Interview With Christine d’Abo
I sat down (virtually) with Christine d’Abo for a short interview. Christine d’Abo’s upcoming release (available for pre-order NOW) is The Bond That Ties Us, an absolutely yummy SciFi Romance.
I devoured this story. The Bond That Ties Us will definitely make SciFi Romance Readers happy, especially if you love the sexy times and super hot alien males! The entire series is wonderful.
Cynthia Sax: What is super special about The Bond That Ties Us?
Christine d’Abo: There are so many things that makes this book special for me. This was THE book for me, when it came to what being an author meant to me. This was the first one that the whole writing thing clicked. I had a fun idea, strong characters, but I also learned more about craft writing this book than I’d ever had before.
Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for The Bond That Ties Us?
Christine d’Abo: This will sound weird, but I’d gotten this idea from a reoccurring dream I’d been having. I kept seeing a man struggling and a woman knowing that she had to help him. He was a complete stranger to her, but she had this compulsion to help. From that thread the whole idea of the Briel people and their need to mate with only one person, grew.
Cynthia Sax: That doesn’t sound at all weird to me. For me, writing is very much like dreaming. The story comes from my brain but I don’t have any control over it.
Where is The Bond That Ties Us set?
Christine d’Abo: I set this story on a planet named Eurus. I wanted it to be far away from Earth, mostly so the society had to rely on their own people, on the others who will drift in and out of their lives. For me, it provided the opportunity to have a rich playground for these characters where anything could happen. Aliens, monsters, ghosts, anything can happen. But most importantly, these people are able to find love.
Cynthia Sax: I do love the monsters (thinks of Kralj from Dark Thoughts and smiles). What do you love about writing in SciFi Romance?
Christine d’Abo: My first love has always been science fiction. As a kid I watched every sci-fi show or movie I could get my hands on. Doctor Who, Star Trek, Space 1999…all of them. When I eventually found the world of romance and subsequently, romantic sci-fi, I knew I’d finally found my joy. Being able to write these stories, to create new worlds while having my characters also find love, is the best job in the world.
Cynthia Sax: Thank you for joining us today, Christine!

Haylie knows her life is about to change the moment she sets foot on the Eurus colony. What she didn’t count on was her instant, overwhelming sexual desire for the seven-foot-tall, sexy as hell alien ambassador. He’s in her every thought and dream, teasing and taunting her body into a sexual frenzy.
Kamran has waited his whole life to find his bonded mate. When she arrives in the form of a slender human with brilliant eyes, he can’t stop his all-consuming need to possess her. If their bond is discovered, they will be forced by Briel law to leave the colony, giving up the lives they’ve worked so hard to build. While Haylie and Kamran fight their growing desire, their colony is threatened by an unseen enemy.
When the colony comes under attack by a brutal alien force, can Haylie and Kamran keep their bond a secret and stop the invasion in time to save everyone?

