.

After The Rebel Cyborgs Series
There are 3 core stories left to release in the Rebel Cyborgs series – Baring Grudge, B Free, & Seizing Power. Valor’s story will be 2021’s freebie short story, my gift to you.
Some reading buddies have asked me what I’ll be writing after that.
More cyborgs, of course!
(grins)
I don’t yet have a name for the next cyborg romance series. But this grouping of stories will involve warriors being matched with the females genetically manufactured for them. These connections are possible thanks to Tifara and Death’s efforts (Tifara does the science. Death ensures no one bothers her, allowing her to work…which can be just as important).
This next cyborg romance series will tell the stories of Odium (from Under Strain), Grin (from Breathing Vapor), Raw (from Breathing Vapor), Strive (from Breathing Vapor) and Intrepid (from Releasing Rage).
That’s all the information the warriors will relay to me at this time (smiles) but I know their romances will be action-packed and super steamy. That’s a certainty.
I can’t wait to write these stories!

Baring Grudge – Fourth Scene Of The First Chapter
Baring Grudge, the third standalone story in the Rebel Cyborgs series, is releasing next week! Woot!
Today, I’m sharing the fourth and final scene from the very first chapter.
You can read the first scene here:
***
“I will remain on the space station.” His word was his bond.
After his arm and leg had been blown off and he was retrieved by the scrappers, he had been sold as a hunk of junk for a handful of credits. He had been at the mercy of those human and humanoid buyers and assigned the most menial processor-numbing of tasks.
Humiliated and tortured and cut off from his brethren, honor had been the only thing he had left.
He wouldn’t discard it now. “The role of guarding the structure is mine.”
Cadet’s forehead furrowed with thought lines. She gazed at him for three, four, five heartbeats.
“You do require extended access to the systems, to the structure, to devise the best demolition strategy.” She pursed her lips. “And there is a possibility the Humanoid Alliance has detected our commandeering of their plaything. They could attempt to destroy it remotely. You have the skills to stop that.”
Grudge’s head dipped. He could complete that task.
“If you can’t stop the remote detonation, if the Humanoid Alliance sends ships here to reclaim the space station, you are to immediately abandon your post.” Cadet’s tone was stern. “You are to take a warship and fly far from these coordinates. Once you’re certain they haven’t followed you, you are to return to Mercury Minor.”
He could defend the space station. Grudge scowled at her. Even a permanently damaged warrior such as himself could do that.
The structure had an advanced weapons system. Guns had been installed on its exterior. No ships would land in its docking bay without his authorization.
“Vow to me you’ll do that, warrior.” Cadet barked that command at him.
She processed that once he gave her his word, he’d never break it.
He ground his teeth in frustration. His leader would force him to retreat, would give him no choice but to take that dishonorable action.
“I vow I’ll do that.” Each word grated at him.
Cadet’s stance eased. “Retreat is often necessary to win wars.” She must have heard the resentment in his voice. “And I will not lose another warrior to the Humanoid Alliance.” Her gaze slipped from his. “I’ve lost too many of our brethren already.”
Some of the transmissions requesting help, their brethren pleading for rescues, had stopped. They all processed what that meant—those warriors had perished. They hadn’t been retrieved in time.
Cadet took those losses to heart. It fueled her anger at Power. The E Model refused to send retrieval teams, refused to authorize other warriors to rescue the cyborgs left behind.
She wouldn’t desire another loss.
It irked Grudge, however, that she assumed she’d lose him.
But his leader had no rational reason to project he would survive such a confrontation. His head bowed slightly, shame weighing on him. He had been damaged in battle, hadn’t been able to free himself from mortifying servitude, had to beg her and others for help.
That was the past. He pushed those misgivings to the back of his processors.
The future would be different. He had an opportunity to change his leader’s view of him. His simulated spine straightened once more. He would demonstrate he was the equal of any other warrior.
“I’ll safeguard the space station.” His vow only required he leave his post if he was certain he couldn’t stop a remote detonation or if multiple ships belonging to the Humanoid Alliance arrived to reclaim the space station.
If any other situation arose, he could stay and fight. He would master the space station’s defenses, would jettison robots to use for target practice.
He would create his own excitement. A smile lifted his lips.
The planet rotations of solitude would be anything but boring.
He would prove his worth…to Cadet, to the rest of the team, to himself.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – August 1st
I’ve sent B Free, the fourth Rebel Cyborgs story (releasing in November), to my Awesome Editor! Woot! I love this story and I hope she loves it too. If she gives it the thumbs up, I’m super confident you will love it also. My Awesome Editor is a big cyborg romance fan. She ensures I don’t let you down story-wise.
My brain is now absolutely dead. (happy smile) I plan to take this upcoming week off.
Then I will start writing 2021’s freebie short story (being shared in December). This year’s gift to you is Needing Valor which, of course, features Valor, Malice’s severely damaged brethren. Many reading buddies, after devouring Containing Malice, wanted his story. I’m so eager to write it.
Have an awesome week, my friends! (tackle hugs) I plan to read some wonderful romance novels and I hope you have a chance to do that also. Reading romance always makes me happy. That’s what I want for you—happiness.