Talking Sex With Christine d’Abo And Cynthia Sax
Cynthia Sax: As writers of erotic romance, many readers expect us to be sexperts. Today, we’ll chat about some of the more bizarre and fun aspects of writing in this subgenre. I’ve talked my buddy Christine d’Abo into answering these questions with me… ‘cause I’m tricksy that way.
Christine d’Abo’s latest release is the super delicious 30 Days. 30 days of sex. DIFFERENT sex. We’re not talking just missionary here. Can’t think of 30 different ways to have sex? Then you REALLY need to read this story. Be prepared to cry though. It was a three hanky read for me.
What is…
…the wildest sex scene you’ve written?
Christine d’Abo: Wild? *rubs hands together* There are a few that come to mind. Probably the two most notorious scenes I’ve written both involve food. Shh…don’t be icked out. I know some people are. The first scene is from A Shot in the Dark, and involves a condom filled with frozen peas. The hero has some fun with the heroine and confusing her body with a variety of sensations. The second scene is from 30 Days, and involves a grapefruit. The heroine uses it as an aid while getting down and personal with the hero. Yes there is a YouTube video that inspired the scene. No, I won’t give you the link (though if you type grapefruit and Auntie you should be able to find it!)
Cynthia Sax: Surprisingly I don’t have that many freaky deaky sex scenes (considering I’ve written about mafia bunny shifters). In Love, Hope, and Electricity, one of my post-apocalyptic erotic romances, the hero can manipulate electricity and uses it to… ummm… pleasure the heroine. In Americano Misto, a paranormal short, the hero can turn into mist, which means he can go where no man has ever gone before. (grins) Oh, and in Barb and the Barbarians, there’s one Barb and five, yep, count ‘em, FIVE barbarians.
…the biggest challenge you face while writing sex scenes?
Christine d’Abo: For me it’s trying to determine exactly what character trait is going to be impacted by the scene. Will they find the humor in a sexual mishap, or will they get angry? How will it impact the story going forward? What food item will they need to pull out of the fridge to solve this issue?? These are key things!
Cynthia Sax: Finding another word for thrust. My heroes are always thrusting here and thrusting there. I maintain a database of sex words and phrases. That helps with this problem.
…a (PG-rated) word you’re rather not see in a sex scene?
Christine d’Abo: Moist! It makes me think of a yeast infection. Her moist love tunnel embraced him… gag.
Cynthia Sax: Hearing about a certain female body part ‘weeping’ always makes me giggle, which is NOT the response we want to invoke during a sex scene. Get that vajayjay a tissue, folks. It has had a rough day.
…your go-to prop for sex scenes?
Christine d’Abo: Besides peas and grapefruits?? Umm, I’d have to say a flogger. Apparently, I like to inflict a little pain on these poor characters before I let them be happy.
Cynthia Sax: It isn’t a prop but an editor recently pointed out that I really like biting. Heroes are always marking their heroines with love bites, the pain accentuating the heroine’s pleasure. I think part of my problem is I’m usually hungry when I write sex scenes. That might be why I end up with so many food-related words in my scenes also.
Speaking of food…
…one food or prop you’d recommend readers never mix with sex?
Christine d’Abo: There are limits? *Cynthia leans in and whispers* Oh, yes. Right. Safety! I would say avoid using meat products in your moist love tunnels. Seriously, not healthy. And a waste of a perfectly good meat stick.
Cynthia Sax: NEVER eat spicy food before a romantic evening. I found that out in real life. Spice + Delicate Man Bits = Severe pain. Oh, and the cure for this pain is NOT a Popsicle pressed to the aforementioned man bits. That doesn’t help the situation.
…the craziest kink you’ve ever heard about?
Christine d’Abo: I read an article about some people who get sexually aroused by trees. I’m not entirely sure how that works. Plus nature walks? A veritable orgy!
Cynthia Sax: I thought tentacle sex (sex with an octopus or similar creatures) was the craziest… until today. Today, I read an article about toaster sex. I will never look at small kitchen appliances the same way again.
For years, Alyssa has been going to bed with a memory. Is she ready to wake up with a fantasy?
Some people wait their whole lives to find their soul mate, but not Alyssa Barrow. She met Rob at nineteen, and they were set to live happily ever after—until he became ill. In his final days, Rob urged his beautiful, young wife not to abandon happiness—or pleasure. He even left her a special gift, a sexy game plan to help her move on: Thirty cards with instructions for thirty days of passion. You’ll know when the time is right, he’d said. Now it’s two years later, and when Alyssa meets her hot new neighbor, Harrison Kemp, she begins to think the right time is right now…
From his sculpted thighs to his devilish grin, Harrison is the kind of man women want. Before she can lose her nerve, Alyssa tells Harrison about her long-ignored cards…and asks him to help her fulfill them. It’s a favor he’s more than happy to, um, perform. With his skillful touch, and the hot press of his lips against her skin, Alyssa finds herself re-awakening to life—and a host of other sensations. But what began as not-so-innocent fun soon grows into true intimacy, and Alyssa realizes she’s opening herself up not just to sex…but to love. When it comes to a future with Harrison, what’s really in the cards?
Saucy, heartwarming, and insightful, 30 Days explores the agony—and the ecstasy—of starting over, and how a little encouragement, and a little courage, can go a long way…

Vapor is the most advanced cyborg the Humanoid Alliance has ever developed. He’s a finely honed weapon, a warrior without parallel, half man and half machine. No lock can contain him. No being can stop him. Whatever he wants, he takes.
He wants Mira Breazeal, the Designer’s daughter.
She’s his one temptation, his sexy target. Vapor shouldn’t crave her caresses, steal her kisses, make her scream with ecstasy. The cyborgs want her dead and they would question his loyalty if he didn’t kill her. The humans would shoot him on sight if he dared to touch her.
Their love is forbidden. Their desire could be lethal. One human and one cyborg will risk everything for a moment of passion.