Baring Grudge And Damaged Heroes
I almost called the Rebel Cyborgs series the Damaged series as all of the heroes in this series are severely damaged in some way. (I also almost called the series the Forgotten Cyborgs series as they were all forgotten by the Cyborg Council.)
Their damage, as cyborgs call it, is why they weren’t able to escape the Humanoid Alliance on their own. That damage is also often due to not being able to escape their cruel manufacturers. It is a bit circular.
The warriors have been under the Humanoid Alliance’s control for a longer duration and that took a toll physically, mentally, emotionally. They are all scarred by those experiences.
Grudge’s wounds are both visible and hidden. He sports a shiny all metallic arm (that wasn’t originally his). But he has emotional damage also that isn’t as obvious.
His female, Taelyn, doesn’t view him as damaged at all.

Baring Grudge And Silans
Kutta, a Silan retriever female, plays a significant role in Baring Grudge. She is a warrior and that is obvious to anyone familiar with beings from Sila.
The roles Silans play in their society are determined at birth. They are genetically designed to be experts in certain tasks. Their coloring is an indication of which role they will play.
Kutta is a warrior. Her body ridges are green with black highlights.
A fixer or repair being (this includes medics) would have green and blue body ridges. A breaker or tester would have green and red body ridges. A ruler or leader would have body ridges that are two different shades of green.
Silans are humanoids. They have fated mates, beings they are destined to be with. Their mating is quite rough and involves biting. (They have pointed teeth and their skin is quite thick.) They’re a fascinating species and we will likely hear more about them in the future.

Baring Grudge – If You Wish To Re-read Stories
Baring Grudge is a standalone cyborg romance. I think you can pick it up as your first Cynthia Sax story and enjoy it.
But if you like to re-read previous stories to get in the ‘mood’ for a new release (I love doing this – grins), the first two stories in the series (Containing Malice and Under Strain) are great choices.
Chasing Mayhem, situated in the first cyborg series, would also set the tempo.
One of the minor characters in Baring Grudge is a Retriever, a former bounty hunter of sorts for the Humanoid Alliance. Imee, the heroine of Chasing Mayhem, is also a Retriever. There are brief references to her and to Mayhem.
(laughs) Power is in big, big trouble.

Baring Grudge – Third Scene Of The First Chapter
We’re getting SO close to the release day for Baring Grudge! Woot!
I’m sharing the third scene from the first chapter this week.
You can read the first scene here:
***
Grudge tilted his head to the side, pondering the dilemma facing him.
He wanted to fly one of the new warships, try out their big guns, shoot robots with Rancor. Energy surged through his circuits merely processing the thrills that would give the two of them.
But he desired to blow up the space station more. It was the size and shape of a fraggin’ moon, might be the closest he’d ever come to blasting a planet to bits.
And it was one of the Humanoid Alliance’s most precious weapons. He folded the purely mechanical fingers on his left hand into a tight fist. Destroying their beloved tool of war would give him some much-desired vengeance.
He couldn’t forgo the opportunity before him.
“I will remain here.” He stepped forward, volunteering for that role.
Silence fell in the docking bay. Everyone gaped at him.
“C Model, what are you processing?” Rancor stared at him also. “We can fly Class A Warships.”
For his flying-obsessed friend, that was a reward without equal.
Grudge had more explosive goals. “I’ll fly a warship during the final transfer.” He met Cadet’s gaze. “I’ll guard the space station while you retrieve more pilots.”
The C Model looked at him. Her lips twisted.
One, two, three heartbeats passed.
Grudge didn’t back down, didn’t withdraw his offer. He had earned the right to blow up the space station, wouldn’t allow anyone else to take that from him.
Cadet finally nodded. “Grudge, I will speak with you. The rest of you load the ships with weapons and prepare to leave.”
“Fraggin’ hole. The decision is made now.” His friend didn’t hide his disappointment. “You’ll miss some fun, warrior.” Rancor bumped against him. “But I’ll shoot robots on your behalf.”
“I’ll jettison more of them while I wait for you to return.” Grudge slapped the male’s back. “I’ll beat your record then.”
“You might surpass my robot kill rate.” The D Model walked with the rest of the warriors. They headed toward the weapons storage chambers, preparing to load the ships with guns. “But you’ll never beat my flying speed record.”
His friend’s laughter drifted behind him.
“Never is a long time, D Model.” Grudge couldn’t resist that bit of bravado. It wasn’t a lie, as fabricating the truth wasn’t possible for their kind. Never was a long time.
It would take him that duration to learn to outfly his friend. That was how outmatched he was.
His gaze shifted back to Cadet.
Their leader didn’t appear pleased by his offer to stay on the space station. Her lips were flat, and her expression was dark. She indicated with a twitch of her head that he should come closer to her.
He obeyed that silent command, striding up to her, his head held high. Cadet might be uncertain of his aptitude for the role he’d volunteered to assume, but he had no doubts. He was meant to remain on the space station, was meant to have the reward of blowing it up.
“Why do you want to stay here?” Cadet lifted her eyebrows. “What are you planning?”
“I want to be the warrior placed in charge of the space station’s demolition.” He didn’t hide his motives. Lying wasn’t an option for his kind, his leader was too perceptive to fool, and he wanted her to consider him for the role. “I’m not leaving the structure until that task is completed. By me.”
He crossed both of his arms, the fully functional right limb and the purely mechanical left, in front of his body armor-clad chest. Weapons decorated the protective garment. He widened his stance, bracing his big boots apart, sending the message he wouldn’t be swayed from his course.
“The space station will be destroyed.” Cadet’s head dipped. “But not before we relocate all the ships. The round trip from here to Mercury Minor and back will take at least thirty-six planet rotations. We will then have to stagger the departures. A large fleet would be detected entering the sector.” She lowered her voice. “It would bring us unwanted attention.”
Power, the self-appointed leader of the Cyborg Council and Cadet’s sworn nemesis, was unaware she was retrieving their brethren left behind during the mass rebellion. The ass wouldn’t approve of the fleet, the weapons, or the warriors she was accumulating.
Frag. There was a 99.9999 percent probability the E Model wouldn’t tolerate him. Grudge flexed the fingers of his left hand. He was permanently damaged, hadn’t warranted a rescue from the male. When he’d called for help through the transmission lines, only Cadet had answered.
Only Cadet had his loyalty. His lips flattened. Power could suck on the butt of a gun.
“You have earned the right to blow up the space station, warrior.” Cadet met his gaze. “Your service over the solar cycles—to your brethren, to our team—has been exemplary.”
Grudge stood straighter. Praise from their leader was rare and hard-earned.
“There is no one I trust more with that task.” Cadet lifted her chin. “It is yours if you desire it.”
“I desire it.” Exhilaration lit up his circuits.
He’d be in charge of obliterating the space station. It would be the largest, the most valued object belonging to the Humanoid Alliance—the enemy— he’d ever destroyed.
“I would never ask you to stay on the space station for the entire duration.” Cadet relieved him of that obligation. “That would lack excitement, and there are many other warriors with more…sedate temperaments.”
He would be bored out of his processors. There was an 85.1287 percent probability that would be the truth.
And the destruction of the space station was no longer tied to guarding it. He could blast robots to bits with Rancor, fly a Class A Warship to Mercury Minor, and oversee the explosion of the imitation moon.
But someone had to assume the guard detail. And he had said he would stay.