Releasing Rage and Loretta Chase’s Lord Of Scoundrels
Releasing Rage is a SciFi erotic romance and Loretta Chase’s Lord Of Scoundrels is a delightful Regency romance. It doesn’t sound like they have anything in common, right?
Well, Loretta Chase’s wonderful story is my benchmark book. The book I compare my writing to. Many writers have these and I’m talking about it today on Monette Michaels’ blog.
https://romanticimperative.wordpress.com/2015/10/14/muse-wednesday-cynthia-sax/
Here’s a snippet…
I’ve been inspired by a zillion different authors. Barbara Cartland was my first introduction to romance. Christine D’Abo was my first introduction to erotic romance. Laurann Dohner was my first introduction to both SciFi erotic romance and stories with cyborg heroes (which is the niche Releasing Rage falls into).
But there’s one romance novel that I reach for whenever I feel a fit of the lazies, whenever I think ‘this story is tight enough’, and that’s Loretta Chase’s Lord Of Scoundrels.

Half Man. Half Machine. All Hers.
Rage, the Humanoid Alliance’s most primitive cyborg, has two goals—kill all of the humans on his battle station and escape to the Homeland. The warrior has seen the darkness in others and in himself. He believes that’s all he’s been programmed to experience.
Until he meets Joan.
Joan, the battle station’s first female engineer, has one goal—survive long enough to help the big sexy cyborg plotting to kill her. Rage might not trust her but he wants her. She sees the passion in his eyes, the caring in his battle-worn hands, the gruff emotion in his voice.
When Joan survives the unthinkable, Rage’s priorities are tested. Is there enough room in this cyborg’s heart for both love and revenge?

Interview With Christine d’Abo
I sat down (virtually) with Christine d’Abo for a short interview. Christine d’Abo writes hot erotic romances for Carina Press, Ellora’s Cave and a zillion other awesome publishers. She’s a great writer and an even better friend. She’s helped me so many times with my own stories. Her latest release is Sexcapades.
Cynthia Sax: What excites you about Sexcapades?
Christine d’Abo: The Internet provides people with so many different opportunities, not only to learn things, but to reach out and connect with people we wouldn’t normally be able to. Sexcapades is a story that explores what happens when real life collides with the online world, and two people learn that not everything is as simple as they’d like to think.
This story let me mix humor with a touch of mystery, and a whole lot of hot sex. The combination turned out to be a lot of fun and a steamy story.
Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Sexcapades?
Christine d’Abo: This one came about because of some of my own relationships with people online. I’ve made friends worldwide who I wouldn’t have had an opportunity to meet otherwise. I’ve shared rooms with them, meals, have had personal conversations about topics I wouldn’t necessarily share with my family. I wanted to tell a story about a relationship that had its basis in the online world, and explore the challenges they would face when they finally met.
Cynthia Sax: What makes Petra and Darcy right for each other?
Christine d’Abo: I’m a firm believer in the idea that opposites attract. Petra is a series of contradictions—she wants to be the confident sex-goddess she know is buried somewhere inside her, but lacks the experience to make that happen. Darcy deals with real life issues on a daily basis, as a part of his day job. Together (both with their online personas and in their real lives) they provide the balance that they were missing.
Cynthia Sax: Is Sexcapades a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?
Christine d’Abo: Yes I am! Petra’s best friend Alice disappears halfway through Sexcapades. While she loves her best friend, Alice has an adventure of her own happening at the same time. Her story is called Wonderland, and will be out this October from Carina Press.
Thank you, Christine d’Abo, for joining us today!

Petra Clark’s blog Sexcapades inspires women to embrace sexuality. What readers don’t know is that her advice isn’t based on personal experience. Despite erotic fantasies about the hot guy at her local coffee shop, social anxiety keeps Petra from connecting with real men in the real world. She’s more comfortable as PC, sparring online with her nemesis, the cocky D. Williams.
Counselor by day, blogger by night, Darcy Williams gets a thrill countering PC’s female-friendly advice with a macho slant. And when both blogs are nominated for an award, he’s intrigued by the chance to finally meet the woman who’s been driving him wild with her Sexcapades.
When Petra runs into her coffee-shop crush at the awards party, sparks fly–and so do their clothes. Only after multiple orgasms does she realize who Darcy really is: the competition. Now they’re facing accusations of fraud, with stalking and blackmail thrown in. But perhaps most frightening of all are the feelings growing between them…
